Yup. I remember those days. I used to live next door to a fire fighting new recruit training facility where the new recruits would undergo their physical training tests. We used to watch on the sidelines as MEN carried life-sized human dummies up and down cement fire towers, pulled line hose, etc. Those tests were tough! I used to fight forest fires myself back in the day. THE most physically demanding work I've ever done, hands down. Just the trekking up and down mountains with fire gear was exhausting enough. There's no way in hell this little girl would/will provide any significant assistance to fighting these fires, except to maybe dig fire trail and set up water pumps. This news piece just throws more light on how ridiculous this entire LA wildfire situation really is.
Yeah my training required a mile under 8 minutes in street cloths but the. run up 9 stories in full turnouts, hoisting up a 150 ft hose on a rope, run back down the stairs to pull 2 150ft hose from the engine truck, charge hooking it by myself to a hydrant charging them the. Running them 100ft, hitting a tire with a sledge hammer 100 times then doing a 200lbs dead weight dummy drag/ carry for 40. I got the third fastest time in my class. The firefighters had to remove my helmet and turnout coat because I nearly passed out.

Wow! You people unbelievable. You know nothing about this person or the Fire Department they work for. I work with her and know her personally. Now before you come at me, I work as a Nurse and volunteer with her at our Fire department. Now, I’m not a fire fighter. I work on the ambulance. The reason being that i did not want to go through the difficult and demanding fire academy. This woman does both. She was required to do EVERYTHING the men did, and pass EVERY test they had to pass, and meet EVERY requirement they had to meet. She had to fight for her spot. I have seen her use every tool and she gets the job done. As for “taking a job away from a qualified man” the department we work for is a small rural department. We often face staffing issues and don't have enough bodies to fill the positions. Even if we did she would still deserve to be there, as she fought to earn her spot. Also many of you should look into how wild fores are actually fought. There is a lot of time spent watching the fire, trying to get it to move in the direction it will cause the least amount of damage and standing the line between peoples property and the actual fire. Not every firefighter is standing there spraying water on the fire. As for her gear, yes she is young. It takes fire fighters YEARS and multiple fires to season their equipment like that. Then when they do they are updated, or switched out for safety reasons, and to help minimize their exposure to carcinogens that build on their gear. I am so proud of her, and every other fire fighter, for choosing to leave their homes and families to drive to another state and help. Upon my research, 100 ft of a 5 inch hose empty weighs approximately 110 lbs. Body mechanics that use to pull include larger muscles from the legs and back. Lifting uses upper body more. It’s possible.
Nose rings ear rings nope ! These aren’t allowed!!! They conduct heat !!! She’s wearing a structural helmet with door chocks . Appreciate you coming but they picked you to interview because of your gender. She’s definitely not a wildland fireman !
I would 100% agree. You are the first person to actually have made a factual statement. I was red carded and fought wildland fires, women can do the job as well. Wearing a structural helmet - definitely staged because of gender. Clean yellow is a sign of a newbie or P.R.
@@daveharty-wb2mr I too have been a wild land fire fighter and some times first fire of the season one gets new clean clothes. Since she is from a small town she might also be on the volunteer dept. @@parkersnoweI totally understand that BUT it use to be a joke/hazing point when you got new yellows to go rub them in the dirt, lol. I do understand what you are saying but there is no denying the structure helmet with door stops- not many doors in wildland firefighting. To anyone who sits on their phone commenting negatively about a female in the fire service, you should be ashamed of yourself. Yes she is in fact a firefighter, I would love to see any of you go out and do something about it.
Looking at her I just can't see that she has the same abilities as a man. Can she lift, carry save people with the same intensity and skill level as a man? Perhaps a show piece. I hope she is not being paid by tax payer dollars.
There's a good reason that fire fighters are usually fit, strong men. They can actually lift and carry folks from burning buildings to safety. Women are great for watching and talking about the fires.
Those homeowners in that area will be able rest easy tonight knowing that such a competent and experienced firefighter will be protecting their loved ones and homes tonight.
