Your videos fill me with deep contented happiness, I find myself no longer alone in the make it work, regardless of what the designers had in mind camp.
Many years ago my cousin and I added a hydro vac to his old one ton truck that he used for work and we had the same issue with the pedal pushing/kicking back,. We added about a quart size vacuum reserve can to it that we mounted on the fire wall, and also added a check valve between the can and the intake manifold and it solved the issue.
I'm happy to see your subscriber count growing. I think you were around 7k when I subbed. You make great content, your projects are interesting and your humor makes me chuckle.
Add the advantages of never having to clean a missing windshield, replace wiper blades, or refill the windshield washer reservoir, and, in reverse you can spit through it. not advisable while going forward, where 'blowback' becomes a concern.😁👍🇺🇸😎
@@-oiiio-3993 I got my 'bug smiles' riding motorcycles. After hitting a swarm of cicadas doing about 65-70 once has convinced me that in my car, I DO want a windshield.😁
That is one of the biggest adjustable wrenches I've ever seen!!! I love your videos and your style, thanks so much for always making such great content!!!
28:30 Jeep etiquette-- younger Jeep must ALWAYS acknowledge the Senior Vehicle first... JK/JL this means you! Herm the OverDrive guy is a national treasure for we Flattie owners!
I love your approach to things, I have a 1958 cj5 Willys and watching your vids give me confidence that I can do everything myself, thank you for all you do❣️✅️
Day 3 of a couple hour brake booster install. That’s every project I do 😂 Another great video. I enjoy your editing and your humor. Oh and I learn a thing or 2.
Some proud of your comment about using the used Euro and used Jeep brake line fittings being "a little bit of a mess." That right there is what you call your specific experiential assessment.
I love this channel - it is both informative and amusing, it amuses me how you just find a valve, a piece of metal the correct size, the right sized piece of wood, the correct nut and bolt ad washer - either on a shelf, in drawers or on the floor. The channel is perfect - you just mentioned modern cars from the sixties - that explains it all!!!
I really enjoy your videos, you haven't been changed by the big money in you tube like some other people I'm subscribed to. Please keep on keeping on sir .
Loved watching this build, the jeep looks really fun to drive! Now its going on the road, you could make it real fancy by installing some glass in the wind shield. I guess a horn would be good too.
Thanks. I am working on my 50 Willy’s wagon that had an original power booster very similar. I really enjoyed your expert engineering. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to get started on mine now that you’ve put out this info.
The brake hydrovac appears to be a PBR (VH44) or a copy of a PBR, they were available with a remote air filter for when they were mounted under a vehicle. They had an adaptor to take a hose and then they had a snorkel high up in the engine bay. You can mount them higher than the master cylinder but you need a residual pressure valve. I can send you a copy of the service manual if you need it.
it is a very important advice, to avoid internal corrosion of the unit, it is mandatory that the air make up would be located where it won't suck water droplets when the vehicule is driven.
Thanks for the info! All the other hydrovacs I've worked on have had a firewall mounted check valve, glad to hear that this booster does have one in the system somewhere.
You sound like me 'explaining' to my sons what and why I was doing things while working on vehicles and equipment. I blew so much smoke up their behinds it forced them to figure out the ACTUAL why and what for themselves - 'It CAN'T work like THAT Dad, it COULD work like this though -and I'd listen...see if on right track, or say well, could it be this, or that? ' - they would get it right, even if I had to nudge them in the right direction. It might be a gas to hang out, fix something and blow a bit of smoke up RUclips while doing the work.😁 👍🇺🇸😎
18:59 "now I just gotta figure out if it's too much flare or too little flare"... or is it Ric Flair...🤣🤣🤣 Outstanding work, love the videos. Keep up the excellent work.
hey lbg just a reminder to get that old trans-am running, i remember when you brought the hood to hang in the shop which i see behind of you. im looking forward to that
I'm glad to hear the brakes work much better now 😁👍 Great job with the repairs James! I enjoyed the video 🔧🔩 Take care and happy wrenching on the projects
You made that look fun! I should probably do a similar thing on my old car. I like things simple, though. I'm going to keep this in the back of my mind. My master cylinder had a piece in the end that seemed to convert it from bubble to double flare. It was kind of pointy on both ends.
