    I LOVED THIS PART. Gongaga was optional in the OG and even if we don't have the turk gossip scene, i love how they expanded this part! Cissnei is so sweet and all the added bits with Cloud and Tifa. Surprises like this is why i'm glad there's some changes in the remake trilogy. It's surprises all around!
    I did some more than usual cutting cause i was just standing around talking through a lot so for the sake of pacing, wanted to just get into the game content.

    The entire lifestream sequence was so well done. It not only lays the foundation for Cloud's recovery sequence later on, but also helps to flesh out why Cloud means so much to Tifa after everything that's happened. He is literally the only thing she has left of her old life, and she is the same for him.

      This will also help explain how Tifa guides him through his memories.
      In the OG she simply just "knew" how to do it

    This Gongaga sequence with Tifa might be my favorite part of this incredible game. It's so powerful, emotional, and quintessentially FF7 despite being entirely new. And it sets things up so well for when we will hopefully piece Cloud's mind together later.

    It’s such a cool detail that when Sephiroth swings into the Weapon’s side it stops his momentum because it’s tougher than he thought it was ; to the point where he had to palm his blade and push with both hands to finish the swing

      I know and I like how Runebee thinks the real Sephiroth is still the bad guy when in fact its Jenova illusions. Sephiroth will be the hero of the story. Runebee must not know that Nomura's favorite movie is Star Wars. Vader destroys the Emperor before he kills Luke. Sephiroth is Vader.

    ***OG Spoilers***
    Interesting how they gave Tifa's character a much more expanded role here, she now has experienced the lifestream and it won't make Part 3 weird with her sudden experience to be able to guide Cloud through his own memories
    Add to that, she's been given a connection to Weapon, which now that I think about it, makes sense for these, prepare to be mindblown:
    1. Sapphire Weapon blew a hole in her Junon 'execution room', allowing her to escape onto the cannon
    2. Ultima Weapon dropped by Mideel and caused the ground to break, thus allowing Tifa and Cloud to fall into the lifestream
    Here's my take, with Sephiroth now seeing Tifa as a threat, the Planet is using the Weapons to help her, because she is the key to getting real Cloud back, and he needs to be whole in order to fully defeat Sephiroth

    Why did the weapon know to save Tifa? I think that starts with why Sephiroth is trying to manipulate Cloud to not trust Tifa. In the OG Sephiroth never tried to destroy Cloud's relationship with Tifa, but I believe this version of Sephiroth knows that Tifa helps Cloud get his shit together and eventually become strong enough to win a fight with Sephiroth. So Sephiroth first tries to destroy Cloud's trust in Tifa, then he tries to kill Tifa while inside the weapon. Essentially trying to take out Cloud's reason to fight and his biggest ally.
    So then why did the weapon try to save Tifa? Because it's part of the planet defending itself against Sephiroth. The planet knows Cloud and the gang are allies and friends of the planet, so the weapon comes along to show Tifa that Sephiroth is the architect behind Cloud's craziness and to show Tifa that she needs to help Cloud. I'm fairly confident this is the intention of the writers for this version of Remake/Rebirth.
    The black vs white whispers I think has to do with the gang defeating fate/Destiny at the end of Remake. My theory is that Sephiroth wanted the gang to defeat Destiny so he could get another shot at controlling the planet. The black orb face whispers are a part of that somehow.

      This is true, I will also add, the weapon purposely swallowed tifa to show her the lifestream and relive her memories because they know tifa is what keeps cloud sane and by the day cloud is slowly losing it. So during those times, sephiroth was trying to intervene and preventing the weapons from reaching their goal which was to show tifa those memories she forgot about cloud.

      @@deyama2012 You make it seem like Cloud and Tifa were officially a couple? As in actually together, gf/bf. Cloud himself opened up more around Aerith and showed interest back. She literally asks if Tifa is his gf in Remake and he blatantly says no. Heck even when Aerith asks if she’s someone special he says it’s not like that. If Aerith was all about forcing herself onto Cloud why would she make Cloud go save Tifa from Corneo, he didn’t even care to want to go. It isn’t Aerith’s fault that Cloud is indecisive just because Tifa is more into him than the other way around. If he was dead set on Tifa, he wouldn’t be entertaining Aerith at all. He would shut it down real quick. To me it always seemed like Tifa settled and I think personally she could do better. Cloud needs her around because they grew up together so she’s familiar and knows what happened. I don’t even get the appeal of Cloud, he’s pretty dull, but I do think Aerith and him have more natural chemistry and it’s less forced tbh.
      Aerith was a genuine friend and person, or else why would Tifa be crying for her at the end of Rebirth? She should be so happy that she finally gets Cloud to herself for once, right? Lol