Give it a break everyone. The department she is with is mostly volunteer. They only appear to have a few part-time employees. Don’t pick on volunteer firefighters who serve their community.
I noticed that as well. I went on a little tyrade yelling wtf is she talking about. Then came back to the video to hear more of her crazy talk how she watches the fire instead of putting it out.
@@WalterGrassman What are they supposed to be doing w/ no water? Voting Democrat! Sure is nice they came in towards the tail end of all this carnage. The blue fools supervisors in WA State are as incompetent as the LA County Officials. At least we can see that the winds have died down a bit, she didn't have to scream into the mic.
I have to say what a disappointment it is to read so many negative comments about this firefighter. None of you, that have commented negatively about her, know her. I on the other hand I know her quite well. I am the Fire Chief of Sky Valley Fire in Washington state and have been with the department since 1976. Yes, I am of the old age where there were no women in the fire service. I admit it was difficult for me to accept that women belong in the fire service. Because we were men a brotherhood and women just didn't seem to fit. But it did not take me long to realize just how wrong i and my brothers were. Women added a great deal to our profession and now I am proud to say brothers and sisters. Makayla joined our department a few years ago beginning with her EMT class. Followed by a full academy which qualified the cadets meeting the national standard of IFSAC Firefighter 1 and 2. Further the academy instructed Wildland firefighter certification and Hazardous materials along with various other courses. She passed all of her classes and testing with flying colors and I am proud of her and all the other male and female firefighters that have stepped up and joined our department. She does not deserve one word of your ignorance. I would say this is probably the first time she has been interviewed by a reporter and most likely extremely nervous. She would never want to say the wrong thing or bring discredit to the fire service especially her own department. So here is a relatively new firefighter caught in the moment asked by a reporter for an interview. More than willing to help in any way she can she provides the reporter with some of her thoughts. Not thinking how cruel many of the public can be. Well, you taught her a lesson don't be nice, and instead of being honest and who you are rub some dirt on your face and tuck in your hair and look the part. Don't worry about doing the best job you can, worry about being fake. I believe this interview was literally only a few hours after she arrived in CA. Yes, still clean and somewhat fresh after a 40-hour drive, but how could she know she needed to either not talk to the press or be a fake. Knowing her she probably will never talk to the press again. I am sure she is plenty dirty and exhausted by now, but rest assured you all taught her a valuable lesson on how cruel ignorant people will treat you even when you come to help and give your all to help others.

She's another poster child playing a role. FWOKE
This little girl can actually pull around those heavy hoses? hmmm
Upon my research, 100 ft of a 5 inch hose empty weighs approximately 110 lbs. Body mechanics that use to pull include larger muscles from the legs and back. Lifting uses upper body more. It’s possible.
Well, she's hauling around that big nose piercing. Must follow so blue WA guideline.
@carmiethompson2676, thanks. I totally missed that 😂
Wild land fir fighters tend to use 1” hoses and they are quite easy to pull around, miles and miles of them.
how sweet, shes made new friends.
Her clothing has never seen dirt let alone a fire.
I remember working with a girly girl blond on Lake Chelan who had new clean clothes, she worked her but off and some how managed to stay clean for 2 weeks.
@@parkersnoweI totally understand that BUT it use to be a joke/hazing point when you got new yellows to go rub them in the dirt, lol. I do understand what you are saying but there is no denying the structure helmet with door stops- not many doors in wildland firefighting. I was in the field with women as well and they all worked just as damn hard as the guys. Total respect for the women that get it done.
Ask her if she can carry a 200lbs person.
@@Scruffyman81 I remember when the requirements was 250 pounds up and back down 3 flights of stairs.
He shouldn't have gotten himself into a situation where she needs to carry him out of a fire!
@@azazelRising72😂😂😂 nice one
Why would she need to ?
@@parkersnowe because that is her job?
Yeah. Lets just stand around and talk. And look like someone who can make a difference.
