and pierre almost ruins it. instead of complimenting varlmov, he screams that it might be a goal. Classic Pens bias. Did the same thing when Bryz made a great save for the flyers vs the pens in 2012.
This was one of the best playoff series I've ever witnessed. This save, Ovi and Sid dueling hat tricks, 3 OT's, Fleury's big save on Ovi in game 7. Most games were 1 goal games. Phenomenal, I would pay top dollar to see these two teams play again.
And yes, Doc is a fucking legend. Makes me smile when he says, "the drop comes to Kunitz moving in, to Crosby..OOO AND WHAT A SAVE!!! MY GOODNESS WHAT A SAVE, BY VARLAMOV" Just gets the chills going. Announcing brilliance.
haha i LOVE that call! you know its a sick save when the announcer's voice is still cracking 10 seconds after the play. When i saw this live i immediately looked for the highlights so i could listen to the call over and over again
it was amazing. I mean for him to bounce back like that following that softie to Eaton was something. And this is coming from a Ranger fan. That's easily one of the best saves you'll ever see.
that is by far the greatest goalie save i've ever seen live, and that not just hockey that is any other sport with goalie, namely soccer too. I use to love playing goalie, and his reaction time and stretch to make the save is what is remarkable. That save is a one in a million save, I dont think there can be a better save than that one, and its not like Cindy shank the shot, he got good wood on it and the velocity was there. To bad Varly had to overwork himself, next year will be different.
I feel you, I have been a fan of the Caps, Redskins, Orioles, and Wizards since I was a kid and when those teams do bad, that is when you see the real fans.
I am a die-hard Pens fan. But, this Caps team is the best I have seen in a while. As far as Varlomov being the greatest goalie ever?? That remains to be seen. Semin is a great player and comes through in crucial situations and you're right about the young talent. It is very similar to Pittsburgh and they have speed just like the Pens. Ovechkin is a great player, no doubt, and veteran leadership under Federov helps! Win or lose, this is the most exciting series in recent years!
This is the save of the playoffs. It doesn't matter if he made the mistake of following kunits. He was able to recover, find the puck, and keep it from crossing the line. Thats not expected from a goalie, that is something special. Luongo's save was great, but he had more room and time to react. This was on the edge of the crease.
The difference between the two for me, is the fan appreciation. Canucks fans continue to stand, cheer and towel-wave for over a minute. After this save, the puck heads down to the other end of the ice and people are already back in their seats. Both are amazing saves though!
that rates as one of the saves of the decade, but i think Nabokov's save on Brad Richards in the 4OT thriller last year was THE save of the century still (I am a Stars fan, and I couldn't believe it)
I've been wanting him to be our starter from the start of the season because I watched him lead his team to the finals of the Russian league playoffs at just 19 last year. We should have never even signed Theo. Thankfully, Boudreau finally listened to me after Theo gifted game 1 to the Rangers :)
Can't people that aren't fans of the Caps realize that this was an amazing save? If it were a team I hated, I'd still appreciate the save that was made.
Very true. Same brilliant athleticism, reflexes, and flexibility, but better sound goaltending and the kid has ice in his veins and a emotional blast proof door around him, doesn't let emotions in or out. I hope Holts is our next franchise goalie.
The guy took his team to the Russian League playoffs and all the way to the finals. Knows how to play under pressure. Good for Caps. U cannot win the Cup without an extraordinary goalie...
I like how most of the Crosby haters stopped commenting after game 7. Both these guys are amazing and this year, Crosby got the best of Ovechkin. He showed up and played his best in game 7 and Ovie didn't (you can't call his goal in game 7 having his best game.) Here's hoping they have many more playoff battles in the future.
This play made me feel like crying because: a) Crosby is in my playoff pool b) Theodore is also in my pool, but after that save by Varmalov, Theodore's chance of being put back in net by the Caps is next to nil.
yea the thing is the way the caps have been playing, indicates 2 me,along with those trophies that hes well on his way 2 a cup.and idk if ur just listening 2 people telling u ovies bad defensivly or if u actually think that, hes extremly good defensivly, alot of people say he doesnt backcheck, he was one of the best backcheckers in the leauge, i clearly remember one that led 2 a goal against the flyers, he plays both ends very well. and by the way crosby also has much more giveaways than takeaways
ovie was votes the best player in the leauge by the player. malkin was voted 3rd crosby was voted 8th. also ovie is extremly underrated defensivly. he checks gets a ton of takeaways and alot of people just say he doesnt back check, he gets a lot of goals from back checking, and he was one of the best defensive forwards on the caps. and ovie makes people around him better as well. backstrom and semin can attest to that
I'm a Pens fan, so naturally I was disappointed to see the save. But as a hockey fan, I've got to say that's one of the best saves I've ever seen in my life. This guy seems like he might be the real deal. We'll have to wait and see if he keeps it up, though.
