Played this for my grade K, 1, and 2 music classes. They LOVED it. I like how the teacher says a little about the instrument, but not too much. We especially loved the viola song! Thanks
I’ve never played a classical instrument 🎻 but I dream that I do. For me the viola and cello sound the most pleasing to me. I also like the sound of the uncommon 5 string viola dubbed the chin cello.
@@Zzsillykitty_Vi There's a great piece for the Cello called Mozart's 5'th Violin Concerto arranged for Violoncello:ruclips.net/video/hvJ3_c3C-O8/видео.html
Great comparison. My 4th grader came home with these 4 on a list saying he wanted to do orchestra this year and had to pick one. I had a loose familiarity with each, but this really helped us get clarity and him to decide. :)
You can also tune a Double Bass in Fifths (C1, G1, D2, A2, plus high E3 for 5 String Models and even so F0 for 6 String Models) cause my Bass tutor Joel Quarrinton said Fifths tuning will have much better intonation with the rest of the string section.
Lindsey Butcher 1:48 Another neat thing is that if you decide to play the Cello this year, is that you get one at home, & one at school this way there's no need to carry it back & fourth w/ that heavy case on the bus.
Lindsey Butcher There's a new kind of string family called the New String Family by Dr Hutchins. The instruments are named by the sound they produce: Treble, Soprano, Mezzo, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Small Bass, Big Contrabass.
"Contrabass is the most important instrument, and we would want you to play it".... what she ment is, "Please someone play it, no one plays that instrument.. AAAAH" Its weird that drums are so popular but bass is not, Im not that informed in music but bass sounds like a support instrument like drums, mby ppl just like to punch stuff
@@lindseybutcher8159 You can also tune a Double Bass in Fifths an Octave below the Cello cause according to wikipedia it'll have better intonation. The new violin family has 5 more instruments the Treble which is an Octave above Violin, Soprano Violin which is an Octave above Viola, Tenor Violin which is an Octave below Violin, Small Bass which is 2 Octaves below the Violin, and Subcontrabass which is 3 Octaves below the Violin. The 5 String Contrabass in Fifths aka 5Bass is really a gift I'll like.
I'm going to try to teach myself the violin during this pandemic! I've always wanted to play a stringed instrument (guitar), and I will get a guitar too... but doing a musical inventory I realize that the violin just really makes me smile whenever it pops up, whether that be in Baroque or bluegrass or epic music. So I'd love to learn that one (though, what I may THINK is violin may actually be viola or another one of these 4, I'm not sure). Can't wait for it to arrive, I ordered a cheaper one to see if I can even play it lol.
Just saying u may need a teacher just help you with things you may not realize your doing wrong if it was piano it's easy to be self taught. Best of luck I hope you be grate musician one day but most importantly don't give up!!!!! P. S what did you get?
1:48 The other great thing about that the Cello is that you get one at home, & the other one at School this way you don't have to use that Cello case to carry it.
This was actually the video that taught me the difference between a violin and a viola. If I had to choose a string instrument, it would be either one of these two. If I had to pick just one out of both of these, it would be the violin. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd rather play an instrument that gets more attention. In this case, the violin gets more attention than the viola. Besides, I like a lot of the higher sounds the best. Even though the cello and double bass are so unique due to the much lower sounds, they would be really heavy to carry, especially if you are just taking lessons and are not planning to do any performances with them.
@UCtJEi8xNLX2GnjWXGkgWFnQ I'm getting a 5 String Cello which has a High E String added, because the High E String allows me to play Violin pieces down an Octave right off the bat.
Feel free to use the video. What is mentioned is dated information for the terms in the buildings I taught in when the video was made, but the actual instrument info is the same.
What about that sound that’s like a violin, but it’s used on longer notes and it’s rally high pitched... i don’t know what it’s called. You can hear it in songs like Ready As I’ll Ever Be Non-Stop Hamilton Or in suspense music
0:27 Violin
0:58 Viola
2:06 Cello
3:07 Bass
Those are the open strings on these 4 instruments. Thanks for posting that comment. 😉
Violin: Optional
Viola: Optional
Cello: Sit down
Bass: Stand up
Played this for my grade K, 1, and 2 music classes. They LOVED it. I like how the teacher says a little about the instrument, but not too much. We especially loved the viola song! Thanks
Linda Morgenstern, La Cucaracha was the tune played on the viola
Great video straight to the point and very easy for a layman to understand what each instrument is.