Why are these so-called firemen just watching the fire? 🔥 😮
Yeah, it's different, here in my garage
How can she handle a powerful water hose? She is kind of small
the hose doesn't have water in it.
Thank you for your service!
Oboy
Make what difference!!!! YOU GOT NO WATER !!!!!
That's not fire fighting, they are just standing there watching.
Looks like a DEI hire to me. Good luck.
DEI
What is She 14 Years Old?? More DEI Hires in Full View, is She going to carry a 200 pound guy out of a Burning Building, Great Real!
Give her a break. Can't be easy being chased all around the firehouse, all the time, by those larger firewoman.
Another D E I participant standing around , didnt look like they were doing anything except observing ,
Wherever there’s a nosering, there’s fire.
Doesn't seem to be doing much.
She ain't no firefighter she's to clean!!!!!!!!
I honesty think she couldn't get half the work done on a fire line as a man given the same amount of time. But she probably gets paid the same.
Now how could she carry a 300 poubd victim from a fire. Dei . But thanks for being in the fight.
Give it a break everyone. The department she is with is mostly volunteer. They only appear to have a few part-time employees. Don’t pick on volunteer firefighters who serve their community.
I highly doubt that she was held to the same physical standards as the male firefighters when applying to the fire department.
But yet she went through the same academy and passed the same test as the men
This little girl looks like a kid she's sweet I hope she doesn't get hurt😮
Her previous fires have involved her "letting it do its thing". What? You didnt even try and establish its pronouns?
I noticed that as well. I went on a little tyrade yelling wtf is she talking about. Then came back to the video to hear more of her crazy talk how she watches the fire instead of putting it out.
This gotta be an SNL skit 😂
There’s a fire burning and they’re standing around shooting the shit. Do better
They're really standing there doing NOTHING?
They look at the fire and admire how pretty and powerful it is.
Thats more than you.
This is so fake.
Not fake. I know her.
What was Predictable, Can be Predictable
more DEI
Ah excuse me but your keeping a man from that job that could do it so much better.
This child should not be playing at being a firefighter.
She’s not. It’s a photo op. Listen to her replies on her experience. Shaky voice and the tone isn’t right.
Wow her gear was super clean…
She has not been fighting fires or anything else. Perfectly clean face and uniform.
It's nice that she had time to do her makeup.
Puts a firefighter suit on stands back and says "LOOK IM HELPING! 😊
God is the Owner of the Kingdom. He gives the kingdom to whom He wills and takes the kingdom away from whom He wills. In His hand is good, and He is over all things competent
THIS IS WHY EVERYTHING IS FALLING APART
NO SKILLED PEOPLE ANYWHERE
ITS ALL ABOUT FILLING THE RAINBOW AND THAT DIVERSITY BULLSHlT
She hauls water, two bottles at a time to the real firefighters. What a scam.
She looks highly qualified 😂
Still where is the water??💧💧🤔??
Of course the women firefighter is talking and not actually doing anything
She makes me feel so much safer I know when the going gets bad she's going to get in there and get it done
God bless ya'll... Stay safe... In Jesus Name... 🙏 🤲 🤙 ✌️
Kalifornia incompetence on full display in these 🔥🔥🔥
She’s from where they let the fire “do its thing” …no wonder her crew is there!
Useless.
So funny how they made sure to put a woman firefighter to speak 😂
I don’t see any firefighting going on..am I blind?
Omg no wonder why the place went to hell
This chick with the nose ring hired to service the crew after a days work. And she is there to obviously watch it do it's "thing" and burn itself out.
Just standing around the campfire with pancake makeup and metal objects hanging off our faces.
She is a fire watcher, not a fighter.
Who carries her gear?
If I pull the nose ring does that activate the hydrants?
Let’s say there’s a guy who is stuck in fire and can’t walk and she’s the only person over there can she be able to even lift the guy or remove the debris answer is ‘no’
That hat looks heavy on her.
And just what 'difference' are you making, Little Girl?
