    Yes being present is so crucial for me. I've always ran from fear. Now, I have forced myself to acknowledge the fear for just exactly what it is, fear. Forcing myself to work through the pain in my belly, in my head, in my heart and acknowledge if it is real or fear. With this newfound freedom, at age 47 I am truly free of the fear that has kept me captive from being an authentic human, at the hands of the humans who have abused me with not my fears, but their own.

    So glad I found your page. I'm a college freshman and going to school during COVID is especially hard. I think what makes it hard is that I do not have a room mate, so I'm just alone with my own mind every day. I've never felt the need to cope with my feelings in my life until now, and I had no idea where to start. Thank you for making your videos so understandable.

    My deepest sympathy to you and yours for the loss of your Grandmother Queen. I pray for your healing, especially knowing that you are ever so diligently healing others. Know that your Grandmother is with you at all times. All PRAISES due to the Most High God! 🙏🏾. You are a true blessing. This video came up and this is my 1st time watching. I did subscribe to your channel. You brought light to a dark place for me. I am a U S Army Retired (1982 - 2005) Iraq War Veteran and a true child of God. I believe because I am a (Black) woman and a Veteran, the universe could care less about my mere existence. Folks think that once you return home from a War (I was a Tractor Trailer Operator) that you fit right back into a sense of normalcy. NOT TRUE! I am grateful that I am mentally stable. Just know that my trauma didn't start with the Military. You have explained these diagnoses on a level that most can relate to and I appreciate that. Even the VAMC does it a little different. Just want you to know that I appreciate you today and will follow your videos for some "self help." Thank you, humbly. Peace & Blessings, Light & Reflections 💯

      Hi Danielle
      Thank you very much for your heart and your wonderful words. Thank you and it has been God that has carried us this far. It is tough to lose somebody that you love and who played such an important role.
      I also pray for you and hope that you are doing well because I strongly believe we need to do better as a nation for our veterans. Thank you for your service to this country and for giving us the ability to live in peace. The least we can do is return that favor to you but unfortunately our country is a lacking in this way sorely.
      You have given me an idea to possibly do a video on the people who are ignored in our society and what that has done to them. We need to do better.

      @@TherapistTamaraHill Greetings & Salutations Queen Hill. Thank you! You are too kind! I am humbled! I would like to encourage you to do a video on African American (Women) Veterans because WE are FORGOTTEN. All we need is RESPECT, but, in a world that has degraded us (A.A.) as if we're not even human is demoralizing. And separate the phony's from the real folks. I may get an occasional "smile" if I have my Army shirts or jackets on, but, usually ignored. We suffer in so many ways and normally it is the "Black" women Veterans who tend to keep it under wraps. I'm not asking for anything, but, it would be nice to have some recognition sometimes. It's not easy to say the least. I wish well wishes to ALL Veterans and Civilians who deal with trauma in any way because at the beginning and the end of the day.... a painful heart is a painful heart. I "Thank You" in advance for the help and knowledge you put out there and it's a blessing coming from a "Sista!" 😌. Keep smiling Queen & enjoy your week. Make it great! Great video, thank you. I am sorry for the loss of your Grandmother, it's never easy losing someone you love. I lost my Mom 32 years ago today. We talked on the phone early that evening and she seemed fine. So when I got a call the next day saying she died it was hard to process it. She was only 58 at the time. To make matters worse, a neighbor emptied my Mom's pill bottles and so I was told by police she committed suicide. It took a month for the autopsy report to come out and find out she died from liver disease and not suicide.
    I have GAD most of my adult life. I was molested when I was 6 and watched other kids have it happen to them too which was even worse. A couple days after I turned 13 I was sitting across from a friend who was accidently shot in the face. It's the only time I was in shock as I ran out of the house screaming for help. The kid who was shot died two days later from a blood clot. So it's no wonder I've had anxiety issues since then. I normally didn't have the fight or flight response, I usually would freeze with my panic attacks. My anxiety has declined in recent years. First I learned to take deep breaths when I experience anxiety. I stopped drinking coffee and that made a big difference. And I've been using a weighted blanket for the past couple years and it does a good job making me feel calmer and fall asleep faster.

      Hi Bambii. I had social anxiety really bad in my past. You don't have to answer it here, but what are you afraid of exactly? If it's how others might think of you (which is what I had), I'll tell you what worked for me. One time in class, for some reason, I forgot to worry. I then realized how less panicky I put myself through. I then realized that the only way for me to get better, was to TRULY not care what they thought. Don't try to control your symptoms. If they happen and people look at you, who cares. If they don't, who cares. Will you even know those people in a year? You have to truly not give a crap what anyone thinks. It takes the power away from the anxiety issue. It takes some time. It won't happen overnight. But practice not caring (but really mean it) and things just might ease up for you. Good luck!

