- My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after 11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.
I now have a shop space to keep me busy through the winters here on Canada's westcoast. Went from Van Life to VAN LIFE + SHOP LIFE !!!!!! Come join this crazy van life journey of mine. HIT SUBSCRIBE, trust me its gonna be a WILD RIDE.

And you're overlooking one thing when you're sitting in traffic. Your exhaust fumes were going up into that hole too.
Chrome, I'd recommend purchasing the metal sooner rather then later, even if you don't intend to repair for a couple of years. They are available now, but might not be available down the line when you want them. Ford will phase out whatever parts they have left and since they all rot in the same places, you don't want to miss out on buying parts that they probably aren't making anymore
Man you’re 100% right that’s awesome advice.
There are junkyards full of Ford vans with parts!
Rusting
There are metal fabricators who can make the parts
Come on Brother, get that damn handrail installed before someone takes a spill. You don’t need that kind of grief. We love you Guys✌️✌️👍
So glad to see the AC up and running now and the tanks mounted. You are almost out the door! Be safe!
Hey Chrome, this is your subscribers from Indiana, it was great to meet you during our adventures on the island. Thanks for showing us in your video. Oh and my husband is the same way he just can’t drive straight if he see’s a dirt road he has to check it out. 😂 We will be back on the island again for sure. Enjoy your travels.
😂well he did say Indiana Illinois or Iowa lol
@@renee2994 😂😂
Dang Chrome! You can't cut away from or edit out a Cruzy jumping down the stairs scene. My wife and I look forward to that all the time, lol. He is so adorable going down stairs.
So great to see Lauren working on the van being able to stand up! Once you get older the less you have to crawl On the ground the better it is on your body! Thank goodness we don’t have a smellifone!
Ya, am old, been working under my car for a few days, the constant up and down, and all the weird positions, I feel like I got beat up. Lol

Enjoyed the look at the "guts" of the van and the info. For someone who has little to no idea how this stuff even looks like. I liked that part and how happy everyone was for the ac! 😂
Chrome, the Dempster highway really doesn’t have any side roads to explore, it’s straight through to Inuvik. Some of the most incredible scenery in Canada, I’ve done it three times.
There are two types of foam, closed cell and open cell. Closed cell will not absorb water but open cell will. Hope you used closed cell. It should say closed cell on the can.
I’ve enjoyed watching your van come back to life better than it was!
Chrome, I really wish you would wear your safety glasses when you work upside down... remember, without your eye sight, you won't be traveling at all.
💯 it happens. Be careful Chrome.
@@doulacoach6801 thank you!
Sheet metal , rivets and roofing tar will give you a quick fix for that hole until it becomes affordable to have it repaired in a body shop . Worked on my old Econoline for 2 years with having to re tar a couple times and stops the risk of monoxide infiltration which is deadly dangerous. Great travels Chrome & Cruzie
My thought too, he has rivets
Chrome has welding equipment…why not weld sheet metal to cover that area? What he did doesn’t make sense.
Chrome!…you have welding equipment…why not weld sheet metal to cover that hole…what you did doesn’t make much sense.
@@tedmichaels1951..I agree with you 💯%..lately there has been decisions he made that doesn’t make ANY sense, but to each their own 👍👍👍☮️
I learn so much from you Chrome. You rock. Wishing you all the best with your van.
Way to go fixing Cruz’s stairs! :)❤
Remember - not all those who wander are lost - you will LOVE going way up north. Bring a fly cover - stop in Prince Rupert where you can buy prawns right off the boat!
Chrome if you are using a max air fan then you must know that it puts a vacuum inside the van. It is not closed to the outside unless you get the cover that fits inside. The fantastic fan will close to the outside and seal off.
Awesome idea to have a skid plate to protect the fuel line and fuel tank. Last thing you want is a branch or rock damaging hoses or punching holes in things.
Aaww Cruzie got TREATS.😊
And that's the EXACT reason that I'm installing an access hatch in the floor of my van so that I don't ever have to drop the tank, and I can change out the fuel pump by myself. :)
Gotta do what you Gotta do Chrome!
Sometimes the best fix is the one you try. Keep your head ❤up, brother.
I got the exact same steps for my Chiwiennie!
Thanks for the recommendation!!!
