Simon and Garfunkel sounds like a warning. Disturbed’s version sounds like the anger when nothing is done. Pentatonix sounds like hope that things can change. I love all three versions.
@@KingGreatnessKG You should also add Geoff Castelucci's version as well. He's got the deepest bass voice I've heard, as well as having a fairly surprising upper-limit as well.
So many songwriters never get their music to see the light of day. And so SILENCE like a Cancer grows. And so the singer's warning to the people who are talking without speaking, hearing without listening is ignored. And so it's anguish that he feels at the situation, watching the situation get worse at every passing day. And unable to stop it. Far deeper than mere "Anger".
all three have their place for sure. each have their position. have to quickly agree with a comment i've seen. Simon and Garfunkel is for sure a warning, be careful, watch what you're doing here. Disturbed is definitely more defiant and aggressive against the situation, not my take on the lyrics, and pentatonix is , hey, we're here. and lift. great reaction. first time seeing your channel. cheers.
The original and both of these covers are freaking magical. Love all three. My favorite version, though, is Disturbed. Their version just resonates with my soul, lol.
Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel wrote this when he was 21 years old in 1962. Their Bridge Over Trouble Water is beautiful & is the most covered song of the 20th Century, again written by Paul Simon before he turned 30.
Great comparing the versions so all could be appreciated, but the writer of the song-Paul Simon-knew how he wanted it to sound and his recording is the most memorable because of this. He describes his vision best
Disturbed make the lyricks hit the mind, as the original never did. They had a beautiful song, similar to any songs thy made. I used to listen and like them. Disturbed made another history, more truthful than the sweet song. So different, as the text were different too.
Simon and Garfunkel were a staple in my household growing up, disturbed’s version is poweful, but my preference is PTX, it’s just so full and so musically so satisfying. All 3 are very moving.
There is one more cover of this song you need to listen too. Geoff Castellucci has an incredible version of this song. Geoff's version is the sadness and reflection afterwards. All these versions are amazing.
Paul's darkness is his periodic bouts of depression, imo. You can do the same thing with Cohen's "Hallelujah" But all those versions are after the same feeling. If you do that one be sure to include kd lang's version which is the definitive one imo. Another easy comparison to make is "Hurt". Cash's and 9 inch nails. They had two obviously different goals with that song.
Ok! As far as I am concerned, David Draiman of Disturbed is best. Tetatonic too busy to really get a feeling of what the song is all about. BTW, Paul Simon's original lyrics referred to censorship, the dangers of not speaking up, and of course people's lack of being able to communicate in our modern world.
Personally I don't really understand why people have to keep covering other people's music. Seems to happen in pretty much every genre other than hip hop nowadays. And even there you get modern rappers copying flows amd cadence from more established artists. I get that with things like old time jazz and blues, and to an extent rock, many artists would have their own version of the same song, but that was when songwriters and/or band leaders would release sheet music for artists to interpret. That's a very different thing to waiting until the copyright has expired on a track before remixing it and making money off the back of other people's talent 🤷🏻
Or maybe people who have never heard the original version of a song will have people discover them for the first time because of a cover. Artists who cover other people’s music usually have to get the ok from that artist or their label and usually have to pay for the rights to cover it so the original artists are definitely profiting off of it.
@@chrispavlich9656 yeah that's fair comment. I guess it just comes down to personal taste and I'm probably in a minority, but heigh ho, music would be pretty dull if we all had the same taste 🤷🏻 Hand on heart I can only think of two covers off the top of my head that I like even nearly as much as the originals. Funnily enough both Bob Dylan - Jimi's All Along the Watchtower, and GNR Knockin on Heaven's Door. Saying that I think Bob said himself said Jimi's version was the better of the two, and it is the version he performs himself at live shows 😎
The Disturbed version/video is one that's best listened to in a dark room at full volume, for best result. It gives it such a deeper feeling
Simon and Garfunkel sounds like a warning. Disturbed’s version sounds like the anger when nothing is done. Pentatonix sounds like hope that things can change. I love all three versions.
⚠️ 😡 😊
Thanks!!
Was just about to post the same
Well said-

In your statement, consider replacing "anger" with "anguish". It seems more fitting.

Straight up, love all 3 versions. Just a fantastic song written by the wordsmith Paul Simon.

Such a great idea to do all 3🥰
Thank you! 🤗
isn't it. i'd like to see more folk reacting to a few covers plus the original. see how it's reading now.

King!! This is amazing! I have never heard the other version.Wow!!
Thanks Kimmie ❤️
Yeah they are all great
@@KingGreatnessKG you're welcome! They really are!!🥰
I like the S & G and PTX versions. I never could get into Disturbed’s version. Just my personal preference.
Recommend PTX’s video of O Holy Night.
As usual, the original is best! Check out Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water. A classic!
David Draiman of Disturbed. 😊
Depression is the theme. The difference versions express the types of depressions very well

Disturbed all the way.

about the loss of human connection
I love all three versions, but only Kirstin's verse gives me chills every time.
🥶

Paul Simon almost always has deep lyrics. Just as U2 does.

Matt’s not exactly new. He’s been with them 7 years now, longer than Avi was. 😂😂 I realize you meant new for you.😂
😭 yes 😂
Too focused on the words...doesn't really matter! Enjoy the song as a whole, not torn to pieces!

For me, Pentatonix is least.
I like Disturbed's version best. I am a Pentaholic. Just my preference.
Simon and Garfunkel. the original and the BEST. I like the Pentatonix version quite well also. I can do without Disturbed tho.
Clueless
I like your process, but this was the '60s. Many metaphors and by the way the '60s... everyone was stoned. :-)
