If only they were able to put micro SD cards in phones it would be a game changer 😂
Yeah! Maybe one day..... again...
But then how would they sell us cloud storage?
ProRes is 60GB/per/min, and SD cards cannot cope with that, so they would be useless. The best SD cards are about 6GB/per/min, so they are 10X too slow. That is why premium phones ditched them, as they are only useful for storage, not for practical workflows like recording video.
@@andyH_England Premium phones dropped SD cards and headphones aux port to upsale you on storage and headphones. I'm no expert on pro res but was able to find videos of people using SD card adapters to their phones to record.
@@julioca918 OEMs rightly believe that pro camera users paying $1400 for the best camera phones can afford to buy 1TB storage. I agree that cheaper phones could have an SD card reader but not a flagship, as they have the fastest storage, and SD cards are just too slow now compared to UFS 4.0.
Keep up the great work
Can't wait for your updated rig video. Although i would love to see you use a dji pocket 3, as that seems more coherent
I appreciate how in-depth this review was. It answered every question I had regarding the enclosure. I now wonder if this will work well with the SmallRig case for the iPhone 15 Pro...
WoW that's a Nice PCB.
A magsafe popsocket would be a good grip for holding the phone if there is no cage or other option. Nice review and exactly what I need for a trip in a few months. Thanks Lon
I like it, I bought it for my rog Ally, and it becomes hot when it is charged through it, so I bought a magnetic fan and it did the job 🤩
🙌🏾🙏🏾Awesome video! Maybe time to 3d print a cage/mount to make the rig a bit more like a box cam platform. Very interesting the possibilities
It works with my Hikvision DK4000 2TB SSD.
I am ordering it
I have a pixel with a Quadlock case that has the magsafe feature. But I am dubious about that custom cable since it seems custom made for an iPhone and who knows if it fits on something else.
Will this attach to Qi2 compatible Androids? Lots of those are expected to come out in the next few years.
I wonder if this would work with a non-USB-C iPhone like the 12 pro max
Do you by any chance know what is s24 ultra maximum power output?
A combined slimline hub / battery bank with passthrough / SSD would make sense as another option...
It would be good if they add a fan for cooling
This works very well with 2TB nvme
which one you get?
Needs USB passthrough to be used for external mic and for external power charger!
Pro tip: If you're recording in hot weather: attatch a peltier phone cooler on the nvme enclosure. Either a cheap generic or a fancy magsafe cooler.
That's a really good idea - I reviewed one of those recently in one of my Amazon hauls
Nice unit. I didn’t know about this capability. That said, I would prefer this to be a phone case integration. I realize that’s a tall order given the many phones out there. But a deal breaker for me is using a phone without a protective cover. It’s better insurance than insurance.
There are magsafe compatible cases that this would work with. But do agree a case with integrated ssd could be useful especially as it could accommodate a usb hub too
if worse comes to worse they sell magsafe magnetic rings that work with this type of thing(you would need one for most android phones). you could attach one of those rings to the outside of a case.
What MagSafe wallet is that?
So these should include a small internal battery...
So much easier if Apple got with the modern times and added an SD Card slot.
sd are to slow.
I love mSD slots, but I wouldn’t call their presence “modern,” in that most high end phone devices don’t include them anymore.
In addition to overcharging for built-in storage, I think that Apple also has a philosophical objection to them which is that they use do make using a device more complicated than they want for their average consumer.
Even though I am locked into iPhone for a few apps that are exclusive to it, I also buy (horde? 😅) used galaxy and LG phones precisely to have reliable devices with SD cards,so I understand your desire for them.

Tim Cook will have an update by the end of the week to kill any external SSD.
Why is Lon over enunciating NVME SSD 😂