HI Crusie
Bro that van belongs in the Vanlife hall of fame and it’s time for a high roof 😃
Chrome, I recharged my a,c in my Jeep today. I'm a 65 yr old lady. You just need to find your low ac port, have a manifold gauge and a can of freon when you are in a pinch or low on funds. Of course the correct way is to discharge a/c then refill just don't overfill.
Chrome!!!!! Fix it now before it gets worse, you guys can weld it cause you know it will get wet up there driving around!!!!! Give cruzie hugs❤❤❤
It never ends dude
Chrome, your van would fail an MOT in the UK we would have to weld up that to drive it on the road in the uk
It definitely won’t hold water bro. It will actually turn solid as a rock. It took you long enough to finally look lol. I’ve been watching since I commented to see if you were finally gonna find it. I don’t know why it’s always the passenger side BUT eventually the other side will need it to. 👍🏽👍🏽
Try putting it in water and see how it soaks up water
Monkey on the holes. Basically Tar roofing bonding material. It sets up and repels water.
Foam will hold water between it and the metal. Buy flat sheet and use bodywork structural compound and glue it in and it will be sealed
Black bedliner spray ontop of spray foam. Love it!!!
spray rock guard or bed liner up there then put fiber glass auto body mess when its tacky and re spray. when dry spray and re mess and spray more. 3 times will stop water.
Bro, please keep in mind that if you leave the transfer switch on from the new to the main tanks it will overflow the filler neck if you forget and leave it on. ~much love ❤
Greeting from Hormigueros Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. I will recomend you to patch the hole with fiberglass cloth and resin, that make the repaired last longer. 👍👍😉
Hey Dude…Just ‘cause you say Ford USA has all the metal, as an American, I personally would hedge any bets thinking that they will have it in a few years when you’re ready to do your work. I’d seriously consider at least stockpiling the metal materials just to be safe…just saying, Bro!
“Ol’ Scooter in East Texas…
You rock Chrome!!
Stickers---arrived and applied!
I loooove it when people fix things....instead of tossing in the trash 👍
Sounds like everything is coming together Chrome
I am happy for you and Cruzie
Good fix on Cruzie Bear's stairs! I like it!!
Travel excitement is in the air!
It's pretty neat how you have custom-tricked your van out over the years.
OIL PREVENTS RUST!
Stainless stucco screen and gooey style JB Weld, my newest, most favorite body repair technique. Comes out strong as a boat hull, will never rot.
i was reading gas knowledge, from some post on FB by a gas trucker... and i felt the need to spread the truth or not, about it, because your will be filling up at a different angle. 1) fill at a low speed 2) do not gas up when tanker is filling. [any sediment in the tanks under the ground, might get mixed in, and into your tank possibly] aaannndddd LOL, there was a third one, however comma...i sirgot what it was?!?
LOL, the biggee.... #1.... because IF the holes are at a different angle, besides a tad better gas mileage...the overflow might be super quick...and smelling like gas is not pleasant! ;-)
Chrome where have you been? No new video lately. Sure miss following your videos, make the day go by when you’re stuck at home recovering surgery?
That view of the fuel pump was great. My rv is on an Econoline chassis and I have never seen the fuel pump but I know they have to drop the tank to replace it. So now I know what is involved! Thank you!!!
Hope you can get out travelling soon.Your dog is so cute!
Awesome chrome I was here watching. I’ll watch for the next one.👋👋👋😎
Cruz needs air conditioning❤ Happy you got the hole fixed.
I would cut some sheet metal to fit rustproof it put a bead of sealer around the edge and rivet it in place that would eliminate the dust and no worries about the foam getting wet
Timmy from Truck House Life has an old Ford pickup. It's always fun to watch him hit the switch and fill up his main tank with the reserve one. 😊
What about trying the spray insulation they use on homes? You spray it on and it fills in the space/cavity. You trim off the excess and it's sealed.
Chrome is such a humble person , is always a pleasure to watch he’s videos .
Love the license plates on the stairs. That looks Great!
The acid in the coting might start to eat into the foam that you filled the hole with. I suggest you get Flex Seal Aerosol Liquid Rubber Sealant Coating, and spray it over the area to prevent water from activating the acid. It's only about $15.00 for a 14oz spray can, at Walmart.
Here in the UK 🇬🇧 we have a mot each year and that would not pass it like that lol 😆
Anytime main tank is down...new Ford OEM pump and filters. Install 2 independent transfer pumps for the extra tanks. one fails, a back up exists.
