Coming to the Coda EDC from a tin whistle, I find the fingering to be very straightforward. I think the Coda is a great travel whistle - it's compact and isn't affected by wind like a tin whistle is, plus the silencers are a great solution for indoor practicing.
what confuses me is that he made a second company for another plastic ocarina, while the mountain ocarina is it's own company too, when they both would make sense to be products of one company
I was inspired by Zelda OOT to buy and start to learn the Ocarina. I started about two weeks ago. And I tell-ya. The road so far has been fun! I just played my ocarina Drunk for the first time. - A tab-sheet I've somewhat mastered. ... And I learned that one can play the ocarina mockingly. Towards the tabs themselves. - It was interesting. And I am sure, anyone who heard it, would agree: *Mockingly played.* What a diverse instrument it is!
Drunk ocarina is a fun time indeed. It really captures all the (somewhat unintended) extra *expressiveness* when under the influence Not speaking from experience… or am I 👁️👁️
I bought one of these a couple years back because on the silent practice mode…. I did bring it everywhere just to putter around with music. Then one day I couldn’t find it. Wasn’t sure if I lost it or if someone took it. After watching this video I’m tempted to get another. My triple bass and quadruple bass are not portable at all and I don’t dare treat them like an “Every-Day-Carry!” My phone is an Every Day Carry, and it has hit the ground accidentally from time to time. Thanks for your great review…. I probably will get a replacement Coda.
I’ve never played any type of ocarina or flute. I assume that gives me an advantage with the slight setbacks you mentioned. I like the size and the muting capabilities.
Are there any ocarinas that have really solid tuning throughout their chromatic range, so that they would work well in an ensemble setting? As I'm listening to both of these, it seems like the tuning overall is okay, but there are some notes that are noticeably inconsistent. By the way, the video presentation here is fantastic.
I just found your videos on ocarinas and this EDC flute. I went searching for both the mountain ocarina and the CODA, BUT IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE THEY’RE AVAILABLE ANYMORE!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 If you know of a buy sell trade or anywhere I can pick them up, please let me know!!!!
While sadly the CODA isn't for me, as I'm still far too new at the ocarina, I think it's incredibly cool. The polypropylene alone makes me wanna get one, and a mountain ocarina, but I don't know enough to play them right... So they're shelved in the realm of cool ocarinas lol. I did, however, finally cave and order a Night by Noble for myself after drooling over it for 3+ weeks! It comes in on Wed, and I'm super excited about it!
the 'having to get all the fingers down' is something that basically every other wind instrument has to deal with. it is definitely a surmountable problem
Whenever he takes orders again, I’m almost certain you could contact him to make a custom paint job for that - he asked me about any customizations I might want when I ordered mine, including breath pressure iirc That said, the person who does painting for imperial city also is willing to take custom glaze/paint orders for any ocarina you might have (paid, obviously). Her contact is on their website
@@AndyCormierYT Duh, why didn't I think of that? Thanks Andy, I'll ask Spencer when I'm ready to make the order (and when he's taking orders of course). Maybe I'm weird, but I would love to have a matching set.
its funny how much you can tell that Karl was a woodwind player with the whole chamber switching system. Saxophone, flute, and recorder players will have no qualms about the finger wizardry required to jump between chambers.
There is something strange about breathing and souffle. You master breathing to play ocarina. But you speak so fast and you don't breathe when you speak. Be careful with your health.... Your body will not forget to remind you this later. Breathing is very important. Probably the most important thing you can do for your health :)
i ordered the Thomann 12H Ocarina on thomann. i don't know why they call it the Thomann ocarina since its clearly the focalink bravura. this guy made a review for it on his channel and said it was on par with the night by noble. it only cost me 20 euros with 5 euro shipping fees.

Andy your the man, i hope you have the best year possible and god is with you.
This is really cool. I love channels that review unique musical instruments. I'll have to learn ocerina some day so I can play one of these.

Good job Andy. I’m glad you like it. I really like mine. It is a instrument that you can grow with and it makes a great addition to my collection.🙂
I just bought my first ocarina! your channel helped me avoid bad amazon ones and I really enjoy seeing your ocarina reviews!
This is why I make my ocarina videos! I’m glad I’ve been able to help you :)

Nice! A lot of ocarina skills DO transfer, and I'd say the Coda is a bit harder to learn than a typical ocarina, but I bet you'll love it :)

Done. Picked one up through your link. Wish me luck.
I believe in you!
Im so happy i got one before they went on hiatus
How to clean it inside? Do I have to take apart then reassemble it (if yes, is it easy to do)?
Sorry, but what is the model for the natural one? For a french fan ? It sound great.
very nice Instrument❤ but Sold out😢Hope ist coming Back...

Ah yes the ocarina that Actually fits in my pockets :0

Like I say in the video, all the problems I mention are certainly surmountable withy practice! Never said it's insurmountable :)
Big news, I'm ordering a 12 hole OOT replica tomorrow.
Hey Andy, which books from the STL website do you consider are best to begin learning the Ocarina? (12 hole, single chamber) Thanks in advance!!
God and Lord Jesus bless you dear Andy, and all your family. Greetings from Chile.
You know what bothers me about that spencer double?
Spencer doesn't offer it in green like he does the single chamber. I wonder why?

Me as a recorder and sax player: This comment gets me.
