Andy Wood was an absolute one of a kind. It’s so very sad that more than likely he acted so happy to mask all the sadness he had in his heart. The documentary about him was a super watch I would absolutely suggest it to anyone!!

I helped Andrew & his brother in the Emergency room that I worked at when they contracted hepatitis. We instantly recognize each other because both our bands played at Gorilla Gardens. He was a sweet guy, gave him two of the biggest shots of my career. We would chat every now & then after that.

I lost my son July 14, 2022. He was my whole world and I'm not sure how it is that I continue to wake up every day considering the fact that I feel like the biggest part of who I am left with him, that night. But I can say that music, Blue October especially, has reminded me & given me strength these past months. Music is something we shared, and I'll continue on for my son, and myself, until I can't anymore. 🧡

Can't believe it's been 33 years since Wood passed. Can't believe there's 6 of the biggest gone in Staley, Wood, Cobain, Cornell, Buckley and Weiland.
Staley/AIC were my personal favorite but they all contributed immensely.
Great documentary but I really don't like the constant use of the word "Grunge". They were bands from Seattle that developed their own unique Seattle sound but the word Grunge really only applied to Nirvana.

I started listening to Mother Love Bone in 1989 and was shocked Wood has died so suddenly of drugs. In 89 you could feel something was happening. Generation X was forming its identity and Grunge was a huge part of that. Say hello to Heaven truly is the sad goodbye to what could have been.

This was well done. In 1989 I was 23 driving home from work I heard Chloe Dancer. The song was brilliant. It was like drinking water in a time of drought. Besides a few bands like Janes addiction from the new upcoming scene called alternative rock music had gone stale. No meaning, cause or emotion. Then this song hit the waves. A year later Wood was gone. Little did I know that Grunge would take the world by storm. If only Andy Wood had lived. But drugs would take the lives of others like Layne Staley who to me was the best voice of the grunge era.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your story about Andrew Wood. He was one of the many awesome musicians in the "Grunge-scene". You brought me to tears. I've been a heroin- and cocaïne-addict for decades and since the same age as Andrew I started to drink hard liquor and it progressed to harddrugs years later. I thought I was in heaven when I used smack for the first weeks. Lying to my late parents that I was "just tired" lying my *ss off. I went to rehab many times in the 90's and played songs in my room from Mother Love Bone, The Doors and many others. Stargazer was my favorite back then. Never thought I would make it to 27(maximum). A lot of beautiful souls died during my life until now. Also a lot of less beautiful ones. But there is one thing my father would NEVER EVER name me during my funeral: Junkie. He and my mother died and I loved them dearly and I still mourn them as if they died yesterday. I quit drugs in 2015, when my man and I were sent to prison, but we had relapses and we still live, but life is not easy. The monkey on our back is calling for us a lot. But my husband almost died like 6 times because of relapses, the other 5 times were infections of his lungs and the oxygen-level in his blood. I survived hep. C.
MANY people don't understand how hard life is for vulnerable souls. I don't ask for pity, because I have hurt the ones I loved/love most: My parents and my daughter. Now I wish I died before getting pregnant. It's no life for a child to live inbetween two addicted parents😢. I'm so damn sorry. But Andrew Woods voice also comforted me through those long nights in rehab in the 90's. I wish you were still with us, although I only knew your voice and your unforgetable appearance on stage.❤ R.I.P. Andrew

Recovery is possible. People need to know this. This coming July, God willing, I will have been clean and sober 13 years from alcohol, cocaine and IV heroin. The amount of time you suffered doesn’t matter. I was into heroin 15 years, was homeless by the end of it and had burned every bridge I had by that point. None of the people that had cared about me in my life wanted anything to do with me by that point. The point is I had had enough, and had to experience enough humility to get my ego under control to the point where I became willing to listen to someone that actually had found recovery show me how they did it. Best decision I’ve ever made and, at the same time, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but well worth it. Now, I work with addicts full time. I’m not going to become a millionaire doing it, but money doesn’t buy happiness. There are plenty of rock stars that have found the world of recovery as well. The media tends to focus on those that have passed away. How about the ones that have found recovery?

Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone had the most singularly significant impact on rock in the 90s, grunge in particular. Ironically, one could scarcely call MLB a grunge band. Half the bands and music that came out of Seattle would not even have existed without Andrew Wood. Pearl Jam as a band probably would not have formed, Temple of the Dog, including songs like “Hunger Strike” and “Say Hello to Heaven,” “Would,” and “Far Behind” would not have even been written. His brief life and sudden death changed the course of rock music forever. Nirvana merely filled the void left behind by MLB.

I remember meeting Xana at the Oxford before I went to Europe in 1990/91, I used her name to talk my way into a Mudhoney show in Barcelona in 1992, I was super proud of Seattle for the Grunge explosion that was happening that year. Nice film. I'm glad I got off of "The Rock" as we used to call Bainbridge Island, but what a cool place, Seattle in the 1980s and 90s.

I was born in Seattle. Jane's Addiction is the OG. It all started with them - not Seattle and certainly not Mother Love Bone. When it debuted, MLB's music was still derivative of pop music hair bands of the time. Having been a rabid fan of Jane's, I remember MLB and we thought they were corny and we were correct. His musician friends obviously loved him, that doesn't mean he produced anything memorable musically.
Jane's Addiction broke new ground, was completely original and influenced everything to come. Nirvana broke the mainstream - Jane's Addiction gave birth to them all. Those 2 bands are the most important bands of the error. However, I could understand someone adding Gun's N roses and arguing they made it possible for Jane's Addiction to be heard.

How do you think these bands transitioned to what they became?
Everyone, even Pantera and Metallica started more as glam type rock, that was the trend transitioning from 70s kiss type stuff. But MLB was a little different than glam, slightly, so you can start to hear that transition in their music.

I mean, have you ever learned Man in the Box on guitar the right way? It's absolutely blues, alot of AIC stuff is just straight up blues scales and 3rd interval blues riffs like "🎶won't you come and save me🎶" that's the standard classic type of old timey blues riff with distortion... just as Cobain songs, even stuff like Serve the Servants (listen for that double fifties type of beat) are essentially Beatles songs with distortion (as Kurt said they were).

Watching another Andy Wood documentary, his brother said that more than one person OD'd on that batch of heroin. It was especially strong, and when people are used to doing a certain amount, things like that can kill you. Also, Andy's tolerance was probably low because he was just getting back into using after a stint of sobriety.

He was the last one to see Layne Staley alive, and left him on bad terms, only for him to die the next day. I had no idea Mike was also one of the last ones to see Andy alive too. Then asking who wants to do drugs at his wake? He was talented, but an absolute scum bag.