I'm a cellist :)

@@lorihodge6148 Have you played Mozart's 5th Violin Concerto on Cello before?
I think it's sad that the double bass dosnt get enough attention or recognition or players. The violin gets all the attention, I play the double bass
WEIGHED NEPTUNE u mean cello
WEIGHED NEPTUNE I mean, I play the viola, that's just sad
Same with viola
Roblox.girl2122 XP nope double bass. Not cello. Cello does get attention mainly for its size and name.
WEIGHED NEPTUNE l play the guitar and the double bass and also the piano. I get what u mean.
Non-musicians: violin, medium violin, big violin
I like how Violin and viola are just the same thing
This was an awesome video. My favorite is the double bass. Thank you for uploading this video. 🎻
Double Bass is my favourite string instrument
this was very helpful! I may choose cello or the bass!
AgGenie 101 CELLLLOOOOOO
As a cellist myself I'll admit that's a difficult choice. Both are absolutely lovely instruments.
tvclips 101 play cello I play it
Ava G, PLAY THE CELLO! i play it and its amazing

Love the uplifting, cheery sound Michael. Nice job!

God Bless you Mrs. Butcher! Sure wish I had this demo when I attended school. Fabulous basics on the String family. Thanks much!!!
The CELLO is my favorite instrument.

P. S what did you get?
Wow amazing demonstrate
Lindsey Butcher My favorite is the Tenor Violin.
If you want to play the double bass, you don’t necessarily have to stand up to play it. You can also play it while sitting on a tall seat.
Ah let the viola jokes begin (if the bass is one of the most important guess what by far is the least important).
rip violas. I play viola
And I do too. A violist's life is a sad life.
Zackery Cooper probably because you play the viola
That’s not wrong
Is da viola 🤮

Can (upright) bass be played by hand?
Yes.! Jazz Musician do more than any other Group.♫♪♫♫ Country Music, musicians do too.
I really like all of them, I think I would probably get 2 cello and several violins, guitars, bases, drums, etc. I just can’t choose😂
The E string on the Bass sounds like a deep horn from a boat.
Or that one annoying sounding key on a piano where it’s not even used (not to be offensive to pianists of course)
Lilyplayzallgame no, I said piano, the lowest key/note that doesn’t even sound like a note
Lilyplayzallgame XD
Lilyplayzallgame well, I’m a woodwind, but I wanna play strings, and I’m thinking viola and I think I’m gonna start soon
Well done!
I play viola and on my birthday I’m getting a violin and then a cello and then bass. I want to be a strings conductor.
I would love to use this video for a virtual lesson introducing the strings family, if that's ok!
Thank you...very helpful.
In my school only the string bass has one at home and one at school
I play bass in the high school it's really fun

What is the song you used on the cello?
"Infernal Galop" from the opera "Orpheus in the Underworld" by Jacques Offenbach
Pretty helpful! Thanks!
I love the way you wink 😉😁
Do you give me permission to play this video to my preschool classes in my private home studio?

that’s a violin on a higher octave. You have no idea how high violins can go! I’m a viola myself.
vShotz Old Channel that is so cool! Thank I learned something new, and I might start playing the violin, it sounds so great! 😁
which tune did she play on cello?
not sure if you've found the answer yet or not but it's Jacques Offenbach's Galop Infernal

The bass is mega thicc
Octobass
Do the woodwind family
Theres actually no difference, I have to learn the difference between the viola, violin and cello for a test :/
Small to large. As they get bigger, the sound gets lower. Then there is sitting or standing. All in this video
If you can't hear the difference, you're hearing is not so good...
