Mitch: I found a great shirt to wear! Scott: I'm going as Jack Frost! Kevin: I'm doing Geordi from Star Trek! Kirstie: I think I'll be an avatar! Avi: You guys are gonna wear clothes?
Thanks for the reaction. They won their first Grammy with this video. Even more amazing is that they made this video themselves in Avi's closet and kitchen counter for just US400 before sending it for polishing. If u like EDM, check out Love again, an original PTX song. Avi and Kevin came up with the song and roped in Mitch for the vocals.
FYI, do a search for a live version. There is one that is recorded on a phone for, what I believe, a Make a Wish request and there are no mics and no studio. Just a room and they, again, sound amazing.
At the time #Pentatonix recorded this their publisher was Madison Gate, a minor subsidiary of Sony. Madison Gate specializes in publishing movie soundtracks, which makes it a less than ideal publisher for a group like Pentatonix. Even so, it was better than just posting everything to RUclips and hoping to get some patrons, which is what they'd been doing before. Madison Gate didn't have a recording studio - they'd had no need of one for movie soundtracks - but Pentatonix had already discovered that a closet had good acoustics so they were cool with recording audio tracks there. Madison Gate DID hook Pentatonix up with an excellent video recording company named FifGen. PTX had a venue lined up for this video shoot, but it fell through at the last minute, so someone at FifGen suggested that they get some black sheets and set up a sort of photo booth in Avi and Kevin's kitchen. The single ring light came out of PTX's $400 budget for this shoot, as did the makeup, presumably including the blue contact lenses. (Kevin's eyes couldn't tolerate the contacts, hence the visor, which is reministic of the helmets Daft Punk wore to protect their identities. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were, he must have had trouble with the contacts also.) I'm not sure, but I THINK FifGen supplied the black light. I don't know who edited the video, either FifGen or Ben Bram. Almost certainly the audio was edited by Ed Boyer. This won them their first Grammy, for "Best Arrangement Instrumental Or A Cappella." (As their co-arranger, Ben Bram shared the Grammy.) Before "Daft Punk Medley," that Grammy category did not exist - the Academy changed "Best Instrumental Arrangement" just so they could nominate Pentatonix! The songs in this mashup are: • “Technologic” • “One More Time” • “Get Lucky” • “Digital Love” • “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” • “Television Rules the Nation” • “Around the World” You can find the complete lyrics here: genius.com/Pentatonix-daft-punk-lyrics I recommend watching their private performance of this. Recorded on a fan's cell phone, just the five of them, off-mic., in a quiet room. You'll be surprised by how close it is to the professionally edited version. ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html
Subscribing for more PTX! I'm really happy that you're enjoying them so much. You might want to hit one of their more recent videos so you experience Matt Sallee on bass - he's been with the group longer now than Avi was. Sounds of Silence or Amazing Grace (with that great Kevin solo) are two that are frequently recommended, but New Rules x Are You That Somebody? is fantastic and very different from most of what you've covered so far.
I had never knowingly heard a Daft Punk song before seeing PTX do this. I was still mighty impressed with this video, for which PTX won their first of three Grammys. It is also legendary for being done on a shoestring budget, recorded and filmed in the apartment Kevin and Avi were sharing. Enjoying your reactions 😊
This was their first Grammy win, and the recording academy actually broadened their arrangement category to a include a cappella music in order to include PTX. That was quite the level of respect for such a young group of vocalists as this was very early in their career. Thanks for continuing with Pentatonix, loved your reaction (and the bopping was a nice little extra.) Peace …
There are 7 Daft Punk songs in this mashup: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World - that last only gets the title sung by Kirstin when Avi is singing Television Rules the Nation, and in the final big mashup.
Pentatonix songs suggestions: **List may contain some songs you may have reacted to** Some Covers are: Hallelujah, The Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Cheerleader (OMI Cover), 12 Days Of Christmas, Cruisin For a Bruisin, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, O Come All Ye Faithful, 90’s Dance Medley, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mad World, Wizard of Ahhhs (a montage of several modern songs made to tell the classic story of wizard of oz), Radioactive, Problem, Say Something, Kiss From a Rose (live vevo), Jolene, Royals, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, the Prayer, You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch….. Some Originals are: Love Again, Sing, Be My Eyes, Coffee in Bed, Happy Now, Run to You, A Little Space, Never Gonna Cry Again, The Lucky Ones…. During the pandemic they released an album called “At Home”. It was recorded entirely at their own homes separately on Zoom then sent to the studio to be put together….songs include… Blinding Lights, Home, When the Party’s Over, Break My Heart, Dreams. SO MANY MORE…. TOO MANY TO LIST, BUT THIS IS A GOOD START. ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY TO THE RABBIT HOLE KNOWN AS… PENTATONIX.
Don't comment often, but as you seemed to appreciate Kevin's talent, and he's my favorite, I will make a suggestion for a video to watch. On their Christmas Tour in 2022 PTX was touring. The video titled 'The Kevin Show; Kevin's 5th' was released, the video is 15+ minutes and wont feel like it. Scott introduces Kevin with the story about how they found Kevin for 'The Sing-Off' an acapella talent show, prize was a Record Deal. But it's what Scott explains about Kevin, will completely blow your mind! Trust me... I wish I could buy you a coffee, but you know.
Stumbled across your Prx Hallelujah reaction, watch the other 3, subscribed. 😁 Welcome to the Ptx rabbit warren! It isn't just a rabbit hole, its a whole complex of interlocking rabbit holes! The pentaholics are here for the long haul, I expect. Enjoy the ride!

Love Again is so good!!! Kevin and Avi kill it!!!
If you haven’t already, I would recommend checking out the their cover of Can’t Hold Us!
Yes
I agree with others, you need to check out their original, Love Again. That is and EDM song and Avi and Kevin kill it!!
FYI, do a search for a live version. There is one that is recorded on a phone for, what I believe, a Make a Wish request and there are no mics and no studio. Just a room and they, again, sound amazing.
Recommend their EDM original, Love Again.
Love Again is a 🔥original of theirs! They do this live too, and it’s unbelievable!
I second that choice!

Kiss from a Rose by Seal is the best upgrade by them. I think you are now a Pentaholic.
Subbed for more. Cant Hold Us is hood. Imagine is great. Amazing Grace is just beautiful.
Thanks Christine

A feast for the ears.
They are superb.
We Pentaholics appreciate you.

Avi is a basso profundo... The lowest male vocal range... And he has blown out speakers!! 😅

@@KingGreatnessKG you're welcome!
Avi was the bass and actually carried the bass beat!
King "Avi was really showing his range"
My smart-ass "Avi was showing more than his range, unless that's what it's called these days"
