That dreamy, transcendent sound, somewhere between melancholy and triumphant - is why I love Drab Majesty. Their music is retro but not cheesy. Familiar in the way of nostalgia but still unique. This is some of the best 80s-revival music I've ever heard.
"Somewhere between melancholy and triumphant". Drab Majesty is my band of 2019, and your brilliantly worded statement is why. That's exactly the kind of year I've had. Drab Majesty is so fucking intelligent. I fucking love them. Thanks for posting. Well done, sir.
Sorry, but this has nothing to do with "Goth". Goth man still found refuge in a "God". The theme of the song deals with an adverse posture in relation to the divinity: the disappointment with all the divine precepts. "We couldn't love but you paired us together to walk hand in hand the irony We couldn't make this world ours..."
@@Xapiro To me, it has the same undertones of living a lonely life of pain with the human condition, their acknowledgement of God, and their acknowledgement of their own worth as a human being/ soul; similar to songs like, "Hello, My Name Is Human" by Highly Suspect (theirs and Drab Majesty come across as wanting respect), and, "Once In A Lifetime" by Wolfsheim (he wants respect in the form of dignity, as he is about to take his own life). "You" = God in "Not Just A Name" and "Once In A Lifetime". Other than that, I'd say contemplating human existence and your relationship with life, death, the afterlife, and the divine are essentially Goth themed in my eyes; as a person who has interests in the Gothic Subculture. Side note if you want to check them out: Two songs that seem to be along the theme of spiritual traps & their perception of reality are, "Tricks" by OhGr, and, "Gimmicks" by File Not Found.
@@Zelphraeya Perhaps, first, we would have to define what we mean by "gothic", in order to reach a consensus. Before the Gothic subculture in Modernity, Meroveu, leader of the Franks, already used the word to differentiate himself from the Romans. "Gothic" comes from "Goth", a generic name for the barbarian tribes north of the Roman Empire.
Idk why but this song makes me so very sad, the melody and the music, the lyrics. I cannot help but cry whenever I hear it. I know it’s about heavens gate members but i also interpret it as people in this world that are lost, alone, scared to love, scared to be loved, feeling unworthy and just wanting anyone to connect with. To just feel alive instead of feeling alone and adrift in a world that doesn’t care. This song is very dear to me.
Keep coming to this over and over. After 31 years of life, two years ago I discovered Drab Majesty accidentally and I will say they are one of my favorite bands by a longshot.
The part that begins @ 4.57 is one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard in my entire life, and then the keyboard slowly creeps in. It's like magic just fell onto the Earth in the form of Drab Majesty!
@Fabian Failla What has pointing out the part @4.57 got to do with being a 'snowflake' except for Deftones being better, in your opinion? Ps i also like Deftones, but you really do sound like you're about 12 years old 😂
I consider this song one of the most beautiful ones in the last decade. I feel transported to another place, another time. Love and more love to these peculiar and talented guys.
One of my favorite bands and I just find the DIY theatrics so endearing. Some people I've showed them too scoff at their aesthetic and can't get past it, but it adds so much during their performances. It turns them into these strange, otherworldly characters that playing live in jeans and a t-shirt will never accomplish.
I find their aesthetics a bit too DIY, these costumes are not very good... It wants to be stylish but... fails imo. The music's great and the whole thing could be so much better if those costumes were taken more seriously.
I think their outfits hit the right note between "whoa, those are distracting" and "meh, they look like me". Just enough to set them apart without being obnoxious.
Everything they do exists in a place between chaos and order such that evolution can occur, a concept in math known as criticality. That's why I love them, they hit that golden ratio perfectly, and a glimpse of heaven slips through their work.
Drab Majesty is the heroine of the music world. Each hit just keeps taking you deeper and deeper into the void. Time standing still. Existing without existing. Beauty beyond conscious recognition.
Drab Majesty is definitely one of the best groups out there right now. Deb Demure is an artistic genius and Mona D complements him in a perfect way. I’ve seen these guys 2x they never fail me to amaze me. I wish more people could appreciate beautiful music like this.
I try to introduce different artists to my circle of "friends" but they all think I have a weird taste in music. Can't really relate to anyone I know. Often feel like I'm not supposed to be on this planet
Best band, I have seen in a long day. I have only be listening to them, Twin Tribes, Cold Cave, and She Past Away. Certainly getting me over the hump at the end of 2010s and beginning of 2020s.
One of my fav songs forever. It’s so beautiful, it brings me to tears. This song top tier ❤️ I always blast it in my car or without headphones is a tragedy to not hear all the nuances of the song.
Literally my first thought on hearing Drab Majesty for the first time. Look up the Modern Mirror Institute. There's a toll free number that they distributed during the Modern Mirror tour and the number is still active. I call it often.
I just came back to add, can we please take a moment to appreciate the videographer while I'm at it? Like, the absolutely gorgeous shots this person captured. We all hoped to be finding a light
We were alone on the Earth
Searching for someone alike
Your words made sense
In the truth you possessed
Believing the call of our kind
Would be fine if we were
Divinely blessed
Took ahold of our souls just to
Make us the same
Called me something I wasn't
It's not just a name
Take your time taking minds
Just to stay in the game
Made me someone I wasn't
It's not just a name
We couldn't love but you paired us together
To walk hand in hand
The irony
We couldn't make this world ours
Because it wasn't part of the plan
Why do we do like you?
Why do we do like you?
