We need a Wong/Mayer collab album!!
that would be great
No
2 modern day strat masters comparing notes...superb!
Oh my god these guys are both unbelievable. I cannot believe we live in a world where they both do their thing and we get to watch for free.
SOB "FUNK" is coming soon. It will be awesome!!!
WE NEED VIDEO OF THIS!
No way! I join the cult of fans who bow down to his brilliance. I need a few houes to prepare listening to this. Thanks Cory and PG! Love from Duluth, MN
He is so right. Everyone should focus on trying to find their own thing even if you are trying to channel your influences
We need a Cory Wong and John Mayer song
Sooo… this is how PURE GOLD sounds like.
I don't know about everyone else, but I think I could have a 7 year long Mayer/Wong Podcast and kind of forget it was that long.
Starting from 0:54 is groovy asf
I loved this episode so much! From the conversations to the jam session/exchange towards the end, such a great listen!
Setting the bridge to where it has just a slight give like John said just a millimeter gives it that softer feel, you can get easier up and down vibrato. It makes the guitar easier to play and not as stiff as a bridge secured tight to the body. Too loose and it will take forever to tune. Just a tiny slight rise off the body gives a strat a certain je ne sais quoi about it and trust me guys, the ladies love it. LOL 😂
I'm wondering how it works in detail. John said slightest amount of give in the spring. How to do what in the springs? Or should I just set the 6 point screws properly on the bridge? My strat got 5 Raw Vintage springs backside.
@@vaoro Turn your guitar over, back off and loosen the screws in the claw that is attached to the body ever so slightly, a little bit at a time until the bridge lifts up. Look on RUclips for how to set up your strat, Stew Mac has videos and a lot of other luthiers have posted videos on how to set up a strat. If you are not fully sure you can set it up then take it to your local luthier or ship it to one that can perform the task. You can do this Jay, the thing that messes up a guitar the worst is when someone starts adjusting the truss rod and they don’t have the tools or knowledge to set that correctly. Watch the videos. Good luck. 👍🎸🙏😎✌️
The real trick is turning the claw screws all the way in and tilting the neck and raise the saddles.
How old is this?? I’m telling you right now, John Mayer leaves his record label and now he’s gonna be doing more indie gigs. Collab shows with Cory wong? snarky puppy?? Jacob Collier??? Dude, endless combinations of good music. I’m excited
There's nothing stopping him doing gigs like that already
John Mayer on wong notes? Never clicked on something so fast
Wow. What a great piece of insight.
John: "If I sing like that, it won't sound like me."
The curse of developing a signature sound...expectations from the audience and producers is too great to overcome.
Going to see John April 23 ! Can’t wait!!! My 29th birthday ✨🥲
How was the show?
Hey bro, I dig the way you spell your name. Thanks for putting this together! Pretty legendary stuff man
Man is there no video of this?
Yasssss.
That's some good advice from Mayer.
the podcast servers are gonna be cooking today 🙌🎸🎶
Thank you for this!🤘🤘🤘
I wonder how long John has been waiting to slip the word “sinewy” into a conversation. 😅
I thought the same thing…and quite frankly, he probably didn’t wait too long lol
@@andrewperederiy2119 hahahaha exactly 😂
dude his lexicon scares me. his interviews he's always popping off on the vocabulary lessons lol
listening to the rest on Spotify....yeah John Mayer is amazing, so are you Cory. I didn't like Vulfpecks style of clean funk at first and I still have no need to re-visit it yet, but I will soon thanks to your addictively awesome playing on your rig rundown shows you to be the most awesome player, with attention to detail. your confidence is your power, everything you say you prove, you don't flog your log unnecessarily. I have a Silver Sky,not because of John, but because it sounded like the perfect strat for me, and it is. You both rock like son's of bitches (metaphorically hehe)
I’m with ya… check super secret band for some sweet jams
Cory didn’t mention he’s left handed but plays guitar right handed! Probably doesn’t matter but might add to their convo here.
Same here! When I was in middle school, my mom had a right-handed acoustic guitar, and I wanted to learn, haha. (She eventually gave me that guitar.)
He is??? I had no idea that’s so impressive
@@Benry1 eh I think it makes it tiny bit harder to learn at the very very start but after that it’s probably the same
I'm in the same boat. I write left handed, and eat left handed, but play guitar right handed. The weird thing is I throw and bat right handed, so I believe I'm just naturally ambidextrous.
@@user-of9ut1hd9q check out Doyle Bramhall Jr. Right handed and plays lefty upsidown. Eric Gales also. Also drummers that are like this are Billy Cobham, Carter Beauford, and Simon Phillips
Omg I hope y'all got this in video too!!
Would have loved to see this in video form 😔
Is there a video to with this 🙏🙏
Omg i thiught was recently, JM meeds to release some of these unreleased
JOHN ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Master class 💖✨✨✨
John Mayer is anatomical
Popcorn poppin'! 🤘
Super insightful too. The anatomy part plus the setup stuff is really fantastic, thanks everyone.
2 guitar souls meet in the night...
When is the release date?
3:55 can anyone figure out how his playing that?
Check out pride and joy SRV
@@mr.brownstone9943 what you mean it doesn't sound similar in terms of the high notes
pride and joy is the same picking technique. If you can play that song, then you could play what John did at this time marker
@@TJHooper123 yes obviously but i mean the notation not the picking
@@kelvinzhou then maybe a better way to frame your question would be, “does anyone have tabs for what John plays at 3:55?”
Cory has Steve Vai hands.
lol
Why isn't there video, aren't they in the same room?
This must be why john was playing coreys guitar
Rad.
Wongly sh*t!
wow, if you listen to the whole podcast, it's kinda weird on how John perceives his acceptance based on hits, opinions, tiktok, instagram. Cory is so much more fresh and just doing it and having fun.
Is there no video to this?? Really?
Cooo
I smack=attack. Duh
so beautiful hearing Cory shitting all over Mayer! musically and intellectually.
When John Mayer use the slap technique for rhythm imo is a cheap way to keep timing and it's definitely a bad habit to get into
nothing is a bad habit with music. It's called creating! To say something is bad is closing off a door to greatness. You just don't like that sound maybe and that's fine too. No need for you to learn it then and no worries :)
Lmao this dude
Bruh the arrogance of this guy
Apparently Bob Weir, B.B King, Eric Clapton, and countless others disagree with your opinion. Because his sense of rhythm and timing are quite incredible.
@@therealmichaelmeyers Clapton, BB King, Fools. All of them. Ain't got nothin on Swaggy.
Smack aka sloppy. Different stokes for different folks i guess.
It’s called swing unless it is sloppy
🤣
Cosmic slop
Jimmy page was loose with things but it gave swing and feeling
All the “schooled” cats love my tone and feel
And I can def get too loose at times but that’s the sweet spot for me
In the examples he plays, it's just rakes and the gutural sound of another string "just" sounding a bit and interacting with the main note. In other words, nothing about timing. It's actually something you have to work on to play certain genres.
Wut
