There is no reason to date a bar girl. Finding a "regular" girl is not hard, even if you are on vacation. How? Go online 2-3 months before your arrival. You'll be shocked at how much interest you'll get. Be honest about what you are looking for. Most of the "good" girls seek serious relationships. I think men, particularly older ones, appreciate a bargirl who is able to let you believe that they're enjoying themselves with you sexually even if you aren't in your prime (not that it'd be any different with a young man necessarily). A customer will appreciate being 'liked' personally--there's no difference between a flight attendant's friendly attention or a waitress laughing at your jokes...it's just the tip and service fee are different. When I'm laughing with some bargirl in Thailand or even here in the Philippines, I know I'm 'fun' and 'charming' so a couple of hours with me is not an egregious experience...but past the lady drinks and good chatting fun, I am always straightforward with them and give them a nice tip for having spent their time with me. Yeah, I know--it's their job...but there's no payoff for them with me for time spent with a walk to the nearby hotel--so I always leave a tip at the end. It's not as much as for their full services, but it's fair.

I've been going to Pattaya for nearly 20 yrs. I have always found Girls / Freelancers on the streets, Beach Rd (Coconut Bar) I have never had a problem. I make sure they have all Id cards, check them in @ your hotel. No Id cards etc then no girl. Never go to a short time room of their choosing unless you have someone with you to hold your phone, money etc. I very rarely get a Girl from a Bar. I rarely go to Walking St or Soi 6. I like the Soi Buakhao, LK Metro, Soi Pothole area's.
If I were still in the game, I would not choose a freelancer.

Very good report as usual. The "monthly" pay bar girls get is usually a series of 10 day contracts they call "tags". I have no idea where the word "tag" comes from but many use that phrase. SO they might get 8,000 baht for selling 50 drinks in 10 days as a bonus. Plus 50 bat per drink. Some live at the bar if there are rooms upstairs for free during their tag.

Dude. Either go to a soapy massage parlor or Cafe Thermae. An hour for a soapy massage will cost about $74 for a regular room and it is full service. As soon as you decide on the type of room a ton of girls for you to choose will line up for you to chose one of them (or two if you pay for it). Cafe Thermae is good if you want to take a girl back to your room, but she will probably cost just a little bit more at (around $81) for an hour. Don't choose the same girl twice.
If you go to a soapy massage parlor, you shouldn't have any worries about your money/wallet. If you take a girl back to your hotel room, ALWAYS have your valuables (anything you consider valuable) in the hotel safe and when your girl goes into the shower, go ahead an put your wallet in the safe too and don't take it out until she goes back into the shower to clean up.

I remember my first year in Los Angeles , Ca . USA. Dance halls with Mexican ,Chicana and Latina girls were everywhere. To this day not one hispanic can point out the difference between the three. Anyhow these dance halls were packed full of girls. To dance with them you had to buy tickets which were 50 cents for a minute. I am sure there are many bar girls in Thailand that would like to have a real relationship, and a normal job.
However… due to circumstances beyond their control, such as lack of education, and/or family responsibilities, they must work doing what they can to make money.
I actually had a relationship with a bar girl when I first arrived in Thailand.
While we did have sex, I never paid for it. I would however buy her food and coffee in the mornings.
You are correct, I doubt they graduated high school with the dream of becoming a bar girl (well some may have).
It is what they have chosen for a job. 7-11 workers probably make 9-10k per month.
I can see what lures these girls into the bar scene at a young age.
Once they realize that is not the job they really wanted, it is already too late.

Unfortunately some realise that with there limited opportunities, the money they can as a prostitute , with other dubious income streams such as sponsorship from several people is better than being in a normal relationship

According to my research, many bars require the girls to be tested regularly for STDs, this is not true for freelancers.

And yes freelancers are a mix of those who can't or shouldn't work in the bars due to their disease carrying status, but also ladies after a bit of extra cash. It really is a lottery and one I am not prepared to play. I avoid all freelancers personally.

However, I think the vast majority of them are in the 30-50K range, which is still attractive compensation for an uneducated girl whose alternative is an 8K factory job in Isaan, or 10-15K in a dead-end job in BKK. But most of these women have a kid at home being raised by grandma, so they need the money.
Many of the girls are looking for a good husband, and a usual precursor to this has the man return to his country and pay her money monthly to 'reserve' her, as it were. He'll return, perhaps many times, as the relationship progresses.
Some girls maintain several such men who are unaware of the others, having been convinced that they're the only one. A big giveaway is her unavailability when you expect to be able to have exclusive access, and get your money's worth.
Although such deceptions can be highly lucrative for a girl, many - most - must support their children after the father has abandoned them, and their entire extended family may be relying on their income. Additionally, it's unlikely they'll ever be able to save money, or even have it occur to them to ferret any away for a rainy day!

You are out of touch with the current prices for bar fines in Pattaya. The prices for bar fines have increased dramatically since COVID finished. I've seen bar fines alone of 2,000 Baht - and - even HIGHER on Walking Street and in LK Metro! In addition to that - some girls are asking for 5,000 Baht for SHORT TIME!!
