    Year: 1965
    Mint Mark: No mint mark
    Face Value: 0.25 USD
    Total Produced: 1,819,717,000
    Silver Content: 0%
    Numismatic Value: $1 to $35.00

    In 1965, 66 and 67, the coins were made at all three mints, Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco, but they did not include mint marks, because there was a coin shortage. Mint marks returned in 1968, but they were all on the obverse of the coins from that point forward.

    I love those old '65 quarters. They are great coins to collect when you are a newbie to collecting as they are 52 years old and still rather easy to find. I save any coins 50 years or older as thats when they start to get a bit harder to find.

    There was a coin shortage in the mid 60s so in order to minimize hoarding and coin collecting, mint marks were not used on any coins. All of the circulation coins (cents, nickels, dimes, quarters) were made at both the Philadelphia mint and Denver mint, but you could not tell the difference because there were no mint marks. Mint marks were resumed in 1968 but were on the obverse of the coins rather than the reverse. The exception to this was the cent, where the mint mark was always on the obverse.

      @47485ksc 6 лет назад

      No. Why? I just wonder why you waste so much air time on crap coins! jeez, kid, buy a Red Book for cryin' out loud! I just tried listening to the "commentary" (tee-hee) but kept kitting my head on my keyboard! I kept nodding off! Seriously, I dig that your into numismatics but you should look beyond common, face-value coins. Try metal detecting and posting videos with "commentaries" (tee-hee) on your finds. I started detecting 22 years ago. Should have started 51 years ago when I was a kid! In the short span of 22 years and only along a 60 mile corridor of I-5, I've found thousands of coins including NINE (!) Walking Liberty 1/2 dollars, 1 silver dollar (1888 O) hundreds of other silver coins dating back to 1870, 1 and a half Mason jars of just wheat cents, over a hundred Indian cents, 119 pounds of everyday "clad" (junk) coins and my prize, an 1870 Carson City quarter valued at $18,000! Clad quarters? Why bother? You should have known.

    You're more likely to win the lottery than to find a silver 1965 quarter in your pocket change.
    But, in the astoundingly unlikely event that you've found what you think is a silver 1965 quarter, and you can't tell whether or not it is a sandwich (Cu-Ni) quarter, throw it on your gram scale. If it's silver it should weigh in at over 6 grams, even if it's worn nearly flat. If it's Cu-Ni it will be less than 6 grams even in mint condition (5.67g).
    As others have noted: The lack of mint marks in 1965-67 does not mean they were all minted at Philadelphia, they just don't have the location of mintage indicated. I have heard speculation in years past that this was done as retribution for people hoarding the 90% coins out of circulation, kinda punishing the bastards for snatching up the coins. This also explains the extraordinarily high mintage figures for the first few years of clad coinage, making up to the shortage created by hoarders.
    FWIW, I'm 64 years old and remember this transition. There were stories in the "Weekly Reader" about the coming 'sandwich coins' and how they were created. Even though I was only in the 5th grade in 1965 and money was worth more then, I managed to save up a couple dollars worth of silver coins. Nope, I don't still have those particular coins. My older brother stole them from me, LOL.
    BTW, keep your eyes peeled for 1975 quarters, while you're looking for silver 1965s.

    I have a 1967 Quarter with a error from mintage.What I mean is it has a cut coming from the rim which could only be done while in mintage,How know is how the metal is shaped there is no way it could be fake.
