That had to have been an amazing adventure for David and his cameraman. Great story. Thanks for sharing it Nick.
both your videos on Australia the hard way are a really interesting glimpse into a time gone by. I loved the line "we had life jackets but I dont think we ever wore them" really enjoyed all the videos ive seen on yours. thanks
Thanks for your comments and I'm very glad you enjoyed these. They're quite niche, but they're some of my favourites.
gday i am looking at sailing my 26x macgregor trailer sailer from the gold coast austrailia to indonesia in april next year,i would like to know how long it took u to sail across to Darwin and how did u find that stretch, regards adrian
How old/young were you when you did that mission? Sorry I probably missed that part.
Words fail me, amazing, truly brave and modest, the Viking raider lives in this man. Amazing. ⛵⛵⛵👍👍👍☠😎 Balls of steel.
When men were men, respect, legends, ⛵️
". . . so we surrendered." hahaha Good call.
This is driving me nuts! I read the book in the early 70's, borrowed from my local library, now I want to find where they departed from in the UK but I can't find it anywhere online!
At last! Your link to the video David says at the start Chichester Harbour! Why was that so difficult a bit of info to find?
I worked for marine projects, back in the day as a rigger, in the "outside Gang" and spent some time preparing David's moody 30 for racing, happy days!! Sailed with David on the two handed qualifying run. I also met Angus Primrose the Moody designer, both were great blokes easy to get along with.
Jim. John here. I just sent you an email to watch this one 🙂
Great interview. Leads me to want to sail in nothing shorter than 300 foot however.
Surprising you didn't ask him if they had separate ensuites😂
Fantastic, loved the interview
Love this content of these two videos about Australia The Hard Way. Did he go on to say what other sailing he has done?
Have a look for the 1976 single handed transatlantic race videos on my channel - same chap.
extraordinary. I think the comments says it all. Amazing..!! 🛀
Probably couldn't take that route these days with all the trouble round Turkey/Syria/Iraq. Amazing story, and a nice glimpse into the recent past.
Australian Sandy Robson paddled from Vienna to Australia a few years ago, in her sea kayak.
I lost track of her adventures after India.
I spoke to her about getting through the Middle East, I remember her saying she needed three visas just to paddle around the end of Cypress!
I didn't realise quite a large area (100km2?) is still British territory.
I remember her going through Iran and Pakistan. Most of the Iraqi towns on this video are now best remembered as ISIS and desert storm battlegrounds - sad to say.
Both these videos are just incredible
Nice to have that Q and A, to elaborate beyond the remaining film. Truly amazing adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Most inspirational.
interesting chap.all the dibedy i could listen to all day.nice one nick;)

What a great bloke !
Absolutely fascinating. Both this and the main video. Well done capturing these bits of film, and especially the memories Nick. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it, I really felt this was worth preserving. 🙂
Brilliant 👍 .
