Leicester were trying to play like us with a much weaker team. That suits us down to the ground. It can turn into a game of basketball but when the game opens up that's where we our at our best. Teams like Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham etc are the types of conundrums we need to work out fast if we are to get anywhere.
Murphy is worth keeping as a second string RW. He missed his two shots on his weaker foot, made both goals on his stronger foot and had another shot tipped over by the keeper. Not perfect, but at least he HAS two feet and creates problems for the defenders.
Leicester were absolutely dreadful. Sheffield were as bad when we humped them 8-0, but that was away, and this was 4-0 at home, for perspective. I still feel like this team is half the team it used to be.
The only left back I ever saw that kept George Best quiet every time. Davy Craig on the other side, in my opinion the best full back partnership at the Toon ❤
We need a first class RW in January if we want to challenge in the second half of the season. I like Murphy - he's quick, direct, has decent feet and knows how to strike the ball. Bringing in quality can only be good for the lad too. Lewis Hall is a gem of a player. I hope we keep Tripps until the summer. Tino needs a break - his confidence in terms of taking people on seems to be lacking atm and who better than Tripps to give him the benefit of his experience...
Man....... you nail it every time. As good as I thought Murphy was, he should have scored 4 or 5 from the chances he had. Not sure I'd sell him on just yet but ............
Our fanbase doesn’t have the winning mentality but the club has never had it in my lifetime. We will never get it with Eddie Howe despite his great efforts. We will continue to be the underdogs and that is a reflection of a manager who hasn’t won anything but knows how to survive. Being winners usually requires you to be a***holes and upset people, Newcastle are too nice of a club to be like this.
I agree with the calm down message but I think this is a two way street. Sometimes we need to calm down when we lose. Brentford away was not good but factor in they have the best home record in the league. As for Palace away performance awful but took a point. Liverpool home was a great performance as was against Leicester.
murphy is lucky he got 7 clear cut chances and put 2 away that will NEVER happen in most games we need someone who can finish the chances in games where we may only get 1 or 2 chances and he WONT do that .sell or give away lol
Yes Leicester were poor, but from a Toon perspective a wonderful link up happens when Tonali plays. Is it a coincidence that Lewis Hall is far more effective when Sandro plays inside of him!! All good sides have combinations, Tonali and Hall work so well together and with Gordon ahead of them both, gives us that coverage and balance...
Yep I know Murphy is no worldy, but he brings, as you say, balance up front. For me I'd keep him in until the end of the season and target a CF and CB in January, they are must do's for me
glad to hear some sense, some would have you believe we were like peps barcelona. murphy running about saying what after he scored, should have had 7 ffs. leicester were dogshit. tonali is levels and levels above longstaff, hopefully eddie has noticed this. we are still several players short of a good team. hopefully move barnes early if he goes and mitchell brings us some decent players that can do things with the ball and not without it as eddie seems to be fascinated by that type of player
I'm very surprisingly confident about Wednesday - all the stars are aligned. 3 1. Best left back we've ever had was Alan Kennedy but Hall may surpass him
At the moment Jacob’s the first name on the team sheet simply because he allows Gordon to be on the left . Re Lewis Hall, you don’t learn anything sitting on the bench for 6 months as he did last season . You only learn by playing, gaining experience and, yes, making mistakes.
Im not sure where youre getting this from tbh. Ive not heard a single person suddenly saying that Murphy is the answer, yeah people are giving him his flowers for a good game, but thats it. were all very aware we need to upgrade on the RW.
As good an analysis as I’ve heard - sober, intelligent, consistent. I stand by everything I’ve said about Howe and this team, in the run up to this game I said we’ll probably win, but what would that essentially prove? Pardew won games at the end, mcclaren did, carver did, even the baron had little runs, I’m not just talking about first thing in the morning after his Friday night madras. Murphy is a championship winger, always was, every now and then he’ll have a decent game, as he did yesterday. As you say, that doesn’t mean he’s premier league class. Same with dubravka, absolutely. And wild inconsistency reflects as badly on Howe as it ever has. Nothing fundamentally changes until he goes. A stake needs to go through the heart of HoweBall. Bring a crucifix and some garlic, and let’s get this done…
Kennedy was a terrific player, frank Clark as well, bez n Robbie Elliot in later years; not strictly a left back but as a versatile defender who could play across the backline I always rated Aaron Hughes
@@TDM1165Did I ever bore you with the story about how Robbie Elliott’s brother once sold me a pair of his cast off mizuno boots? No? Oh well! Let me tell you! You see, I once worked with Robbie Elliott’s brother, in a call centre. And one day he asked me if I wanted to buy a pair of his cast off football boots. And I said “yeah”. And they were mizunos. I didn’t say it was a great story….
Dubs indecisive. Top descriptor Chris. That's exactly how he is in the box.

Irving Nattrass was class in his time here 😉 showing my age now!

Frank Clarke magnificent

Hall was great yesterday going forward had a few defensive wobbles
Haha on Horseback 😂Migs is like a Runaway Horse at the Grand National.

Fair comment that mate 👍

Eddie will probably give Murphy a new 5 year deal off it, Winning yesterday papers over cracks
Agreed Chris we need a quality RW keep Murphy and sell Miggy please!!
Brentford , will be very confident after easily beating Newcastle last week. 😢 Let's hope the atmosphere beats them .

Well you can say the same of issak this season and barnes and Gordon
And back down to 12th we go ...
Yet still just 2 points from top 6. Crazy logjam in the table.
Not even a 4 0 win good enough for the keyboard warriors that infest thesr sites with their never-ending negativity.
1]0%😅
Best left back ? Erm Alan Kennedy . Hold your head in shame
