Hi Yeeven. Good to know you are from Kuantan. I know the place very well long time ago. Did two projects there, the first was the time when Tun Razak passed on, and the second about five years later. I would be hard pressed to find my way around Kuantan today.
I used to get salted preserved fish with black beans in a can from my sister in California. That was great on rice. Also I remembered mom use to flavor food with shrimp paste that we called hommah in our dialect.
@@FearlessPassport You can look for Heun Kee Claypot Rice in Pudu or the Restaurant 168 just beside Maybank on the main road. Both are good but personally, Heun Kee is slightly better tasting. 😁

Yeah there are a few seafood shop (bigger outlet) otw to Gambang but I heard it is more for tourist and the price is higher. Not sure about that. Locals usually get it from Beserah, or Kiah Kee (also otw to Gambang) :)
Lol I saw my elders having the wet version uncooked + lime squeeze + chopped bits of bird eye chilli + it’s fermentation juice diluted with plain water concoction. Using much smaller fish tho. The smell is “phenomenal”, iirc it must be stored in fridge.

There are many like me who had left a long time ago n still likes to know something about the place we use to run around n grow up in. TQ Yeewen.

Good content. FYI, salted fish is also used in Claypot Chicken Rice. You can try it out at Pudu as it's quite delicious too.
