@@AltoStratusX1I find that compelling from a characterization standpoint, though. The Emperor's Children are all a bunch of idiotic, drug addled, high and mighty ravagers, they're too entrenched in the present moment to care about improving. @@andyroobrick-a-brack9355sometimes the most hated characters are rhe best written, because they were intended to spark hate and succeed tremendously. Erebus and Lucius are prime examples. Oh, i am late to notice this one, thanks Rem. The Emperor's Children died with Istvaan III tho tbh, these chaos marines are just Fulgrim's Failures at this point (they seem to be content in the warp tho, where are they in the current setting?)
So what if a Necron Deathmark shoots Lucius? Deathmarks can't feel anything, and they're definitely capable of killing Astartes. Even if the soulless assassin felt something, can Lucius even regrow from a necrodermis body?
It's a possibility that they could still end up becoming Lucius, but even if they don't, there's other shenanigans at play because Slaanesh likes their playthings. So long as they haven't gotten bored of him, he'll come back. Might go up a level to whatever created the deathmark, or whoever placed the hunter's mark on Lucius. Even if they don't feel pride, any minute sense of satisfaction could potentially work. The only real limit is just whoever is writing the scene. A potential scenario could be something like having loyalist, chaos, and Necron forces all on the same world, with Lucius fighting alongside chaos marines. Loyalist astartes needs a way to kill Lucius, comes up with the idea of luring him into the sights of a group of Deathmarks who for some reason have been dispatched by their Nemesor to clean up any groups of astartes that get separated. One lands a killing shot on Lucius. The marine that came up with the plan feels a small amount of relief that the plan worked, evening the odds a bit, only to be the seed that Lucius then comes back from. Or the Nemesor that ordered the Deathmarks out is watching the ongoing fights and, having viewed the marine forces as honorable in some way, feels pride not necessarily in the Deathmarks themselves but rather in the superiority of Necrons over their adversaries. That could possibly be enough for Lucius to come back from. And, even if all that doesn't work, all it takes is Slaanesh deciding to just bring him back anyway in some other manner. Could say that he stays dead for a few centuries until another cocky swordslinger comes along and performs a feat that would be worthy of Slaanesh's attention. They're given the Laer Blade which sends them down a path of fast corruption and Lucius is reborn once again like the undying cockroach that he is.
