As a Mexican, we've ALWAYS rinsed the tomatillos after removing the husks. They tend to be quite sticky and so they naturally have dirt stuck to them. Also, they'd taste better if you had a comal (griddle) and charred all the veggies, turning with tongs. 😉 We use a cast iron griddle. If you feel chile peppers are too spicy to eat, you can lessen the heat by removing the seeds and veins. Don't touch face after doing this! You can use kitchen gloves for this and it's easy if you use a spoon to remove the seeds and veins.
I’m pretty sure she rinsed everything prior to making the video. To each their own. I normally rinse them after removing the husk but my mom soaks them for 15 mins so it doesn’t make a difference as long as the ingredient are clean.
I love green salsa chicken. I make taquitos, I also put it on top of rice but I add black beans to it. You can also put it on tostadas with refried beans. Enchiladas or chilaquiles with an egg and queso fresco for breakfast. Love your videos!
I made this recipe and it was delicious. I made verde sauce from scratch. The first night we had it with refried beans and tortillas. the second night over jasmine rice topped with chopped white onion and cilantro. I still have enough for 2 more meals for 2 people. YUM!
Lisa thank you so much for this recipe!! I'm not a fan of salsa verde. I decided to swap out the tomatillos for 5 pablano peppers. To caramelize the onion, I cut the ends off of it and placed it in the oven with the pablanos, garlic, and serrano pepper. After the onion had cooled, I then cut it into smaller pieces before placing into the blender. I had thick large pieces of chicken so I cooked my chicken for four hours on high in the slow cooker. For the last hour, I added a cup of sour cream. This shreedeed chicken recipe came out so delicious! It will be a staple for me. I'm excited to try chipotle chilies with your base recipe next!! So all the same ingredients, except I'll do the chipotle chilies. Keep these great slow cooker and oven baked recipes coming. Thank you for the inspiration as well!
Yes ma’am, Serranos all the way. I always buy my serranos “painted” or with an orange or yellow tinge for more heat. Lightweights avoid any “painted” pepper 🥵. I’m trying this method of cooking my tomatillos, I usually just boil them. I’m having guests this week and this was so helpful in planning our meals. I’m going with tostadas 😋. Thanks for the inspiration. 😊
I made this with the homemade Salsa Verde and it was very good. I added a bit more lime and some Dan-Os Original seasoning but it absolutely could be enjoyed per the standard recipe. Ill certainly make it again and look forward to trying more of your recipes.
....When you add Refried Beans to Salsa Verde ... you have an amazing Dip for Homemade Tortilla Chips, or as a way to add flavour to other foods, such as Tacos, Chalupas, etc.
Yum this looks delicious and very easy a diffenite try this week thank you for all you do and your tips on how you can get more use of the recipes have a great day Blessings
I will cook that today for sure 😊😊😊 salsa verde is my best condiment 😊😊😊 they way you plate it at the end both ways look really yummy 😋 😋😋 thank you for the recipe keep them coming and happy new year!
@@Downshiftology I know I will for sure all your ingredients are great and healthy!!! Do you have a recipe for your tortillas? I would love to try them 😋
You can make a burrito with rice and beans with the meat you can also serve it with mexican rice instead of white rice with whatever beans you like or a salad on the side .
If you are reading this there’s a reason……No matter how good or bad you have it,wake up day thankful for your life.Someone somewhere else is desperately fighting for theirs ❤️🇧🇸
Thank you so much for this recipe. I will definitely make your salsa Verde. I am tired of buying and eating processed foods. I would appreciate it so much, if you would make more slow cooker recipes, so many RUclips recipes use those glutinous soups, condensed, yuck. Thank you very much.
Would love to try home made version, but tomatillos just do not exist in shops where I live. Canned sometimes are available, but never tried it, so if I am in mood for salsa verdee, I buy it online and even that is hard to get hands on 😞 But this looks like something I may make for my hiking trips!
Unfortunately, tomatillos are the main ingredient for salsa verde. But, you could try this recipe with my blended red salsa here: downshiftology.com/recipes/best-salsa-recipe/
Do you have a Ninja Foodi pressure-cook version of this recipe? Anyone? I have several slowcookers - but I'm trying to do more versatile recipes since I got a multi-cooker last Christmas.
🙂🙂👍Incredible Job! 🙂 Stay blessed! 👍 Keep it up! 🙂 God bless you abundantly forever 🙂 Enjoy amazingly blessed life 🙂 Stay happy and well protected. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024! 🙂💐🥧🍬🍩🍪🎂🎂☃🎁🎉🎍👍👀🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Hi there, the tomatillos are the main ingredient for salsa verde. But, you could make a red sauce instead and use this recipe: downshiftology.com/recipes/best-salsa-recipe/
What else would you make with this shredded chicken? Share your ideas below! xo - Lisa
Chicken Burritos
I'm a spice type of girl, so I probably would add some more kinds of them, and probably even include Sriracha if I have it.
I'm definitely going to try the homemade salsa Verde. Looks very easy and incredibly flavorful. 😊
Oh and yes, chicken nachos 🤤
Refried beans.

Which brand did you use from Trader Joe's? Is there only one brand? What is it called?
I am so making this, this week!! Yum!!!
Gonna make this on Saturday!! 😋😄
Would the Vitamix work vs the food processor? Can we freeze it, if we've added the sour cream? The sour cream looks like a must add! Delicious!

Any sugestions onhow to cook the checken without a slow cooker?

I saw the video on how to cut Zucchini noodles. Did you have one on how to cook them?
Must make this week, I would put it in some Pasta 🐚 topped with 3 😂🧀
Sounds delicious! Can't wait to see how that turns out.
Thanks.
Looks great! Can I start from frozen chicken instead?
You can use frozen chicken breasts, just make sure to thaw them first!
Can you please show us how to make soups for winter?
Of course! I also have tons more ideas here: downshiftology.com/courses/soups-stews/

Happy new year to you as well!
Anything i can use instead of tomatillos?😅 i can't get them anywhere
Just buy the store version of salsa verde. It works.
@@rachelparmater892 don't have that either. It's not a common thing in Europe
Will this recipe work with an instant pot?
Can you make this recipe on a regular pot ?
I have never seen Tometinos (if that is how you spell it :) ) in the UK , can you use anything else ??

Lisa, this is off topic, but could you show us some good dishes for Superbowl weekend, which is not until February 11th or 12th, I think.
Hi Helen! I've got some delicious ideas here: downshiftology.com/healthy-super-bowl-recipes/
Looks good. Will you cook for me sometime? 😂
Love your recipes, shame I'm nightshade free 😔
Stuff some of that chicken in a red bell pepper, top with cheese and bake!
If you have a hand mixer, could you just shred the chicken in the crockpot?
Guys? Girl here😊
I'm really sad that I can't have this because I'm allergic to cilantro 😢😢😢
Do you have a taco seasoning for chicken?

You’re supposed to wash the sticky substance off the tomatillos after you remove the husk. 😅
Is there a substitute for tomatillas? We don't have them in my country.
Hi there, the tomatillos are the main ingredient for salsa verde. But, you could make a red sauce instead and use this recipe: downshiftology.com/recipes/best-salsa-recipe/
Do you add sour cream to the mixture for tacos only?
You just answered my question in the video 😂
Haha! The sour cream version is SO good by the way 😉