    • @deyama2012
      @deyama2012 3 месяца назад +11

      @@The3rownie Cloud is Cloud. And he's just met Tifa again after 5 years. I'd be more suprised if he did call her his gf straight away at this point. And acknowledging she's someone special would ruin his image of a cool guy, that he's trying so hard to maintain at this point in the story.
      "Tifa is more into him than the other way around". That's how it may seem. Cloud and Tifa have 15+ years of backstory, most of which is likely yet to be addressed in the next game. I won't spoil it for you in case you don't know the full story, but let's just say he was ready to die for her not once, but twice already.
      As for Aerith, Cloud has known her for about 2 weeks (from the start of Remake to the end of Rebirth) and most of this time she couldn't help but see her ex (Zack) in him. It's open to interpretation, but her song at the Gold Saucer is probably more about Zack, than it is about Cloud. Otherwise, there is no way I can expain her crying at the end of the song, other then her still longing for Zack.
      There are reasons for Cloud being the way he's been up until the end of Rebirth. But it's not a coincidence that he always ends up in the top 3 most popular characters in any Final Fantasy game ever. You might change your mind on him by the end of the next game. Or you might not. Tastes differ. Narratively, I totally see why the writers would want to make the player fall in love with Aerith as much as possible (which may also mean less focus on Tifa). And I also can see the appeal of more lively optimistic characters such as Aerith and Zack. But I personally love this story for having two socially awkward, romantically clumsy, indecisive people that occasionally have hard time navigating their relationship as its main couple.
      I do believe that both Cloud and Tifa genuinely cared for Aerith and want to believe that she felt the same all the way up to the very end of Rebirth. It's just that sometimes she did things that didn't quite feel like something that a good friend would do, and that I can't imagine Tifa ever doing in case they swapped places.
      There is a bunch of instances of Cloud turning Aerith down romantically in Rebirth (not so much in Remake), but this wall of text is long enough as it is

    • @The3rownie
      @The3rownie 3 месяца назад

      @@deyama2012 Tifa was never his gf though, unless I’m missing something. Like they never made that official. Sure they had a thing, but why would he say that’s his gf if she never was? I think it was messed up that he said she wasn’t someone special to him though, especially in-front of a girl that he clearly showed interest towards too that he had just met over someone he’s known for a very long time (childhood crush) and that took him in when he arrived back in Midgar
      Well they didn’t really know each other like that as children, no? They were just neighbours and grew up in the same village. Even when he wanted to go off to Midgar it was a way to prove himself in general. He always seemed like an outcast and lacked confidence so wanted to join SOLIDER. Yeah, he wanted to go to impress Tifa too, since Tifa’s dad I believe didn’t like him after that incident with Tifa and he was probably looked at differently by the other villagers, but if anything it was Tifa that kept pushing for him to promise her to come save her. Tifa again was the one that eagerly was keeping tabs on him and asking Zack about the blond guy in SOLIDER and if he had come back with them. Even Claudia mentioned that Cloud’s perfect type would be someone older to keep him in check, and that’s coming from someone that knew Tifa too and was neighbours with her
      I mean it’s only natural if Aerith see’s Zack in Cloud for the first time since her first love was a SOLIDER and Cloud does mimic his style. He’s still Cloud, personality and all. Aerith makes this pretty clear when she says that they’re (Cloud and Zack) two completely different people, but look exactly alike. That was her first impression, but that later she realizes that Cloud is different and the situation is different. In Ultimania it’s stated that, “although in the beginning Aerith felt close to Cloud because he behaves like Zack, her interest in Cloud himself grows and she is attracted to him.” In FF7 Dismantled, Aerith’s monologue, “at first when I met Cloud, I believed he was similar to Zack. Little actions, the way he spoke… his kindness.
      But Cloud is Cloud. I, now undoubtedly, love Cloud much more than Zack.” Even in Rebirth when they all visit Zack’s parents and they are excited to finally meet the girl he had been talking about Aerith kind of brushes it off and basically says I’m sure there were other women in his life. Cloud asks Aerith if she still likes Zack upfront and that’s coming from someone that’s pretty awkward and not direct. Cloud even says forget about that loser in front of Tifa too. Marlene makes it clear to Zack herself how Aerith feels about Cloud later on. As for the song it seems to me like it was more so meant for Cloud as he was looking at her rather intently and he even caught her favourite flower which symbolizes reunion, maybe she knew her fate, but I guess we will see if Zack and Aerith get to finally meet in part three and their interactions with one another (my guess is she will wake up from her coma and join Zack in the other timeline, but I’m not sure). Although I never minded Zack and Aerith together, they were a fun couple, I think him and Cissnei would’ve been cute together too
      Sure there were more scenes between Cloud and Tifa for part two, but maybe it’s just my own bias that again I saw Tifa pushing more for his attention than the other way around. Maybe that’s just how I’ve always viewed it up until now and other’s see it differently and that’s fine

