I wish they introduced zinogre in iceborne the way they introduced it in portable 3. Imagine this, you visit the guiding lands at night just to see a bug that at first glance seems like your typical flash bug or thunder bug, until you do a double take and realise thousands of bugs travelling in one direction. Suddenly, Rathalos intercepted this moment and starts chasing you and you, being a skilled hunter, dodged his attack only to land right beside zinogre. Zinogre walks past you, with a glance of pity(towards you)/arrogance and charges straight towards the rathalos and proceeds to absolutely smash him. And the entire time, the only light source you have are light from the stars, the fulgurbugs and rathalos’ flame

Love seeing all these scenes again. Now that I've seen them, I have to agree, 4 Ultimate has to be a favorite. Likely for the same reason. 4 Ultimate, even though it has a little liberty with cinematic camera angles and CG rendering, shows pretty much exactly the stuff you do or encounter, during a hunt, with very little embellishment. You see them perform moves and duties looking almost exactly as you would while playing, just prettied up a little. Even the way some monsters just show up, interrupting in the middle of the fight, and where.
I have to give it credit for that, because it basically does something different than many CG intros in games don't do. Make exactly what you do look awesome instead of making something that looks awesome but it isn't exactly what you do. Extra points for actually showing the Charge Blade in action. Now that I think of it, I don't remember if we ever got a classic cinematic featuring the Switch Axe in action. (as a side note, Freedom was where I got my start, but I didn't really click until Freedom 2.)
If you were able to remove Plesioth from the game, you do realize that the hip check will still remain. That thing defies time and space, so it could be a double edged sword given at least with Plessy, you'll have some visible semblance of where that hip check came from.

@25:11 - Ah, there's my nostalgia trip. (MH4U first game)
One of my favorite details in the MH4U cinematics is that after completing the low-rank story, after the credits roll you have a short concluding cinematic showing a group of hunters setting off from the Gathering Hall -- namely, the same hunters seen in the opening cinematic(s). AND THEN after completing the high-rank story, after those credits roll you get a concluding cinematic showing the same hunters returning to the Gathering Hall in utter defeat. Gore Magala and Seregios certainly do not mess around!

I started with freedom unite. It's interesting that me and my friends played it so much that it really "united" us all with friendship that lasts 'till today. I almost can't choose a favorite intro, since I love every single one since freedom unite and really appreciate the ones that came before. Although, seeing them all back to back, the ones that still touch me the most with their awesomeness are: 4 Ultimate Charge Blade, Generations Ultimate and Freedom Unite, respectively. Seeing Valstrax in the intro still gives me goosebumps.

I'll always love Tri's intro because it was my first MH, but I really love the first intro because those first three minutes really tell you everything about their vision for the game. They don't show you hunters or any big monster, they show you a herd of Aptonoth going to find a drink, and then you see the Velociprey coming in for an ambush, and then Rathalos claiming the kill. It all serves to provide this vision of the food chain in this world, and its ecology, which is exactly what's always been at the heart of Monster Hunter; presenting this natural world with incredible creatures, and how they all fit into nature, which is also a lot of what Tri's intro does as well. The other intros all have things they do that are awesome, and also show what the developers envisioned the game could be, but for me those two really show what the series is all about.

I remember playing the original Monster hunter on my PS2 when I was 10 years of age... And I SUCKED at it, it was so hard playing with the analog stick, getting items, crafting weapons...
Then my next game was Monster hunter freedom 2 on the PSP, played the heck out of that game with my friends, we had this "ritual" on friday, thay all came to my house to play the game on ad-hoc, and the we would go get dinner to a local restaurant.
Then just out of curiosity, when I already played Freedom 2 (and maybe Unite, I don't remember) I completed the original game (hammer for life) on my still working PS2 when I was like, 17, it was so fun, and I was suprised of all the monster that I didn't know are ALREADY on the first original Monster hunter, because when I played it at 10, I was just able to make it to yian-kut ku or so.
    Oh man, the memories

I can still remember running away from Rathalos back then when I was a 6th grader playing monster hunter freedom. I was doing that quest where you're ask to deliver a wyvern egg and there's that damn rathalos which also happens to be on the same area where you could obtain the egg (Area 5 forest and hills). Everytime I can get my hands on an egg my hands would shake as I run away from that mean wyvern. This game really felt real as I first played it. This game was my childhood and was playing all psp and 3ds series. The only game that never made me bored after a month or two.

Been in it since 2004. Was playing a japanese imported copy from thailand of MH1 on my pal PS2 with network adapter (which was very rare and hard to get by that time). It was released as PAL version about 1 year later and I switched to it and could suddenly read the text woop!
By that time though the game was about 10 times harder and there were no wikis around, so killing stuff took a VERY long time.
Back then Longswords as a category did not exist, they where actually a part of the Greatsword tree.
But I'v been in love with this series from the start and own original copy of all the games, including limited editions, books and loads of extra merch :D
There's many things i miss in World, like insect, crab and ape type monsters. There's sooo much content they could bring into world, especially from the MH Frontier series.
One of the coolest ones imo is Chameleos. Fighting something you can't see was always very mystical.

i started with the MHFU and watching the cutscenes from there reminded me of how I started out as an old world hunter and then transitioning into the new world creating my character there purposefully giving them a face scar to make me feel like yeah, i've tangled with a lot of this monsters and i have scars to prove it. its amazing how long we have come so far. and that monster hunter theme, never fails to give me goosebumps.
