hi nathan, thank you for what you do. i learned about the fact there was a bate's method late last summer. prior to that i had seen "eye excercises" from brightside, but honestly i think half of the ones they do may actaully strain your eyes by doing too much of it. as you said here. i decided to inbetween than and now, read the actaul entire 36 chapter book bates wrote. it seemed to focus mostly on theapies that literally 'relax" the eyes. not the other way around, as they work themselves out as they are amazing machines that heal themselves. and we just have to work with them. part of the issue was , bates ,while brilliant as heck, also wrote in a fashion of 110 years ago or so. and almost too brillaintly where as now I am starting to watch some of your videos, where you explain HOW to do these methods more. i have done some , a few things a little each day and my eyes are already better. so one question i have is. when you do sunning , are you closing your eye lids just barely or do you want to cloe them real tight, also, do you look directly at the sun while doing that (with shut eyes of course) or look in the direction of the sun? i am lucky so far. i am 47 and 11 days old :) and have not worn glasses yet. in the past few years after 40 i started noticing it seemd like i was probably going to have to wear at leat reading glasses by 45, i am past that, every other person in my family wore glasses by than or before anyway but i absolutely refuse, i will take my work screen and make it bigge rif I have to zoom in and out, or take a magniying glass if I need to focus in on something, rarther than wear glasses. but anyway, i am curious, if you might be able to tell me what the best excrecises are an dhow much of it for the what i experincce. my right eye is a little weaker than left. at times before this i had sometims felt like t looks maybe slightly darker, however when i use a magnifying glass or throw cheaters on for a minute and close the left eye, my eye sees just as brightly as it should. and i think most things are good, just trying to work on increasing my reading of smaller print. i thing last year when i got my eyes checked, i was very very slightly near sighted? or well i think that is it, whre if i pull prting away from my eyes to a certian piont i can read it better. up closer it is harder. and then the only other thing is i have floaters, and wold love to get rid of them. anyway, i am going to start watching more and more. but these are some of my questions i have :) i sincerely appreciate what you do
Hi nathan.i am one of your followers and following you for long time. Would you be able to do a video on eccentric fixation or diffusion where like dr bates said we try to see large field of vision at same time clearly or see part of object clearly which we are not directly looking at with fovea.even though dr bates considered eccentric fixation to be major cause for all refractive errors i am not able to find any videos talking about eccentric fixation or diffusion in more detail. Also the links in integral website especially the drop down menu is not working properly sir.please help to have it corrected
Regarding rest for the eyes, as far as I understand if you put your head on a pillow in bed and close your eyes it is a great rest for the eyes, isn't that good enough instead of palming
The secret about palming is that it's less about how we achieve darkness for our eyeballs, and more about how we achieve mental relaxation for our mind. The reason we cover our eyes with our palms is to activate our memory, imagination, and visualization. Yes, it is mainly about relaxing the eyes, but according to Dr. Bates, the eyes only truly relax once the mind is relaxed. So whether you're covering your eyes with your palms or your pillows, I'd say it's more important to pay attention to what your mind is picturing... and maybe consider starting to play with that and implement some specific Bates Method visualizations like the ones I share in my Palming Parties here on RUclips!
hi nathan I will share with you the current situation, on behalf of Gil Yagil. at the moment I have completed cataract surgery on both eyes and while doing so I was fitted with lenses that would match 6:6 distance vision in both eyes At the moment I still have a problem seeing up close and I need 1.75+ glasses and there is also a problem with a small cylinder In the experiments I did without a cylinder in 1.75+ glasses there is no problem seeing and up close without a cylinder In my opinion, the situation at the moment is easier to deal with and I hope to create flexibility in my eyes so that I can see up close and far without glasses over time and with proper practice
Hi Nathan , Thank you for the great videos Is it possible to use bates methods if I have an implantd lenses in my eyes? I mean if bates methods meant to correct the normal eye vision won’t this impact the quality of the lenses?
It's not entirely clear to me from a technical point of view, a matter of myopia, let's say -8, can the Bates method provide an answer to a correction of this magnitude
If I hypothetically had -8 myopia, I would probably start by adjusting down to some weaker prescription glasses gradually, like a -7.50 or -7.00 to drop me down to 20/40 or 20/50 correction instead of 20/20 or 20/10 correction. That, plus daily practice of physical and mental relaxation practices can help retrain the eye muscles to gradually attain greater range of motion and better vision habits, leading to a more flexible visual system and a lesser need for prescription glasses... so all the while as my vision gradually improves naturally with the help of the Bates Method habits and practices, my training glasses would be stepped down little by little, diopter by diopter, until I was down to say -4 (I've cut my prescription in half) or even lower, down to -2 or -1... and maybe I'm only using them for specific scenarios like driving at night, while at work, in certain social situations, etc. because the majority of the time I'm not wearing any correction because I'm using the Bates Method to get clear flashes and natural clarity, which is part of the daily routine. Even if I'm not able to get to the point of seeing consistent 20/20 or better without glasses, I would still feel accomplished about decreasing my dependence on glasses and the strength of my glasses, which very well could prevent future vision complications that often result from decades of using higher prescription glasses/contacts (like retinal detachment as a result of high myopia). So it's not just about seeing clearly, it's also about achieving healthier eyes and a more flexible visual system in general for the rest of your life! Hopefully that helps break it down a little more, but let me know if you have any other questions, thank you.