    • @deyama2012
      @deyama2012 3 месяца назад +10

      @@The3rownie You seem to know the full story, so I won't bother spoiling things. I hope that's fine.
      There is a novel called 'Traces of Two Pasts' by the same writer as the games, focused on Tifa and Aerith. I'm still in the middle of it myself, but there are a lot of details about their childhood. But even without any external sources, I feel like the game tells you enough to get a general picture.
      Tifa: Hey, remember when we were kids? How you'd, you know, always be looking at me?
      Cloud: I, uh... What?
      Tifa: (laughs) Every time we made eye contact, you'd look away. And when I tried to talk to you, you'd ignore me.
      Cloud: Not surprised... I was a pain in the ass as a kid.
      'My White-Haired Angel' side quest reveals that Cloud remembers a lot of details about Tifa's cat even 7 years later and shows Cloud joking about how he's been catching cats (meaning that specific cat) ever since he was a kid. Doesn't seem like something a boy would do time and time again for a girl he doesn't like. What I'm trying to say is that Cloud was glad to hear Tifa ask him to make that promise, even if he tried his best to act cool about it. He was the only one to follow her into the danger of the mountains years before the promise. But I won't try to persuade you.
      Also I personally wouldn't trust Marlene's (a 4 year-old) with her evaluation of what 'liking someone' even means. Even so, it doesn't say anything about whether Cloud 'likes' Aerith back (whatever that means for Marlene). As for the song, I doubt Cloud does anything like catching a petal in Tifa's route version of the date, so that one is just the game playing along with player's choice for a bit. On the other hand, Aerith's tears at the end of the song are in every route. And I'm pretty sure the game makes it clear that Aerith in Remake did indeed knew the future, but Aerith in Rebirth doesn't as she's lost that knowledge. So it's unlikely she cries because she knows her future. Unless for some reason she does.
      'So do you still like that guy even 5 years later? Forget that loser' to me means 'There's no way I wouldn't somehow get in touch with the girl I like. Being a Soldier myself, it's either he doesn't like you back - and so you'd better move on for your own good - or he's dead'. There is nothing in this line, that's 100% undeniably romantic rather than something that a guy would say to his female friend. And Tifa takes it the right way, as she's clearly angry, rather than shocked or jealous. Again, I'm not going to persuade you.
      'I’m sure there were other women in his life' to me personally feels more like a projection or an excuse, as Aerith herself starts developing feelings for Cloud.
      Cloud's mother's words are undeniably important to him. But knowing he's spent last 4-5 years in a coma/vegetative state, mental age-wise he's not that far from Yuffie. Take that as you will.
      In regards to Cloud/Aerith chemistry, consider these episodes:
      Aerith: We're trying to enjoy ourselves.
      Cloud: We're trying to get paid.
      Aerith: For the record, I'm treating this as a date.
      Cloud: I wish you wouldn't.
      - During the date at Gold Saucer Aerith has to physically drag Cloud with both hands at least half the way towards the Skywheel cabin.
      - At least twice in Rebirth she invites him to sit beside her and gets rejected.
      - If you simply compare his replies to Tifa vs Aerith in front of his room before both dates, it's pretty obvious where his heart is at in terms of romance. Very reluctant with Aerith, has zero hesitation or even takes the initiative with Tifa. Idk, people can call it chemistry, that's not what I call it personally.
      At the end of the day, a lot of this stuff is complex and vague enough to give people room to see it the way they want. I feel like a lot of it comes to the player's own beliefs, morals, preferences etc. Whether one is convinced that a man and a woman can't be friends and that everything has to be romantic among many other things. Imo, one thing that's hard to argue is that no Final Fantasy game ever had an asshole as a protagonist. So, knowing how the story ends, whenever people say that Tifa is Cloud's consolation prize, I ask: do you really think that of all the Final Fantasy games this one would be the first to have its protagonist get involved into an intimate relationship with his childhood friend, while secretly having romantic feelings for another girl?

    I never played the original but I have to say this game hasn't been going how I pictured it at all. One of the things that drove me the most in the first part was the whole Tifa vs Aerith debate... I felt like they pushed Aerith pretty hard in the first part. Remember we had that long segment with Aerith starting from the church all the way through the Wall Market scene.(And she's pretty flirty through most of it) I think that's part of the reason so many people shipped Cloud and Aerith. But here in Rebirth, I feel like it's been all Tifa...
    Part of it is probably my doing since I had the deepest bond with Tifa going into the Gold Saucer segment but still... It starts with that flashback scene in Nibelheim, then Cloud and Tifa have that argument, then it's Tifa at the Gold Saucer, then it's Tifa who falls into the mako... I'm 11 chapters in and other than the opening, I feel like Aerith has been pretty much non-existent, and I'm really surprised by that... I would of thought they'd be tying to build her up more, I mean don't we still have her whole infamous death scene coming? Isn't that like a huge deal? I figured how they handled that would have the most emotional impact and make the biggest difference in the story. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about because I didn't play the original, but I'm really surprised so far.