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад

      @Jeanne I agree with this approach but only with SOME things. You're right...who cares? But if we all go around not caring what good will we be? When do we know we should care? And can we turn the "caring" back on when needed? We don't want to be numb.
      We have to be careful not to dismiss life but rather choose the small things to ignore. It's not worth it. You're right.

    • @jeannes.356
      @jeannes.356 4 года назад +1

      @@TherapistTamaraHill Hi Tamara Hill. Thanks for your note. I didn't mean not to care in general. I meant specifics. I did have a specific issue and fear that they'd all notice. So the more I tried to control it, the worse it got. Let's say it's "I'm afraid people will see my hand shaking, when I'm nervous, and they'll laugh at me." And my hand does shake often and I'm really self-conscious about it. And people do laugh. To get to the point where I don't care if it shakes or not. To not care if they laugh or not. To let go of that fear. That's where my trying to control the reaction (desperately hoping it won't shake) starts to weaken. By not caring either way about it, you start to get your freedom and life back and not get distressed about it. (I was a counselor myself for several years). To then start to focus on what's important, instead of trying to control and obsess about a certain fear.

    Excellent timing!
    As someone who has been dealing and struggling with anxiety since my childhood I also wanna tell a mental way on how to deal with anxiety and the stress that comes along with it which works really well for me (and perhaps ask you Tamara on your thoughts about this 😁):
    accepting your authentic thoughts and anxiety so they pass through you. It works best when we are in a place in which we (physically) feel safe and are not disturbed. I found that we can use all the information on coping mechanisms on anxiety when we first accept the anxiety without trying to change it, so it passes through us and we "survive" them.
    Of course there are so many more elements that go along with it, because it‘s not always something that can be dealt with mentally but practicing acceptance on anxiety and those bad feelings so they can pass through us first helps to use other healthy coping strategies 🙌🏼
    because I found that when I deny, ignore or get around anxiety, it persists and comes back with even more intensity and feels like it‘s ruining my life. Since I started practicing acceptance on anxiety, it really helped my mind to calm down and stop figuring out on how to escape my situation or something.

    Thank you. I actually just found your channel from RUclips #Withme. I needed to hear some clear words. I was dating someone for 3 months and I recently had to remove myself from that relationship. She has CPTSD and borderline bipolar from childhood trauma. She sometimes forgets to take her meds and she's not being honest with her therapist. She seems to fawn or fight and I was often the closest to get the angry nasty rapid incoherent words. I wanted to stay with her and help her and was trying to be present with her but she would have flashbacks or have triggers and I became the enemy. Someone who shares friends with her, drives her kids to work, help her when she's crunched for time. She would berate me, tell me I don't care about her, I'm not vested in a relationship with her, etc. It all took a toll on me and I stepped away and put up boundaries but she negated those boundaries. When I would speak to her about it, she would deflect tell me what's wrong with me and how it's because I don't accept her, and shut down. (I don't think I'll ever be able to be vulnerable with anyone else). So just recently, I froze, shut down, and walked away. Now the emotions I've not been able to release or show with her are all rushing out. As someone once said "you shouldn't have to put out your fire to ignite someone else's."

      It sounds to me as if she isn't at the stage of growth yet and doesn't understand the importance of getting better in order to foster healthy relationships. She's on a destructive path of "hiding" and manipulating (intentionally or unintentionally). I like that last point you make. Very true.

    Hey been dealing with anxiety and depression. Been diagnosed with it over a year. Have been issues with the heart palpitations, don’t sleep much, rarely ever eat, the other day I thought I was having a heart attack with the chest pains. I felt super tense. Other than that I literally would get so nervous or scared that I have uncontrollable diarrhea or vomiting. I totally lost it about 3 years w/death of a loss one. Last March got diagnosed with major depressive disorder and this March doc said it was anxiety that cause the tension etc and trouble breathing. I kinda feel like it started when I lost my grandma almost 3 years ago we took her to the hospital during my birthday party. I literally can’t speak about death or talk about it without crying or losing it. I also have a shit memory now. That’s gone and I don’t even bother to associate with people anymore. I’m always down so I can’t spend time out socializing much or I get tired and just wanna run back home.... not sure what to do and I’ve tried different antidepressants and different dosages. Stressed so much I even started to have hair loss (thinning)!

