MY MAN YOU SAVED MY LIFE. Im sorry i didnt tell you sooner. I was suffering for about eight months. I could BARELY walk. I was in excruitaing pain every time i urinated. I was diagnosed with IC. I took D-Mannose which helped alot but not completly. Then i took MAGNESIUM CITRATE for a couple weeks and i was CURED! Ive been cured for years, thanks to you. I thought i was gunna be disabled for the rest of my life. I believe I got IC when i took antibiotics for a UTI. The antiboiotics KILLED the guys that kill extra oxalates. So i wouldnt personally suggest cutting out oxalates but reintroducing the specific probiotics that get rid of them.

See Sally Norton’s work on oxalates. And, especially, the phenomenon of “oxalate dumping”. Removing them from the diet is a good idea, but, in some cases, it might need to be done gradually, to prevent dumping of accumulated oxalates.

Yes, I wish I had known this sooner. Went full on carnivore 11 months ago and I’m now struggling with awful bladder pain. Two courses of antibiotics and no better, then I learned of Oxalate Dumping from EO Nutrition and Sally Norton. I just ordered a bunch of supplements and added a bit of Oxalate foods back in to try and slow the dumping. 😢 I Pray it doesn’t take much longer to stop it, it’s so painful.

I believe oxalate in the tissues is a sign of gut damage, if it didn't happen before. Many have damaged gut without realising (it manifest as depression and mental health issues). I get most relief when I cut out all plants completely and eat only animal products and consuming probiotic foods throughout the day. I know that's not realistic for most. My 8-year battle with debilitating interstitial cystitis has finally been relieved by going carnivore from what turns out was a very high oxalate WFPB vegan diet that I was told was “healthy”. Now I’ve quit all oxalates, I had a horrible couple of days of dumping which was like peeing shards of glass, thankfully that has subsided with a glass of water with half a lemon squeezed into it with a 1/4 tsp each of magnesium crystals, cream of tartar (potassium) and pink salt, but now 6 weeks into carnivore I’m getting scabby sores on my scalp with yellow crystals in them! This video, although hypothetical in nature, is still one of your best. By now, there are a growing number of trained experts in the Medical Health/Nutrition space that bring awareness to the main issues surrounding oxalate- explaining plant-seed toxicity and what are the 'toxic superfoods' extremely high in oxalate [to quote our beloved Sally K. Norton], but those of us that have suffered greatly due to oxalate dumping and its still unknown, myriad pathologies, we welcome any theories that may help to explain what may be going on specifically in an organ or specific tissue. Based upon growing anecdotal evidence, we know about the boils, the rashes, and what to expect in our urine or stools, but what you've provided here are possibilities about specific issues and why certain supplements might curtail them- such as the supplementation of mineral citrates to improve bladder function. Possible answers to common issues are far better than suffering in complete mystery. Thank you, Elliot.

I've been an ovo-lacto vegetarian for about 25 years, but have moved further away from dairy and eggs over the last several years. I got my first known UTI over two weeks ago and the onset was quick and severe. I was prescribed a 5-day supply of antibiotics which I had extended to 10 days. On day 13, after having been off for just 3 days, the UTI exploded again. I just started severely cutting back on oxalate intake and hope with the supplements, this can be rid of. I have no risk factors that would explain this resistance (recent CT scan showed nothing...thinking crystals alone may not be visible?) Thanks again.

Could you please explain the data showing the beneficial effects of so many oxalate containing foods (turmeric, green tea, etc) and how that plays against their harmful effects? Is there a way to get the beneficial effects while protecting from their detriment? Are there certain SNPs that are more predisposed to benefit/harm?

    • @Jefferdaughter
      @Jefferdaughter 5 лет назад +6

An interesting question. I do not have the answer, but I have heard that the benefits of turmeric can be obtained via infusions or tinctures, while avoiding most of the oxalate content, but I have no references to hand for this.
Regarding the benefits of green tea and turmeric, the anti-inflamatory and anti--oxidant properties, and possibly cancer prevention, etc- these benefits may be available simply by avoiding sugar, including high-sugar fruits, and starches- which are made of sugar molecules linked together.
Sugars and starches tend to increase inflammation, independent of oxalate content. Research by Phinney and Volek has shown that when the body 'burns fat' instead of sugar for energy, their is significantly less oxidative stress, reducing the need for anti-oxidants.
Meats, both muscle and organ meats, contain more anti-oxidants than we have been taught, including Vit C (overcooking should be avoided).
Unprocessed milk contains ALL the known vitamins, plus probiotics, immune factors, beneficial enzymes, and all the minerals we need- in the forms readily absorbed and used by the human body. Meat, Milk and milk products from animals on an all-forage diet (100% grassfed) contain significant amounts- of Omega 3 fatty acids, and in the correct forms to meet human dietary needs. According to Dr. Paul Mason, these sources can replace fish, but plant sources of Omega 3s are in the wrong form.
Processing milk damages or destroys much of the nutrient content in milk, and changes the protein, which can cause issues for some people. Others are sensitive to the A! casein mutation found in the milk of some cows (but not sheep, goats, or the 5 or 6 other species regularly used for milk, or in human milk).
For those who are interested in doing this, a well-formulated ketogenic diet (Dr. Stephen Phinney, MD PhD and Jeff Volek, PhD) reduces the need for 'rescue' foods, and provides more beneficial nutrients than we have been led to believe.
Keep in mind that most of the fruits we commonly find in supermarkets have significantly higher levels of sugar than their wild counterparts. Bananas contain approximately 7 teaspoons of sugar, per banana. Grapes and apples are among other fruits which are much higher in sugar than wild fruit.
And our ancestors did not have access to fruits from around the world available 365 days a year.
If you find out more about how to get the benefits of things like turmeric and green tea while avoiding the oxalates, hopefully you will share the info!

