- This is all of my work so far at Animation Mentor. If you ever wonder why my lecture videos don't come out more often, this reel may provide a clue.
I've given up trying to get RUclips to stop dropping frames on me. If there's some magic trick to it, I sure can't figure it out. Frustrating. Anyway, five classes down, one to go!
That "cant touch this" animation was awesome. All animations were really professional but this one in particular was really good.
I've been watching a lot of extra credits and I gotta say your video of Punch Out and this demo reel inspire me a lot to become an animator. Do you have any other demo reels from more recent years? I'd love to see them.
Thanks for being an inspiration and good luck with your videos!
Isaac Bautista I'm glad you've enjoyed them! My most recent reel is from a few years ago, but here you go! vimeo.com/76973375
+Daniel Floyd I forgot to reply sorry, it is pretty awesome!
I hear you're now working on game animation. I always thought I would go for game animation but when I first graduated a teacher of mine offered me a job in the film industry. I've been working there for a few months now and I've learned SO much, animation is so magical to me in a way.
So anyway I wanted to ask you, do you ever miss film animation? Which do you prefer and why?
Holy smokes, how long have those been around!? I'd drive my tires over a bed of rusty nails just to see them!
Holy crap, Dan's pretty good, that solider one was my favourite.
The dialogue line is from a movie called Accepted. I just pulled the audio and made it into an animated scene.
For whatever reason, Justin Long's voice is very fun to animate to.
loving the psychonauts music. also, you are a truly talented animator.
The first time I saw this, before I took any animation classes at all, I just thought "eh, it's pretty good".
After I had an animation class of my own trying to learn how to animate basic movements, I see this and think: HOLY FUCKING SHIT! THESE ARE AMAZING!
I guess it's no surprise you're working for Pixar.
It actually is him. It's from the movie Accepted. Maybe not a fantastic film, but I enjoyed it.
Damn man, you have talent! Hoping to see whatever games you get involved with later on!
Your animations are GREAT!! You are very talented, and I love your lecture videos too!
Awesome animations! I can't help myself but watch the first three bits over and over again :D
I always wondered who did the "can't touch this" from the AM showreel. Well done man! It's awesome that you're a great animator, and have such great thoughts about Video games and our world.
Keep it up!
@cursedsound1 It's actually less expensive than most animation schools and has one of the best reputations in the industry. Worth every penny. :)
wow that is really awesome ^_^. My brother has taken animation classes. I remember every time I saw him he was out at the studio working on projects. The workload for those classes are huge. Anyways, good luck in your next class!
Thank you for getting that LBP song stuck in my head.....
Great work Daniel!
I see Dan likes the LBP soundtrack
I love the armless dude dancing to "Can't Touch This."
I'll get to work on another during the break. I've had zero time in the last two months for ANYTHING and it has sucked.
No wonder you were hired by Pixar. That reel is fantastic!
Yeah, only my Animation Mentor assignments. I've also got reels with my work from SCAD (decent) and the shots I had made before that (horrible).
Looks great, Really cant wait to see more.
Hi! I was actually wondering if I should or shouldn't try Animation Mentor and after seeing your work I think I totally should give it a try!
Pocs Pocs I recommend it! Fantastic program.
You've come really far Daniel!
2.05 Brilliant!
That I have. Probably the most frequently used console in the house these days.
You need to make more videos...of all types. I like you.
He does extra credits now in case you didn't know.
Coming along nicely man, nice work.
Awesome work, Dan! ...Can I call you that?
Seriously, though, it takes some talent to turn a bunch of pixels into something that looks so smooth, real, and believable (and hilarious). I'd love to be somewhere near that level of animating talent and skill some day.
Wow, this is really good! Keep up the good work.
Pixar Canada is lucky to have you Floyd.
Oh my glob, this is incredible! You're really talented, you know? I know you're probably done with the course but please never stop :)
It was all animated and rendered in Maya (an industry standard) with characters/rigs provided by the school.
I know who I hire when I finally get enough money together to create that game studio of mine :-)
AWESOME work.
I'll probably render them later. I'm just too burned out from animating them right now.
I loved the bit with the guy at the phone.
very nice work, specially the new ones.
It drives me mad how many frames get dropped when I upload to youtube. I feel like I must be doing something wrong.