      I'm so sorry Keely. I am also sorry for your loss.
      These experiences can be traumatic and very destabilizing. In cases such as yours I often encourage three things:
      1. Vitamin "therapy" - purchasing vitamins with B6, B12, and Q10. These supplements provide additional energy we don't get from food.
      2.Liquid form melatonin which may work better than pills.
      3. Exercise which increases feel good hormones and may foster better sleep
      We're a work in progress so we have to "work on ourselves" by trying different approaches until we find the right one.
      Take good care

    i just feel like i really abuse these coping mechanisms to the point where i feel miserable enjoying them because im such a “binger” on hobbies. i wouldn’t say im a procrastinator to the point where this interferes with my everyday life, but it is still makes me so uncomfortable and i can’t get longterm tasks done because i’ve wasted so much time with these small satisfying activities which have somewhat become distractions if that makes sense. do you have any tips on how i can better moderate myself?

    I'm curious to learn how mental health professionals help patients with social anxiety; sometimes a patient knows that their fear or anxiety is irrational but they cannot help their response/reaction.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад +2

      This is a great question Gaby. I usually assist my younger clients in going places they fear such as a playground or movie theater and walk them through the social anxiety. I like to practice first in the office and then again in public and then again at the place where they experience the most anxiety such as a movie theater. If I can teach the client to calm themselves with positive/balanced thoughts, by listening to my voice, etc. it shows them they CAN control it but they have to use the right tools.

    I used to think weak minded people were weak. Now I'm the weak minded person. I dont wanna be but I am. It all started this year when alot of problems came at once. I believe I've developed depression. I cant find excitement in anything or anybody. At least I do recognize my problems I know that's important.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад

      Thanks for being honest Cody. I certainly don't think you are the "weak minded person." Depression, anxiety, OCD, etc have no baring on whether you are weak or strong. I like to consider mental health as being more of a human condition that we are ALL susceptible to at some point and time in our lives. It's like diabetes and/or a heart condition. Living life and being human, experiencing all that life is, and trying to keep up in the world can all come crashing down on us causing anxiety, depression, etc. It's a human condition we are ALL susceptible to.
      Glad you see what's going on. I do hope it isn't getting you down too much.
      Take care

      I totally understand this, Mark. I had friends text and ask me to hang out at a restaurant. Even though they stressed it would be outside, I was freaking out about it. I didn’t answer their text for a long time because I didn’t want to disappoint them. Finally, after thinking a lot about why I was stressing so hard - because we had hung out before outside, socially distanced with masks on, of course! Then, I realized that it was because at a restaurant, I wouldn’t be able to control how many people would be around me, and I wouldn’t be able to “escape” like if I’m out taking a walk, or sitting in the park. So I decided I just had to text them and tell them exactly how I felt. I told then that I was sorry, and loved them very much and missed them, but I’m just not comfortable, or ready for that yet. I was surprised and happy to hear them say that they understood, and maybe we could meet somewhere outside where there weren’t other people around and I felt more in control of who was around me. It made me feel so much better. I was just stressing myself out without giving them all the information about what I was feeling. Also, your friends have to respect you, Mark. If they don’t want to hear you and they try to pressure you, then they don’t really care about your feelings, just their own. I will admit that I forget that sometimes.

    Psalm 85
    1 Lord, thou hast been favorable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
    2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.
    3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
    4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.
    5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? 6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
    7 Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.
    8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
    9 Surely his salvation is near that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
    10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
    11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
    12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
    13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

    My xwife for over a year has made my children fight in front of me has made my son hit me panic over going to church panic over doing homework. Throw fits scream and yell. Over the past year I’ve asked the children psychologist for help I’ve talked with the school.
    I documented everything my son repeatedly swears in front of me.
    In August the neighbor boy was at my house playing with my son and my son hit me and said swearwords.
    The neighbor boy said why would you talk to your father like that that’s disrespectful you have a nice Dad. My son’s answer was my mom makes me do it if I don’t do it I get punished.
    So, what does that really mean.?
    Not what normal person would think. She just wants to make in on my time and split the kids away from him, No that is not her goal.
    What she want is to win and look good. And to make me look bad.
    If I talk with the teachers about the behaviors after fight and homework is not turned in,
    I have these tremendous behavior problems out of my children.
    Am I X Wife can do the homework in five minutes she’s a super mom and the children don’t have panic attacks around her or anxious or anything.
    So it has to be the other parent is the problem. I’m doing something wrong with the children I’m making them act as way just to make my ex look bad because I’m asking for help and I’m trying to prove I have a problem.
    I bought a police cam. They can record for 12 hours if needed remote control.
    I asked my children and they only tell the truth if they are angry with my ex.
    Both of them said they get punished if they do not miss behave in front of me punch kick scream.
    If you Google one parent has anxiety panic attacks fighting hitting with the children and the other parent has peace and quiet.
    Google brings up the magic word triangulation and parental alienation.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад +2