Sleep masks and blindfolds can help you achieve total darkness, but they do not replace the palming practice. There is a different effect when you have skin-to-skin contact and heat generated by your hands. Plus, many eye masks actually restrict the movement of the eyes at night, which could actually lead to more staring and straining compared to having your eyes uninhibited overnight. Therefore, using blackout shades might actually be better, but it always depends on the situation.
Hi I'm wearing spectacles since I was 12...myopia..but now I m 48 n just wk the doctor told me I m suffering from cataract n my vision is getting poorer ...n I dkbf want do any eye operation... I have full faith that my eyes can be cured without any surgery...we just need some sort of meditation ...plz let me know how can I improve my eyesight ...Thanks
Hi Nathan thank you for all. I am asking for guidance. I need to undergo cataract surgery on my left eye. Along with that, they are putting in a lens that will eliminate the need for glasses. so my left eye will be 6:6 or 6:12. meanwhile In the right eye there is no catact but i still need glassess the number is quiet high -10 and in the left it will be 0 without glasses. I thought this can be opportunity to try to arrange for the right eye to fit in with the left eye, what do you think?
@@NathanOxenfeld usualy you must start one eye and after minimum 2 weeks or 1 month you do the other side meanwhile you manage somehow. but i am asking myself maybe it is an oportunity try to fix the eye that did not have the operation. as for now my left eye passed the operation that include replacing the len to with lens with diopter of the glasses whithout fixing the cylinder. so now i can see well for distance with my left eye. the problem is that there is Anisometropia to much differance i'm not sure the brain can handle it i am trying to use glasses for awhile.
It is not always necessary to do cataract surgery for both eyes, sometimes it is possible if the eye is healthy just to add a lens to the eye with myopia or any optical problem. A simpler procedure
Hi, i wanna ask something, i started eye exercises, but motion makes me sleepy and bright light makes me close my eyes & I can't get use to it, also i got phosphenes (visuals hallucinations with closed eyes), i see them in a dark room, i even get them when my eyes are open.. the good is that i see clear but idk how to overcome the hypnosis state and sensitiveness to light.. idc about phosphenes because i had them as a kid before i get myopia
Hey there, thanks for asking. Ironically the best way to overcome light sensitivity is by gradual exposure to brighter and brighter light. Maybe instead of starting with the sun or with bright artificial lights, start with something dimmer. Gradually and gently work your way up and your involuntary eye muscles can start to relearn how to adjust to the light more accurately. In regards to the inner visions, that is actually a big part of the Bates Method, is working with your memory, imagination, and visualization... the whole mental side of seeing. So instead of avoiding that, maybe see what happens if you harness it and try some of the specific Bates Method visualizations like the ones I share in my Palming Parties here on RUclips!
Hi nathan . I have been having myopia since i am 8 years.now iam 22 and i am having visual snow syndrome for last 3 years. Can I cure my myopia along with visual snow syndrome through bates method. hopefully waiting for your reply ❤️
Hey! Yes, visual snow syndrome is an interesting one. I imagine it is connected to the myopia as well, so by working on reducing myopia, the visual snow symptoms may also diminish.
Yes, you should be able to feel the relaxation, which is essentially the lack of strain. When I first learned the Bates Method, I didn't actually know what relaxation felt like in my eyes, because I had been chronically straining for so long. So it wasn't until I began to release the strain that I could understand what the relaxation sensation actually felt like in my eyes. It's incredible!
Hii, I am a high school student and i have myopia so sunning in the morning gets hard for me as i have my school timing in morning. What can i do about it? And should i wear glasses while reading books?

Hi. Does bates method reduce eyeball elongation? Do the eyeballs come back to their natural size and shape?
Yes, the eyeballs have to have their natural shape, temporarily or permanently to have normal vision.
If eyeball has elongated, it can also be brought back to natural shape. But patience is required. It may take years.

Hello, is wearing a sleeping mask over your eyes essentially the same as palming?
