- This is the short version of my longer video about sharing projects / files between collaborators. I don't explain much of the why in this video, so if you'd like more explanation, check out the long video at • Reaper Tutorials | Sha...

This is what a perfect YT tutorial looks like. Thank you
Dang, thanks so much :) I'm flattered
Super helpful! I've owned reaper for years now and I haven't done this yet. Simple and powerful.
Good to hear! Yeah it's a night and day difference now that all my projects are organized into individual folders :)
Eyy bro how can I send my record song to my phone or my Gmail can you do a video
Yeah that would be a good video! I’m always doing that to try to car test my songs. Thanks for the idea.
So helpful! I went into this knowing what felt like nothing and ended with fully usable files to send to someone who does know how to use them! Haha thank you! 😀
Eyyy I’m glad this was helpful! May your audio projects be much less frustrating from this point forward :)
Thank You! just got a new computer and am using this to migrate all my songs-in-progress to my new machine :)
Nice! Glad you're able to migrate them all over, and congratulations on the new machine!
Thank you I was struggling for hours
It’s definitely not intuitive the first time you do it. Glad I could help you out!
If I follow the first process of sharing the project folder and send it to my friend is he going to hear the plugins im using even though he doesnt have them?
They wouldn’t hear the plugins if you go through this process, BUT you can use track freezing to basically render each track in place with all the plugins so you could send it to your friend with those plugins applied, but this would also allow you to “unfreeze” and get the plugins back if you needed to tweak the mix further.
I can’t remember the exact menu options, but if you search for “Reaper Freeze Tracks” you should find some help!
Thank you so much this was very helpful.
Of course! Happy to help you along and get you collaborating with others :)
Thank you very much! Very helpful.
Where is the projects folder?
Sorry for the delay, your project folder will be automatically generated when you save your project with “Create Subdirectory for Project” selected.
So it will be wherever you saved the project (1:30 in the video)
Perfect! Thanks for the help!
Bravo, many thanks!!!
I am trying to send my recording project from reaper to Cakewalk so the bass tracks can get recorded, I consolidated the tracks but they are playing slow on their cakewalk software when they upload them. Not sure what i am doing wrong?
It could be that the tracks got exported with Reaper’s tempo embedded, so if the Cakewalk session is assuming that the tracks are 120bpm, but Reaper says they’re 144bpm, they’ll stretch a bit to line up.
I know you can disable “embed project tempo” when exporting, but you might also check if Cakewalk has a way of ignoring a clip’s tempo.
Let me know if that’s not the issue!
@@ReaperTutorials ok thx for getting back to me, i will let them know and give it a try again myself asap.
I followed these steps to upload into my bands Dropbox. However now I cannot retrieve it back in Reaper without it "missing files" all the stems are labeled "Offline" Even when my drummer opened the files he was missing one of the way files. Help!
Hmmm wish you could upload screenshots to RUclips. Can you confirm that you shared a folder, and inside that folder is a reaper project file and an “Audio Files” folder?
Also if you had to Zip the folder to share it to Dropbox, you’ll have to unzip or extract the files before you can use them like normal.
And last thing, if they are showing up as missing, you should be able to point Reaper to the location of one of them and it will find the rest in there.
I’m kind of just swinging in the dark as to what the problem might have been, but it might be one of these. If not, let me know and I can come up with some more things to try.
Might be worth watching the long version of this video, too. I skim over a lot of the “why” in this shorter version that might help you troubleshoot your problem.
Hope you can get it solved!
I’ll watch the other video. I tried to select 2 tracks, they became “inset” like yours, but only 1 showed up In my finished render. Also I need to learn what Wildcard means. But THANK YOU! This is exactly what I’ve been vexed by lately.
Likely quick solution: Make sure your tracks don't have the same name, make sure you've got a wildcard that will make a different name when rendering, or check the box next to 'Silently increment filenames to avoid overwriting near the bottom left of the render window!
------
Longer explanation:
The wildcard is really just going to dynamically change depending on the track. So in the video, the tracks are sitting inside a 'Parent' folder called 'BSN_WET', when I use the '$parent' wildcard, it replaces '$parent' with 'BSN_WET' when creating the new tracks.
I wonder if the issue you're having is that your filenames ended up being the same.
Let's say we have two tracks named 'BSN'. They are sitting inside a folder track called 'TRACKING' if we highlighted both of those, then tried to render using the 'Stems (selected tracks) option as your source.
If you used the $parent wildcard like i did, then what the computer would try to render like this:
Write TRACKING_BSN...
Finished!
Write TRACKING_BSN...
It already exists, overwriting TRACKING_BSN...
Finished!
That's my guess, anyway!
Perfect. Thank you.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching
My reaper is giving an error that I've done everything even formatted and it didn't solve! The error is: import file into project, is an external folder that is appearing making it impossible for me to work has anyone gone through this? help me I'm desperate.
Hmmm I’m still not clear on the error. When importing a file into a project, what does the error message say?
Here’s an article from ReaperBlog: reaperblog.net/2015/10/how-to-fix-a-broken-reaper-project/
But this could be completely unrelated - just wanted to give you something as a complete guess until I know what the error is!
Lifesaver
hi man . great video but, how to do with video files( mp4) it says error copying
Hmmm I’m not sure what the problem is - is the “error copying” coming from Reaper or from your operating system? And are you Windows/Mac/Linux?
why my session turn into one track only
You may have exported the Master Mix instead of stems, or you could have accidentally selected only 1 track. Hard to tell unless I see it, but those are my guesses.
How do I do this on Mac? Hoping I’m missing something obvious here, but can’t seem to figure it out.
What part are you stuck on? The process will be the same on Mac, but I might use shortcuts and stuff that are different.
Thank you!!!!
basoon wet? what do you mean by that?
Good question, when I say 'wet' I mean the effects are active, compare that to 'dry' where all the effects are turned off.
@@ReaperTutorials thx!
Hi - Thanks for this. I have a new laptop and am simply trying to copy across all my reaper files. But have error messages e.g. request failed due to fatal device hardware error. Any ideas please?
Is that error message coming from Reaper or from your operating system? And are you using Windows/Mac/Linux?
It may be that there’s a corrupted project file, but it’s really hard to tell from your comment alone. I’d try to move things one at a time instead of all at once.
Too vague and fast. Having a hard time fallowing you.
I have a longer version where I go into more detail, maybe that’s helpful? ruclips.net/video/ZCqjbtgiU1Q/видео.html
