I love sketchbooks that span a long time period. Even though it may feel like it took too long to finish, it’s a great record of progress and recalls to mind the experience of painting and your journey so far. I’ve always been a little intimidated by oils, but someday I’d like to try!
lately I have tried do a painting on Fridays. Except for being evacuated due to forest fire for a couple weeks it's been going great but nothing like your sketchbook. Well done sir, You're an inspiration
Thanks for the guided tour Slew 😃 the quick overviews you do are full of lessons, so many applicable to my own practice and how critique our own work. A joy as always to join you in the studio
I’ve started painting with oils in a sketchbook due to one of your earlier videos and loved it! Great reminder to pick it up again and start filling those pages 😅
I love your entire sketchbook! Such talent and hard work between the covers of that book! If you want a new sketchbook, let me know, and I'll make you one! I'm almost a pro bookmaker.
I just finished my first serious graphite sketchbook after 13 months yesterday. It was a huge thing for me to flip through it myself and see how much I improved since I started traditional last April. I haven't gotten to starting traditional painting yet, but seeing this sketchbook was amazing. I generally spent more on single mechanical pencil or regular pencil portraits than how much you spent on these paintings. I have such a long way to go, but the progress feels really nice! Incredible work as always!
I also have been doing an oil painting sketchbook i got motivated by seeing you and al pay do it so i said to myself why not give it a shot. Great job though love all the paintings
You are absolutely correct, Slew. This is a very personal expression of your soul. Tfs. I find your self critiques honest. Not self deprivating. I always enjoy your detailed thoughts of whatever the topic. Certainly your short but specific techniques & detailed information always draws me in. Request: do a portrait demonstration with red as the base color. Then, of course, all the details of the layers to finish. It is the layering that I am mostly interested. But the whole process start to finish makes me & my brain want more. The oil in the oil paint has historically hurt my senses to the point of me needing to shut down from hours to days. Aka: environmental distress. When I do paint, it is with acrylics. And, my style is abstract. I can't help it, Slew. You are an inspiration for me to want to learn more. Thank you, Slew. Stay blessed.
Hullo, I found out that I was allergic to the solvents when painting with oil paints! I have purchased several different brands of water soluble oil paints and I use the soluble mediums and soap and water for cleaning up! You might give it a try, if you truly want to work with oils again! I am also a fan of Chelsea Lavender products they are just amazing!
If you have not done so then please make the switch to a lead white(Rublev or Ohld Holland) or Gamblin's Flake white replacement. It is a no brainer way to not worry about the chalky aspect of other whites. Tran Red Oxide and lead white is a terrific combo. As usual great job on the videos.
SLEW, I am eagerly awaiting the print package from the Artists in Wonderland that you went to Michigan to create, I am also curious about your videos soon to appear? I am curious about the paper that your book is made of? I have used Arches oil pad and I did not use gesso on every painting, is that the paper in this book? Is the gesso because it is watercolor paper and gesso is mandatory? To keep the oil paint from destroying the surface? I am truly happy for you and your progress as I have been watching and rooting for you and your future works! Please keep creating and sharing your art journey as well as your studio SLEW experiment!
I love/hate that show. Good for people who paint fast. Terrible for people who don't. The judges seem to have picked a winner before the paintings are finished. When the finalists are picked the judges ask the artists to experiment and then shit on the artist when the judges shitty ideas don't work for the artist. I find the whole thing insulting to the artists but I love the first few episodes of every season when you see a bunch of artists and their processes
Your an inspiration to many of people. My daughter and I love to watch your videos while coloring and painting.
Take a bow sir! This sketchbook should be a prized possession 👊🏾
Thanks brotha !
Love the sketchbook tours. It is where you really get to know the artist.
This was so dope to look back on some of my favorite videos youve done! Thats a hell of a sketchbook my friend!!!
I’ve watched you come a long ways over the past few years, you’re a good painter. I enjoy your videos, thanks for posting

Amazing sketchbook
You should oil paint your favorite sculpture. Or an alligator. Also, I love that Yoda painting.

Cesar Santos uses a sketchbook for his oil paintings.

Hermoso tu trabajo ,oye que material o papel está hecho tu libro de skech por favor de que papel
How long do you leave the page open to dry? Always figured oil takes too lomg to dry to live in a sketch book..
Yeah it does take a while sometimes. Between 1-3 days
I really think you should apply to portrait artist of the year in the UK.
