your hair is beautiful! Your examples of the 2nd type of "knot" is actually bunching. It's a natural & normal part of the locking process, and very common with two-strand twist locs, especially with curlier & softer textures. Braiding & banding can help minimize how much it happens but it can't really be completely avoided. As your locs mature the shape & size of your locs will change including the areas that experience bunching. Shrinkage is also part of the natural locking process. Locs compact & develop an inner matrix as they mature. It causes them to frizz, expand and shrink before they really start to show length. It's all part of the process 🙂
In my experience, I have noticed that the grid mostly matters when someone just get their locs done(approx. Less than 18 months). Overtime you don't pay much attention to it, instead you focus more on the health of your loc. I think your locs are amazing no matter what.
this is random but I can not tell you how nice it is that you talk in your natural voice and not that sing song RUclips video voice most people do. It drives me crazy 😂 great video
My grid is jacked up, but I did my best. I refuse to start over so I’m going to just let it do what it do and see what happens. If I ever start again, I’m going to fork out them dollars and let someone else do it. Hopefully, I’ll fall in love with my hair as is because I really like that I did it myself and take care of it myself.
Wow, I really appreciate your effort to expose your mistakes to save your followers some trouble. I have been on the line about micro interlocking the whole shaft which will be time consuming or to micro twists which will be fast. But with the amount that you warned about the slippage, I think I’m going to just go hard or go home and interlock the whole shaft. Thank you so much dear
Thank you for being so honest about your mishaps on your lock journey! Many youtubers have very polished locs and only tell you about what goes wrong offscreen. Your demonstrations and detailed explainations on what went wrong and what you learned will save a lot of us the shock!
My sister bleached and dyed her entire hair the same colour as yours. It ended up breaking and damaged ( I don't think she kept it moisturized enough). After seeing the effects on her hair, I never bleach my hair, just dyed with black dye. After a several years of dying my hair ( once or twice a year) with 1 B color. My loctician said I should stop using it as she thinks it contributes to my roots thinning. I research for natural alternative to black dyes and I'm considering using Henna and Indigo combination (Henna Guys) or Jagua . I also stated taking Mary Ann Ruth Morning Vitamin ( I take it in the nights right before bed though because it helps me to stay up when I wake up to study at 2a) to help with the thinning. Thank you for doing this video to show what not to do. It was really informative.
Really really appreciate the realness! You right, it's difficult for a lot of us to admit the stuff we do wrong in this process... There's that pressure of being the perfect DIYer.
Thank you so much for your transparency! It is quite courageous of you to put yourself out here like this! I did DIY braidlocs and I've been locked for about 1.5 years. You are right, there is ALOT of patience needed. My ends unraveled a bit and were curly. I really like the look but the parts of my hair that was curlier were more likely to bunch. 2 mistakes I made: 1) Coloring my hair too soon. I've been coloring my hair for over a decade but it affected my locs by loosening the curl pattern a bit. It is not drastic but the chemicals do that (at least temporarily) to all hair. Because my locs weren't mature enough, it caused slippage and eventual bunching on the ends. I combed out the ends and twisted then OR interlocked them to meet the braided part. 2) I didn't braid & band enough when I washed and I got the same issues occuring as my first mistake. I remedied it the same way. Thanks again for your tips! It is a process and I am learning as I go along. One of the things more mature locked queens tell me all the time is to moisturize my hair with water in th morning. I am doing that more and more and it is really helping. ✌🏾

My grid is messed up, I split my locs, started with 103, now have 240. I honestly didn't make sure the new parts were anything. Ultimately I'm just looking forward to the journey. Great information! I have thinner hair in the front as well, but still loving it!

@@MisskiajLocdandloaded you gave really helpful tips!!Now I understand why I have a few knots. I just did my first retie. Used a needle and undid it. Thank God I stopped once I noticed the knot!!
Its best to moisturize in the morning so your hair can air dry throughout the day and not become mildewy from being damp with a scarf or bonnet on overnight to often. Great videos and advice! I've had my micro locs done and maintained by a professional loctician up until this Covid-19 stuff. Now I'm thinking I need to retighten them myself until I can get back to her. Your videos have been helpful and encouraging.
Thanks so much for your feedback, I need it girl. Thanks for watching and I will do my spraying in mornings only...maybe coconut oil at night!!! Awesome advice for us all.
I have found that when loose hairs tangle with another loc and you pull that hair out of the loc sometimes that will cause bunching on the loc the hair was pulled from. I hope that makes sense. One RUclipsr advises just cut the strands of hair and not pull them out to reduce the bunching. This usually happens with 2 strand twist starter locs. If you spritz the loc with water and pull gently but firmly sometimes you can smooth out the twist or bunched up strands. I prefer to pull the sterands out of the loc rather than cut them even if I end up with some bunching. New subscriber!

New subbie I just did my microlocs it took 9 days because my hair is so dense. My grid is all of the place 😂🤣 but my parts are neat. I have a V shape undercut with my sides shaved so 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️.
I imagine that tightening is probably very satisfying, but doing it loose, (don’t know, never done it before) is probably important for health. I say this because I just started my traditional loc journey and in my research I noticed that a lot of people have widened parts. I purposefully made my sections small so that I don’t have to pull hair from too far to make a section, thereby pulling out the peripheral strands over time while tightening, and widening the parts, and causing thinning.
New sub! Thanks for the info about sticking with the grid even though you have fine hair because I can totally see myself making the same decision.