    TLDR
Reducing oxalate intake in the diet could potentially lead to improvements in urinary tract infections, bladder pain, frequent urination, and interstitial cystitis. Oxalate may contribute to these issues by causing irritation, inflammation, and providing a habitat for bacteria.
    - **Oxalate's Role in Health Issues:**
    - Oxalate might lead to bladder pain and interstitial cystitis by causing local irritation and inflammation.
    - Oxalate crystals can adhere to tissue, binding with epithelial cells, causing stress and potentially depleting local immunity.
    - Certain bacteria, like E. coli, can aggregate around calcium oxalate crystals, possibly connecting oxalate to chronic urinary tract infections unresponsive to antibiotics.
    - **Effects of Oxalate on the Body:**
    - Oxalate's negative effects include cellular problems and tissue stress upon contact.
    - Anecdotal evidence suggests benefits of low oxalate diets for urinary issues, supported by testimonials in online communities.
    - **Oxalate in Urinary Tract:**
    - Oxalate is absorbed into the bloodstream, goes to the kidneys, and should ideally pass out through urine.
    - Oxalate crystals can deposit in kidneys or bladder, contributing to bladder calculi formation.
    - Calcium oxalate crystals can adhere to epithelial cells in the bladder, causing inflammation and oxidative stress, which might contribute to interstitial cystitis symptoms.
    - **Oxalate and Chronic UTIs:**
    - Examining urinary tract tissue health is crucial in addressing chronic urinary tract infections.
    - Oxalate might deplete resources, compromising local immunity and fostering an environment for bacteria.
    - E. coli has been observed to selectively aggregate around calcium oxalate crystals, potentially sustaining infection.
    - **Urinary Alkalizes and Oxalate:**
    - Urinary alkalizes like magnesium and potassium citrate can help alleviate urinary tract infection symptoms.
    - Alkalization might reduce inflammation by dissolving adhered oxalate crystals and removing bacterial habitats.
    - Reduction of oxalate in the diet and use of urinary alkalizes might contribute to improvements in chronic UTIs and interstitial cystitis.
    - **Calcium Oxalate and Interstitial Cystitis:**
    - Calcium oxalate may adhere to the bladder, causing irritation and inflammation, potentially worsening interstitial cystitis symptoms.
    - Many individuals experience relief in interstitial cystitis symptoms by reducing oxalate intake in their diets.
    - **Urinary Alkalizes and Oxalate Crystals:**
    - Urinary alkalizes' benefits might stem from reducing inflammation and dissolving calcium oxalate crystals.
    - By dissolving crystals, urinary alkalizes might eliminate bacterial habitats, aiding in treating chronic UTIs.
    - **Recommendation:**
    - For cases of chronic UTIs unresponsive to antibiotics, considering the role of oxalate might be beneficial.

    - **Conclusion:**

So is taking some calcium citrate with something high in oxalates a good or bad idea? I'm pretty much carnivore but the one thing I'm having a hard time giving up (besides coffee) is my Theo 70% salted dark chocolate. I eat three or four squares with my coffee every day. :( I'm looking for a way to counter the oxalates. I was gonna just buy some mag citrate powder but apparently all the manufacturers including Now have changed their formula from 1:1 to 3:2 so it's not a true mag citrate and it doesn't desolve in water very well and tastes like crap.

My favourite is President salted butter, the French butter is so creamy!

Absolutely. I see it myself routinely. Almost 100% of patients complaining of incontinence have it. It looks like red leaking irritated little blood vessels that have proliferated in the bladder wall, and they have trabeculations, little ridges of scar tissue from the incoordination of smooth muscle contractions that make the bladder and urethra fight against each other to urinate.

I have a list that I think was made through harvard, and it says that kale, and coffee are pretty low oxalate content, but i noticed in your video with Bart Kay that you had mentioned kale was high oxalate content. So I'm wondering if mayne you have better research to reference than I do. I'm trying my best to do a low oxalate diet, but im not totally sure if my source is accurate. Thanks!

The weird thing is that I think oxalates dont leave the body through urine in crystal shapes. If so what to do about it, seems that the only person in the world who knows about this is Susan Owens, that smell like business. If u have bladder calculate, u would be not just irritated, but bleeding, and not being able to pee correctly, so to have just irritation or inflammation sounds not very convincing.