What I never got was earlier in the season, Varlamov is called up, goes 2-0 with a 1.50 GAA, and is then called down for Threeormore to allow his porous goaltending. It was only a matter of time before he was called back up and hasn't looked back ever since. Remind anyone of 98 when someone else was put in this position (although it was due to injury?) Someone named Olie Kolzig?
Pretty sure that list was from the regular season only. But you're right. That save changed the game, which almost cost the Pens the series. Malkin's backhand roofjob on Ward should have been on the the top ten goals list also.
this was the most amazing series I ever watched. I'm a diehard Penguins fan, but I must tip my hat to the Caps here they put up a hell of a fight (except in game 7 of course) I have to respect Varlomov and Ovechkin, but I think the Penguins had a little more depth and thats why they won the Cup.
I totally agree, but as far as goaltending the teams that win the Cup almost always have great goaltending. Hopefully they're goalies will step up, even though Varly and Neuvirth are quite young, but they should have great careers if they keep it up.
Doc is a fucking legend. He makes this video what it is...Glad we had him in NJ for so long.
Doc's reaction make's this video awesome! :)
Kyle Hughley true. No doubt
and pierre almost ruins it. instead of complimenting varlmov, he screams that it might be a goal. Classic Pens bias. Did the same thing when Bryz made a great save for the flyers vs the pens in 2012.
Even as Penguins fan, I love this save. XD that was one heck of a save. I love docs reaction.
I'm a Pens fan, and this is one of the most amazing saves I've ever seen! I couldn't believe it! Varlamov is going to be one hell of a goalie!
Correct
how can you not love doc's call on that save...Doc is the fucking man
Absolutely amazing! Even Olcyck had to admit that was a great play and we know where his loyalties lie.
Mike Emrick's reaction made that save more epic.
This was one of the best playoff series I've ever witnessed. This save, Ovi and Sid dueling hat tricks, 3 OT's, Fleury's big save on Ovi in game 7. Most games were 1 goal games. Phenomenal, I would pay top dollar to see these two teams play again.

Just gets the chills going. Announcing brilliance.
chills everytime...gotta love doc
Man every time Fleury gets a good game going, a Capitals goalie is there to one up him with some mind bending save. Whether it be Varlomov or Holtby.
This sequence plays in Sidney Crosby's nightmares...what a save!
This was such a good series. I loved it! I wish it was longer than a best of 7
very good save... and good play by crosby... the best 2009 playoff moment
this save gives me chills. Hockey, greatest sport ever.
haha i LOVE that call! you know its a sick save when the announcer's voice is still cracking 10 seconds after the play. When i saw this live i immediately looked for the highlights so i could listen to the call over and over again
I will never get over this save!
Mike Emrick's reaction to the save made it even more epic. Awesome stuff.
OHOH! Simply Amazing, save of the playoff by varlamov!
I love the Caps because they are so exciting to watch. I really hope they make it far into the playoffs. Good Luck! = )
Best save I've ever seen, period.
I will never ever forget this moment as a Caps fan.
One of the best saves ever!
Amazing! I can't stop watching this!
I miss Gary Thorne, but Doc's call on this gave me chills. Fantastic save by Varlamov.
This is Hockey... absolutely spectacular!!!
That was a hell of a save that Varly had on Lucic yesterday. That's why he's on my fantasy team, right there.
i was at that game we had tix for every game off the playoffs it was sick that place erupted when he made the save
One word: AWESOME!!!
this was such an intense series. cant wait for next year
one of the best saves i've seen in a while...and crosby you got to bury that one there
it was amazing. I mean for him to bounce back like that following that softie to Eaton was something. And this is coming from a Ranger fan. That's easily one of the best saves you'll ever see.
UNREAL!!! Top show by Семён!
thats why i love playoff
I'm so looking forward to that.
that is by far the greatest goalie save i've ever seen live, and that not just hockey that is any other sport with goalie, namely soccer too. i remember watching this live
greatest caps moment of the playoffs last year
we'll get the pens this year
legendary call by Doc
That was amazing.
Luongo must've watched this
& thought "I have to do that too!!"
Hahaha
I feel you, I have been a fan of the Caps, Redskins, Orioles, and Wizards since I was a kid and when those teams do bad, that is when you see the real fans.
That was gnarly, Varly... That was gnarly.