Always love to see old Jeeps getting up to par. I worked at a parts store for several years, and I cannot tell you how many bubble to 45 adapters I had sold. I think they made them illegal for some reason, either that or the part just aged out of production. Keep up the good work.
Captivating process. Fortunately, being a borderline genius, most of it was understood. Very nifty little tractor those Jeeps. Maybe that's where the J in JBC comes from?
The channel "Watch Wes Work", yes, that's the name, goes over the break line gig a few times. He gets it right. He definitely is worth a watch. He lives in the rust belt so, lot of break line work on his channel.
Really enjoying watching your videos, You really must be having fun out there in the Land of Enchantment. I seen where you went through Alamogordo to go get that engine on another video you put out. I miss going to Cloudcroft, especially during the summer. Keep up the good work!
Does that booster have a check valve for the vacuum supply? If not, you only get full power at idle. WOT & engine off (ie: stalled) you get no assistance.
K10 backing plates and calipers. Cj7 rotors mounted on a Dana 25 or 27. Best brake package up until AMC bought jeep from Kaiser and the dana 30 started to be used.
I have thoughts. But nothing to say. You did a great job. The parking brake and the cable seem to meet up half way when one is relaxed and the other has the slack taken up a little. Maybe a bolt would fit in there one day? Just have to wait for the part to be invented. Great job overall.
Great vid , if that jeep is anything like a land rover, pulling that handbrake on while moving will soon knacker it up , to much torque in the transmission . Thanks for sharing 👍
Would it be possible to extend the hose that goes to the booster intake air filter. Extending that hose someplace under the hood or under the seat would make me feel better. Never know when you might find a puddle.
I don't know whether this helps.... The Toyota Sienna van in the year 2002, 2003 era...uses a booster with an unattached reservoir for the fluid. Two lines carry the brake fluid down from the reservoir to the master cylinder.
*- I know the bailing wire will adjust well with a simple screwdriver twist or two.* *- Still, what kind of fix could be engineered that might be better and easy to do, too?*
Does that exhaust pipe going well so close to the booster get hot? Maybe you could fit a larger section of pipe over it to act as a heat shield. Just an idea, keep having FUN!
It is a vacuum booster, I've always heard them referred to as a "hydrovac". It gets confusing being so similar to "hydroboost" that does the same thing but running off hydraulic power instead. I kept mixing them up doing this video, I thought I edited out all the wrong ones but I probably missed some.
I suggest you would be better off running a breather tube from the hydra vac to somewhere well above the water line. Relying on yourself or the next owner to remember that fording water will kill the power brakes seems like not such a great idea.
Am I the only one, or is this man contagiously positive to others as well? And, daamn good mechanic! 👏👏👏
Well, I reckon 119 thousand people agree with you.
“Should be a quick job” then takes three days and three trips to parts store…somehow comforting knowing I’m not the only one!
The tracked flat fender in the background looks like an excellent project for the future.

so entertaining; knowledgeable, funny; and interesting; i have a 51 cj3a with gremlins; i learned from this and was motivated; thanks.
Another advantage to not having a windshield you might mention: With the new brakes, you won't smoosh your face into it!
Add the advantages of never having to clean a missing windshield, replace wiper blades, or refill the windshield washer reservoir, and, in reverse you can spit through it. not advisable while going forward, where 'blowback' becomes a concern.😁👍🇺🇸😎
It's a safety feature if you aren't impaled by the steering column atleast you now don't have to worry about when you fly through the glass
@@johndenton5555 As long as you doing under 30, spitting should work
Besides, with windshield (windscreen) up you'd miss all the tasty bugs.

I Like the power brake thing. great blog thanks from East,Texas
Great explanation on brake lines, fittings and correct tools. Definitely cleared up some confusion for me.
Having the windshield up (with glass in it) really helps in the rain. As long as you are moving, you don't get wet even with no roof.
It really does work well. I get weird looks in my miata with the top down in the rain.
Well done mr low buck. Love the vid