      Yea the devs/writers are making it more clear that Tifa is the main love interest for Cloud. Since Crisis Core and Zack’s history with Aerith they’ve put Aerith in Zack’s corner, just look at the Rebirth alternate cover with Tifa and Aerith. Tifa is standing on Cloud’s side under their green promise sky while Aerith is on Zack’s side with the blue Crisis Core sky. This Gongaga scene is also not an optional choice so it is fully canon

      In the OG this part of the game pretty much drops any and all romance until a later scene close to the end of disc 2. Instead it keeps track of your responses and which character you keep in your party. But the long flashback is essentially the same, and Tifa gets some important scenes that relate to Cloud and their shared past.
      It's pretty obvious the Remake devs made a decision to keep a larger focus on Cloud x Tifa in the added scenes. I was honestly a little surprised Aerith didn't get a bigger role in Rebirth. I thought Tifa would be the focus of the third game, but she kind of overshadows Aerith in this. Then again, Yuffie kind of gets more spotlight than either, so the devs REALLY like her.
      One change I enjoy a whole lot is all the extra scenes that make it obvious Tifa and Aerith are good friends. They're friends in the OG but it's SO much more apparent here.

    why does Tifa just brush off the fact that Cloud almost murdered her?

    • @Renoistic
      @Renoistic 3 месяца назад +1

      That's a very good question. I'm guessing her trip in the life stream reminded her who he used to be? Perhaps it even changed her permanently. And the whole team keeps looking the other way every time Cloud loses it. It's not very well established unfortunately, but they're all dead set on keeping him around no matter what. It's one of the most vague plot points in both OG and Remake/Rebirth.

      I think it's because Tifa knows there's something seriously wrong with him and she's too scared to confront him about it. So she thinks talking to him about him almost killing her might trigger him further.

      @@wildbard4112exactly, we know this from the very beginning of the game when Cloud's recounting the flashback scene. Tifa was there, she knows what Clouds saying is wrong, that he wasn't the SOLDIER he claimed to be, but she lets him finish because she's either too scared to speak up and/or is trying to be supportive of him until he figures it out.

    3:32:10 I was wondering why Runebee was calling Cait Sith "Reeve" and a "48 year old man at Shinra". Maybe I missed something or a detail up to this point of the story, but all I know was that Cait def has some Shinra knowledge and clout, being able to use Shinra terminals, etc... but I don't recall his real identity brought up. I assume this is one of those things that are well-known to OG FF7 players, but for those that've only played the Remake/Rebirth, it would've been a great reveal to them. I do enjoy and appreciate Rune's thoughts and opinions on how events or plot points play out similarly or differently vs the OG AFTER said events (it's the main reason I watch her let's plays), but mentioning things that have yet to play out or not apparent to the remake/rebirth only players, seems spoilery to me. Just my two cents.

      I think she did mention at least on some of her streams, that she wouldn't bother too much not to spoil things for those who didn't play the OG. I mean, it's just how things are with many streamers, familiar with the source material. But is Chapter 9 really the first time you noticed her spoiling things?

    • @DrowzyDan
      @DrowzyDan 3 месяца назад +6

      You did miss it, there is a cutscene in rebirth earlier than this where it cuts to Reeve and Tsung in the Shinra building in Reeve's office and another Cait Sith unit is on his desk behind him.

    • @deyama2012
      @deyama2012 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, the one, where Reeve is changing the party's photos. But to be fair it seems unlikely for a newcomer to be able to make any conclusions just from that small hint alone

      @jle218 I gave fair warning in the first video of the series that I'd be talking about things from the OG game that could be potentially spoilery for Rebirth. I am sorry that I could be spoiling things for you but i'm definitely not going to hold back my love of the OG and talking about it :)

    Lmao at the Tifa fans in chat! You guys think Tifa can take Cloud? Dude killed Sephiroth 3 different times 1v1. Cuts buildings like nothing. Can summon meteorites from space. Killed Bahamut Sin in one hit. Moves so fast Sephiroth can't see him (omnislash version 5). The female Tifa fans are nuts! I like how people think thats the real Sephiroth that Cloud has killed. The real Sephiroth takes down Weapons and Summons in one hit which is why Jenova has been using his form. The real hero of the story is 1st Class Soldier Sephiroth who was lied to from Shinra about his parents and who will make things right. Soldiers cells degrade but he will not end just like he won't let Cloud end as stated at the Edge of Creation. Brace yourself for the hero Sephiroth to save the planet and all of soldiers.
