    The Final of Sewing Bee and the final of Unpicked! Thank you for watching and joining in with the conversation over the last 10 weeks and what has now been 5 years! Ting's got 5 weeks of the school holidays left so is going to put his feet up and I'm off to finish that gingham shirt!

    Thanks for all the lovely comments, not just now but all series, I don't set out to be controversial, I just give what I think is the ordinary person in the street's opionion, and clearly I get it right most of the time 😂😂. Massive congratulations to Luke, I shall wear my pearls with pride haha! Have a lovely summer, its time to watch and criticise the Olympics for now 😂😂😂

    Thanks for all your input. Loved it here in 🇨🇦. I really think (and I love her), it’s time for Esme to go. Her colour/sparkle/bow bias is over riding sewing skills.

    The season was enjoyable overall. I see they made accommodations to appeal to a larger population. As long as they can continue to show sewing on tv, I am interested. Love your commentary on each episode. Thank you both!

    The pattern for the glove had a straight cut to separate each finger. There wouldn't have been a way to cut them with a larger seam allowance.
    I was really happy to see all three do so well in the final. What a challenge to require draping! I do agree with Luke being the winner. He really pulled off his vision. He seems to have a great combination of design ideas, as well as the experience to pull it all off. It seems like he has often sewn something similar, if not as difficult, to whatever the challenge is. He really was relaxed throughout the whole series. He did it to have fun and learn some things, and he did all that, and more.

    Thankyou for the videos each week - even though I do sometimes disagree with you - I do enjoy your show. I'm very fond of the transformation challenge - I didn't like it when it was first introduced but I have grown to find it fascinating - I think it shows something different about the sewers - it shows how the contestants think and often a bit of technical skill. Have a great holiday and see you next year😎❤

    Esme reminds me of the Niffler from Fantastic Beasts that loves shiny things. Frankly I think her judging is more about what she likes and not enough about what the contestants have actually accomplished.
    Luke was a very worthy winner. Hope the producers do a better job vetting contestants and setting the time for challenges next year. We all want to see completed garments. Stuart has an excellent point, so many unfinished garments made it almost impossible to connect with any of the contestants.
    Going to miss you guys until next year's bee.

    Thankyou so much for your thoughts over the past weeks .i was pleased to see these three as finalists BUT I did think draping as a MTM was a bit unfair as it made that basically the whole competition ended up being decided on one particular skill that many home sewers don’t use however on the night Luke was definitely a stand out winner for me

    It was eye shadow week, and yet another series triumph for names beginning with a letter in the first half of the alphabet, which now have a whopping 9-1 lead over us hapless second-halfers.
    But seriously, I agree that Luke clearly earned the win in that final. They were also the sewer we most often saw helping other sewers throughout the series. They were also close to pulling off the triple -- winning all 3 things in an episode.
    If the opera glove pattern had had a larger seam allowance, there would've been too much space between the fingers. That's not my own observation - I picked it up from the Sew Mama Bear channel's episode review.
    As for the draping made-to-measure, two names come to mind:
    Remember Chinelo, the season 2 finalist whose pre-GBSB experience was approximately 0% paper patterns and 100% draping?
    There was an opportunity to use Shingo Sato's TR cutting technique, if any of the finalists had been that way inclined.

    • @Lazydaisy646
      @Lazydaisy646 Месяц назад +2

      I was thinking of Chinelo too.

      "Shingo Sato's TR cutting technique". I think some contestants did this in series 5, I remember some really beautiful sculptural tops

    • @tomscrafts
      @tomscrafts Месяц назад

      @@annavonbuchenroder5247 Yes indeed! Jen and Juliet were on the TR plan in the semifinal, whilst Leah and Riccardo took different approaches to origami. I think the take-away lesson was to use a well-behaved fabric with only a few TR style lines.

    There is a youtube channel called The Rest is Entertainment with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde and they were talking about Strictly, and how it's gotten more and more difficult and professional level, and they said that every year, the contestants come in more prepared and more competitive because they've watched the show! and can ace what the contestants did in previous years. I was thinking of Sewing Bee while I was listening, and it kind of explained how things got so high pressured and advanced. Although I've got to say I really loved the original Sewing Bee and there's never been a presenter like Claudia, she seemed to really care! And I believed her when she said she'd tried sewing herself because of the show. I liked Ailsa from the beginning and thought she was going to win until, all of a sudden, she seemed to be out of her depth and struggling along. But I liked Luke as well. And Pascha. I would've been fine with whomever won. And I think Luke deserved it. I've watched you guys (Stuart and Ting) for several years now, and I'm a fan. Thank you!

    • @SewingandCaring
      @SewingandCaring Месяц назад +2

      We were listening to a former producer and she said that what it is is they get former contestants to test the patterns and time frame for them. The issue is that some of them have been doing it for 9 years now which means the testers themselves are getting faster while the contestants stay the same.

    Suffering from GBSB withdrawal, I went back to watch the very first episode of the first season. Wow, it was so different! The pattern challenge was an A-skirt. There were skirts produced of all different lengths. Some added pockets and trim. One added a lining. It was all open to imagination, not like 10 seasons in.

    Firstly, thank you both for another excellent series which I have enjoyed immensely. Going into the final, I would have been happy for any of the three to win but I’m glad it was Luke as his (their) final garment was stunning. Ting was completely right about Luke having the best M2M. When I heard it was draping, I assumed it was Luke's to lose. I really did not like Ailsa's garment. Her top just didn't do it for me. I preferred Pascha's even though the skirt was too short, over Ailsa.
    Luke's garment was just amazing.

    I was Team Pascha for a long time, and I did love the final dress, but Luke's outfit was amazing and really well thought out with the juxtaposition of the sharp masculine lines of the white suit jacket softening into the pleats, and then the softness of the black top and skirt.
    Gloves are hard. (I have a glove pattern saved on my computer and I look at it from time to time wistfully.) Sadly my stomach dropped when I saw Pascha pick the lace fabric, that must have been like trying to sew with cobwebs.
    I agree with Ting about BBC 2 perhaps being a better place for the show, if it would go back to being more sewing and technique focused. I don't think it would take away from book sales, I think it would be more likely to drive sales tbh.
    Esma has been clearly driving the show towards a more design led structure for the past few series. But it's still supposed to be a sewing show, and I hope that doesn't change.

    Hello,
    Wow 10 weeks just flew past. Congrats to all 3 finalists and well done to Luke, it was great to watch a final where I could root for all 3 contestants. Even my favourite (not) transformation challenge was watchable. All 3 are worthy winners, and created wonderful final garments that are well out of my sewing abilities.
    I have plenty of thoughts about this year's show, which I will reserve for a later date, but right now, I agree with you both, we should celebrate the fact that sewing is on prime time telly, and allows these 10 creatives a chance to showcase their wonderful skills and talents.
    Thank you Stuart and Ting, for me you saved series 10 and made it a celebratory sewing, 10-week long party. Enjoy your holiday Ting and all the best for your lovely gingham shirt Stuart.