This is /SO/ much fun to watch it, even tho it's random - I'd buy the DVD xDD
keep it up just like that :)
Love it, especially the LBP music :P keep up the good work, from a future animator :P
i mean... those animations are REALLY nice but...
when do we get another discussion video about video games? i loved that so much! :D
These are excellent, but when are you going to do another "Talking about these"?
You sir, have a future in this!
Wow, really cool work, Daniel :D
Really cool! The voice of the guy in the first video sounds a lot like Justin Long.
His dancing scene was in 2009 summer Animation Mentor Student Showcase!
watch?v=nDK3i10xuTI
Oh my god, wasn't expecting the Psychonauts music.
Wow, nice work Daniel, looks awesome. If you don't mind me asking, was the animation done with a dedicated editing program or did you have to render the graphics from scratch?
Ive been looking into animation, I currently use 3DSmax but I herd maya is better for it, i am unable to get used to the change. I looked into animator mentor but those classes are way to expensive for me no matter how much i want to do it :/
I hear ya. At least you got some sweet animations done! :)
I THINK it's called Cornman. It's from LittleBigPlanet.
Solid body mechanics, mate ! Hope I do as good at my body mechanics classes at AM. Btw I think the MC Hammer Shot was on the Student Showreel a while back , right ?
Looks good!
I enjoy these :)
dude... you is good
well wat will the next lecture be about?
o and this is a great video!
Like the Arsenic and old lace
Mr Floyd, you must of been a huge fan of LittleBIGPlanet when compiling this video, considering every song in it is in LBP
Im sure u will become great in the art
Nice work!
This is incredibly entertaining. Is the audio from that second clip from a Marx Brother's movie?
YOU were in ANIMATION MENTOR!??!
omg dude you're everything i'm trying to be!!
game researcher and a 3D animator?? tell me you're trying to be a video game designer as well.
I also heard u've been in SCAD??
Cool, Can I add you? I've seen some of you're videos, much respect for you mate, would love to play with you sometime
dan, i would recommend you to post a video in the channel daniel floyd saying that you moved to extra credits/penny arcade tv
because people are still confused
sweet seems a lot better - keep working man :D
Oh man that psychonauts music.
Why didn't you render the first 3 ones? awsome btw
You noticed too? :D gotta love psychonauts ^.^
i like the first two alot because the animation reminded me of toy story
Lol this is some great work :D>. Whats the second part from? where he is on the phone.
The dream of my life...
what's the song at 1:40 called again? btw very good job, love the expresions you manage you create
2:08 - Devastation
2:10 - Excitement
2:11 - Haters Gonna Hate
seriously, 3 people somehow hit the dislike button, WTF, SERIOUSLY W T F!?!?!?!
Daniel Floyd deserves his respect, as indeed so many others agree ^__^
Yes he does, how making those videos stops him from having this job? It's not exclusive...
@kirithem Isn't the Boot Camp music pulled from Psychonauts?
I've graduated one college so far, and I got rudimentary training in 3D animation. Would you recommend Animation Mentor?
@kirithem Huh, well I guess if I become more interested I will check it out a bit more, until then, its to expensive for a hobby. (I am humbled I even got a response from you, keep up the good work!)
have you been to that site!?! Its so incredibly expensive!!!
@Farvei it's from Oleanders basic braining.
I remember this song from lbp!
It's been Maya all the way for me.
Still like the LBP music. We should play sometimes...... I have a mic....
Hey, what 3d software do you use? I'm trained in 3ds Max, and the one you're using looks a bit more user friendly than Max.
Why arnt back in extra credits
Was this all frame by frame, or was it manipulating tweening between frames? Just trying to teach myself what's the best methods so I can teach myself is all ^_^
yay
...? they moved like 2 years ago bro.
Say Daniel, is this all your work ? If so, are you planning to be a full time animator or so ?
First thing is from a movie, right? If it is, what movie?
Hi Dan,
I was wondering, would you recommend animation mentor over a school like Ringling, UT Austin or U South Florida?
Thanks!
Pixar Canada right?
good job :)
good stuff
Anyone know the source for the 2nd clip?
very cool
LittleBigPlanet music :)
Daniel, you got a 360 mate?
very nice :)
very nice
1:17 OH YEAH
What frame rate is this uploaded at? RUclips does everything it can to clamp at 30fps and maintain timing. It drops frames, merges em together, doubles them, it's bullshit.