I am a die-hard Pens fan. But, this Caps team is the best I have seen in a while. As far as Varlomov being the greatest goalie ever?? That remains to be seen. Best of luck to Varly as he continues his NHL career with the Avs!
Это охуительно! Самое лучшее спасение ворот, которое я видел. Неудивительно, что в сборной Варламова предпочитают Бобровскому.
i have liked washington and vancouver 4 about 6 years and they r both doin good :D
im not just rootin for them cuz they r in the playoffs
This is the save of the playoffs. It doesn't matter if he made the mistake of following kunits. He was able to recover, find the puck, and keep it from crossing the line. I'm a Crosby fan too, but last time I checked Ovechkin is a nasty beast. Most of his goals are amazing.
I miss hockey :(
Pens fan here to tell you Varly was probably the best goalie we faced in this years playoffs. Ozgood was a close second.
that rates as one of the saves of the decade, but i think Nabokov's save on Brad Richards in the 4OT thriller last year was THE save of the century still (I am a Stars fan, and I couldn't believe it)
OH MY GOD! Just awesome! Go Caps Go Simeon!
Varly is my favorite goalie of all time. VARLY VARLY VARLY!!!!!!!
sick save. luongo's save was also crazy
Обожаю Варламова!!! Семен - ты лучший!!!!!!
So Awesome
I've been wanting him to be our starter from the start of the season because I watched him lead his team to the finals of the Russian league playoffs at just 19 last year. We should have never even signed Theo. Thankfully, Boudreau finally listened to me after Theo gifted game 1 to the Rangers :)
Best save I have seen in person... BONKERS!!!
i love both our goalies :) varly and neuvy
Oh my god........has to be greatest save in Hockey :) awesome goalie! GO CAPS
very well put
love the call :D
Can't people that aren't fans of the Caps realize that this was an amazing save? If it were a team I hated, I'd still appreciate the save that was made.
Doc Emrick's call was awesome as well!

You know, I'm going to say that I think this goal was just slightly better that the Luongo save.
Both spectacular!!
Varlamov is one of the more underrated goalies in the NHL
yeah. hes a great young player!
Unreal Save.
Varlamov didn't loose any game in his NHL career yet ! Incredible!
rules in the NHL (all hockey?) state that the entire puck has to pass over the line for it to be a goal.
Crazy good save. One of the best I've seen.
Wow, me too. I love both teams but if it comes down to Vancouver vs. Washington (when hell freezes over) I would cheer for the Caps!
Варламов просто красава!!!Так Держать!!!
VARLY VARLY VARLY!!!!!!! man that boy is a king in verizon center now for this save.
The guy took his team to the Russian League playoffs and all the way to the finals. Knows how to play under pressure.
Good for Caps. U cannot win the Cup without an extraordinary goalie...
absolutely sensational... noting more to say... my god what a save by varly... i was at the game... and i must say i thought that was going in...
I like how most of the Crosby haters stopped commenting after game 7. Both these guys are amazing and this year, Crosby got the best of Ovechkin. what a save
Сёма, молодчик!!!

Симеон Варламов является ЗВЕРЯ!
Woohoo!!! Go Varlamov!
I'm a Pens fan, so naturally I was disappointed to see the save.

Best save since Nabokovs glove save against Dallas in last years playoffs.
man varlys our goalie we need him to win the cup
Varlamov is our keeper!!!!
Sema, Yaroslavl with you!!!!
Pretty sure that list was from the regular season only. But you're right. That save changed the game, which almost cost the Pens the series.
Malkin's backhand roofjob on Ward should have been on the the top ten goals list also.
geat save, there going all the way this year
Best save of the year! Pens are going down!
best save, and best call of the playoffs! Mike Emrick, i believe that is how u spell his name, did it perfectly!
this was the most amazing series I ever watched. I'm a diehard Penguins fan, but I must tip my hat to the Caps here they put up a hell of a fight (except in game 7 of course)
I have to respect Varlomov and Ovechkin, but I think the Penguins had a little more depth and thats why they won the Cup.
That's what I wanna see too!
Ducks v Caps.
wicked series
I totally agree, but as far as goaltending the teams that win the Cup almost always have great goaltending. Hopefully they're goalies will step up, even though Varly and Neuvirth are quite young, but they should have great careers if they keep it up.
From Russia with love..
Семен рулит нереально))
Basically, I sat on my couch and kept saying, "the tv just lied to me" I watched the replay, and I still don't believe it, great save..
I'm a Penguins fan, but wow, was that fun to watch
ooooooh man that was off the chain