How much longer before we go traveling? Cant wait for this trip
Hi Pal, great to see you again 👍👍
Paint rock guard paint over the foam. Will last forever that way. 🙂
Or use flex seal spray! That stuff works amazing!
Please check the install procedure for exhaust pipe end for Webasto. Last bit should be pointed down at 10° angle away from vehicle....👍
It was professionally installed.
Air conditioning!!!! Yes you’re going to need it 😅
Hey Chrome! Love the videos! Also if you want clean off that spray foam, use carb cleaner ot Gum out.
All the best to everyone.
I'm surprised the extra fuel tanks are legal. All I can think of is Ford Pinto!
Yes , me too!😮
It will not hold water. That's a popular super cheap and cheesey rust hole repair material here in the rust belt. Cover it with body filler, sand as smooth as you like, adding filler to maintain a nice covering. Spray some rubberized undercoating and it looks legit.
Is that you exhaust pipe end? You also have exhaust right there going into that hole. Seal it up or move the exhaust pipe.
😊 Chrome 😮😅
Love the braided hoses 💪
Freemasonic flashing.
Why is Loren outside on the ground when you have that badass shop use it
The van came off the lift, then Lauren was underneath, and then it was back on the lift. It looks like Lauren wanted to just have a quick look and then they changed plans.
Time to do a new build that van is rusting out
hay we havea 2000 and a 2001 f 150 and a f350 and when we fill up the gas gage will not regester till we shut off the key and re start the truck so if you are filling on the fly will you know when you are full so u dont over fill . if yours woeks the same
You could of edited that last part out danny😂😂 I think Veronica... I mean kandy has reached breaking 👉 point😂. Forget Bob Jane your now the tire doctor 😂.
YES..! double strap.
cause we just know Chrome is gonna be utilising those stairs too.
and speaking of stairs..
didn';t you buy a handrail to put on them..?
such a quick little project...
but so necessary.
pay someone if you can't find the time.
it's that important.
that is some hole.
but the fix looks great.
you've had a heck of a year Chrome..
and startups are a killer.
but you're almost done.
always darkest before the dawn.. ;o)
It’s like you’re taking a shopping cart on the Tour de France 😂
❤❤❤❤ CHROME ... when you're knocking on your van --- showing the difference in sound where the foam is --- your thumping totally sounded like Neil Peart
( beloved Drummer of RUSH --- )
😊 ... check it out and listen, lol 😁✌️
Vid time point 11:53
Is it time to go full ham on the 7.3 shop van this winter? Or a donor body for a body swap?
your just puting a band aid on it fix it right
I'm so happy for you ❤
Lower tire pressure … lower speed
Love you sweetie ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That floor would be ideal in a showroom but it's not really practical in a workshop.
Can’t you spray some Flex Seal over that spray foam for a tight seal?
What to you mean you don’t know where your going yet. Head to the US to San Clemente Ca. Beautiful beach town paradise and have a beer 🍺 or 3 🍻 here.
Omg... Did yo not see the big hole to the left of the big hole that you filled? Jeez... In th euk that van wouldn't be allowed on the road
Oh dear, I see a new van before the year is out 😢
Morning fellas 🇺🇸
Morning my friend!
❤❤❤❤
What about the dog house? Did you reinforce that too? Remember all that dust that was coming in .
Wish I could go. ✌️
why don't you guys use Fluid Film to stop rust from even happening or stop it from getting worse? Cavety protection is key to have these vehicles survive. Please use it :D
Band-aid for the band-aid. 👍
Dude we in the Lower 48 use to water proof all sorts of stuff. Just rust proof all the metal around it.
Not really Chrome . That's a L bracket. It's holding the vertical piece to the horizontal piece. But it's easier just rivet another strap next to it.
I trying to find the reasoning on the continue bandaid fixes over just replacing the van, or at least the body.
That’s why I voted to get a new van
Cruzy is adorable! Hope you enjoy where you are and the journey. I love the shop content :) I have found such peace not feeling I always have to go someplace and chase things but that's me :) Simple.
Hey Chrome, how about epoxy and glass mat on top of the foamed hole?
Running the back tanks low or empty will cause water in the tank from condensation all ways keep the tanks full
