Mr. Portnoy playing with the back end of the 747 ProMark drums stick... perfection is in the details !! That is REALLY a high level of respect to The Professor!
He used this kit when he did a Rush cover project called Cygnus and the Sea Monsters. It was a one-off show in Chicago. He’s also done one for The Who (with a replica Keith Moon set) called Amazing Journey, a Led Zeppelin tribute band called Hammer of the Gods, and a Beatles tribute band called Yellow Matter Custard.
Guys, thank you SO much. You're all monster players. All of us out here continue to be starved RUSH fans. We simply can't get enough of their music. If you haven't already done so ~~ please feel free (LOL...) to record more.... Again; thank you so much............... Dave (Pittsburgh Pa.)
yeah but Portnoy and maybe the others, don't really know them, but at least Portnoy has probably created more memorable and technical songs than Rush. Really most people only know xyz and tom sawyer. They had some classics but can't really sell portnoy short either.
Holy buckets! You all NAILED it. What a great set of musicians, everyone dead on and seamless as hell. Paulie, you're an awesome axe player, didn't know that, going to watch some more of your stuff!
This is Paulie from ZO2,. I saw them open for Life of Agony, i believe. They were incredible. A 3 piece band with great harmony vocals. Great to see this stuff
Great cover !!! I´m a bass player and used to listen to Stu Hamm solo albums a lot during early 90´s. As a huge Rush fan I remember when saw a Rush Covers album called "Working Man" (1997). I "discovered" a lot of unknown musicians (to me) that played their songs in that album. One of them was "YYZ" and the rhythm section was no other than Stu Hamm and Mike Portnoy (which I´ve never heard of). Great to see them playing this again 23 years later.
Thank You so much for sharing this with us! You are all such eminent musicians and thank You Paulie Z for keeping the memory of your Dear Brother going forward. Now, who has time to rub the heads of Beatle toys during an intensive performance!? Okay, I understand. Beautiful work!
Oh, some of the most amazing musicians doing YYZ, and making it alive! Well done. Thank You, Paulie Z for sharing this beautiful creation. Also, your work with Yoyoka is also incredible. Best, Mark
I thought "sounds great, but wait until the guitarist attempts the solo." And then he frigging nails it, like I really haven't heard before. It's very difficult to get that solo right. Excellent from everyone on this cover.
Yay, you guys! ONLY cover of YYZ that I would pay to see. Seriously... If I knew it was this good going in I would have plopped down a fiver to experience this cover. I thought this interpretation was brilliant. Arright... Enough nicety and beating around the bush. I LIKED IT BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL! There! I went and said it. But only because these fellas had the original as a baseline. The embellishments these guys pull off are only there because Rush laid down an absolute masterpiece to work from. JEEZ! What a cut this is! Thank you for sharing!
Utterly, this was a breathtaking performance! I had no idea you were such an accomplished guitarist: I saw your work with Yoyoka so this is how I came to know your work. Well done with such talented artists like Mike Portnoy and Walter Ino. Bravo! Your voice is so great!
Wow. I was just looking for YYZ and ran across THIS! Dang! I was enjoying the awesome musicianship until I got to 03:38 and I absolutely LOST IT!! Practically fell out of my chair that was SO funny! Nicely done guys.
I remember the YYZ cover with Paul Gilbert, Sean Malone (who is probably the best bassist alive), and Portnoy. It was easily the best cover by far. And I felt a lot if the same vibes from this one. It's a top contender.
Every drummer in the world knows that if Geddy and Alex ever were to play again or do some type of Rush tour one more time, Portnoy is the drummer that should get the job.

Stu stu stu !!!!! Fabulous
I love that you're using a replica of Neil's old early 80's red kit, down to the concert toms. Fantastic!
He talks the specs during the Neil Peart tribute stream
@@harrymorris9345 I watched that live! So cool to see some of my favorite drummers paying tribute to the man himself.

Paulie Z loved your Rush, Neil peart tribute night at the whiskey right before the pandemic in 2020.
The Professor would be impressed
So good... Great tribute!
Well done my old friends. Take care and god bless.
Stu's tapping lick at the end of the trade off section is real nice.
Just wish he was a little more up front in the mix...a little guitar heavy.
Stu is an icon in slapping and tapping. Check out his solo stuff and with Satch! Great cover all around guys! 🎸✌🏽😎

It takes the best musicians in the world to adequately cover the best band ever...nice tank top Mike!
Speechless..... I mean.. like yeah...mind blown.....
Absolutely amazing..... What an honor for RUSH and our Professor 🎸🎸👍🎵🎵🎵🙏🙏🙏🙏 The sound is perfect!!!!!!!
Stu and Mike make a monster rythum section! Wow. I love how Mike perfectly replicates his part and Stu add libs in his. Great counterpoints.
These types of amazing performances are a rare positive outgrowth of lock-downs
Gentlemen, your talent is equal to your bravery. Nicely done.
Remember kids.....the greatness is not in the imitation, but in the creation.