      That's a lot for these poor kids. I would look into getting them a trauma therapist and a child-based trauma therapist who can develop a relationship with them and help them work through their thoughts and feelings. This is a lot! If there is parental alienation going on as well as triangulation, the kids need an outlet with an adult who is objective and non-judgmental. Someone who is not so emotionally entrenched in the situation.

    • @HatBilly2008
      @HatBilly2008 4 года назад

      Today, I had them and both did the same thing again, I took the camera away and said, I not going to record anymore.
      Both you have too, I said why each day it is the same, not listening bad time. I try and what difference does it make to record it.
      My son said Mom will punish Us if you do not.
      So my x wants them to act out I record it show The children psychologist office and so I am the only one that has a problem with them.
      She making them do this, so I look bad and she is a victim. That’s a big case of alienation.

    • @TherapistTamaraHill
      @TherapistTamaraHill  4 года назад +1

      It sounds like panic attacks. Most likely from your own thoughts about the things that bother you. I think we "go inside ourselves" sometimes and totally miss that we are thinking very deeply about the things that bother us. We may even begin to blame ourselves for how situations have turned out. This cycle causes the panic attacks. It might be best to question where your anxiety is coming from the moment you notice it. This "sharpens" the brain for being more aware of what you anxiety is trying to tell you.

    1. Buy a KJV version Bible. 2. Read it. Start with the book of John. 3. Get to know God. The Old Testament is extremely important to "know" the mind of our Father. 4. Pray to Jesus Christ to accept him, admit to him that you are a sinner and NEED a Savoir. Find a Bible-believing church and attend regularly. Be sure the Pastor is preaching the true Words of God. There is a verse that says, "Be careful (anxious) for nothing but in prayer with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God and the Peace of God that passes all understanding will guard your heart and your mind." THIS will alleviate your anxiety. Trusting your Heavenly Father with all of your life, decisions, future will give you a peace you never knew before. It also works for a lot of other issues.

    Believe it or not, this might be the most important post you'll read
    Everyone of us has broken God's moral law, the Ten Commandments. We have all lied, stolen, hated and lusted. And James 2:10 states that breaking one of the Commandments makes us guilty of breaking them all. Problem is, we can never outweigh our sins through good works because the Creator is perfect in Holiness, meaning His standard is far above ours. And He is also perfect in Justice, meaning not a single sin will go unpunished. And the punishment of sin is being cast into hell, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth with no end. Ever.
    Fortunately, God is also perfect in love, so 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ left His throne in Heaven and came to this earth as a man. He lived a perfect, sinless life and He so loved us, that He took the punishment of our sin, when He suffered horribly on the cross. Isaiah 53 tells us that his face was marred beyond recognition and that he suffered more than any man. But right before His death, Jesus said "It is finished" meaning the the debt for our sins was paid in full. But on the 3rd day, Jesus conquered death and He was resurrected. So that means now, we can go free from the wrath of God's judgment not by earning it, but rather as a free gift of grace, if you accept Jesus. But, a gift can either accepted or rejected.
    So if you want to accept the free gift or forgiveness, of grace, and of salvation, this is what you should do:
    Humbly admit to God that you have sinned against Him, and through gratitude in the sacrifice of His Son, repent (turn away) from your old sinful ways. Then, confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, your Savior. Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and was resurrected 3 days later. Roman's 10:9 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 says that if you do this you are saved. I'm not telling you to get religious, because Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with God.
    And the moment you do this, God will grant you a new heart, which does not take pleasure in sin and He will give you eternal life. Nothing on this earth even close to compares to what awaits believers.
    What you do with this information will determine where you will be for Eternity; meaning accepting Christ is the single most important decision you'll EVER make. And all of us here, believer or atheist, know that this is very true.
    Jesus Christ wants YOU to come to Him this very moment; don't even think about sleeping until you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, because your tomorrow isn't guaranteed. You could die at any moment. Hebrews 9: 27 "It is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the Judgment."
    All praise and honor to Jesus Christ, King of kings, Lord of lords.
