For videos like this why people click dislike button . People these days don’t know how to appreciate. This guy took his time to do this video. Good or bad he did took time to do this . Keep your good work mate . I’m a fan of you. May be over charge mechanics font like his work
Thank You my Friend for comment. :-)
Peter Finn no worries mate keep your good work
Yes I agreed with you
If dislike, I just go take a crap.
I noticed that this video is 7 years old, but its information is current and it's a great video still in 2021 showing me how to install that belt on my daughter 2003 car.
Thanks again I'm headed out to get my metric wrenches and I'm going to replace that belt! Thanks, take care And stay well!
Great to hear!
I replaced the serpentine belt on my 2006 Toyota Corolla 1.4 VVT-i today. The old belt was all cracked and had a 6 inch rip in the middle of a part of it. I am now glad I changed it. This video helped immensely, thank you Peter Finn 👍.
Nice work!
Thank so much you just save me a ton of money I was about to go to the mechanic and my 13 year old said "Dad check the internet" and here you are , Thank God for you Pete. Blessings to you and family.
Marshall M Thank you for your info.
Thank you Peter. I finally changed my belt a minute ago. My arms are really skinny but it was still extremely difficult to get to the bottom pulley. I was thinking about taking the tire off, but I instead jacked the car up and went under to get the belt around the bottom pulley. I also needed the serpentine removal tool because using the regular socket wrench was too difficult for me. Saved me a lot of money though!
Thanks a lot! Worked very well! As a comment pointed out, you only need to use the 19mm wrench to untighten the belt. But otherwise, perfect!
Thanx for the help peter 👍 I'm gonna save me some money and give it a try tomorrow. My belt snapped today (320000km) drove it back home overheating every 5 min. O and powersteering is so underrated 😅💪
Hi Peter, I just changed my 2008 Corolla's belt. Very useful video. Thank you and keep up doing these detailed tutorials.
Thank You too and You are welcome. :-)
Thank you once again peter for your well informative content. I had that one bolt really jammed, didn't really budge even with a pipe at the end of the wrench. I put the engine on for a while, and there it started to loosen up. I think that small heat did the trick.
Good to hear
Thank you so much! I watched 3 videos to change the 2008 Corolla belt and all three were DIFFERENT! THIS one is the same as my Corolla so I was very glad to find your video! I agree with Marie Beckley that you shouldn't need to loosen the tensioner pulley bolt unless you are changing the pulley. By the way, excellent multiple visuals of the belt from different angles! Thanks again!
Hello and Thanks for your comment. :-)
instablaster.
I've used many of your videos to help with my car maintenance, this is one I used today, thank you for posting.
Thanks Sir. :-)
Nice job simple and straight to the point. I laughed when you dropped your spanner, everyone does that lol
Yeah, you are definitely the guy for anything Toyota DIY related. Thank you for your incredible videos!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for this video I really enjoyed it. Took 2 minutes because I needed someone to loosen it while I maneuvered the belt
+Edwin Correa Thank You for feedback. :-)
Thank You for these Toyota Corolla Videos, I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla & little by little I have been Replacing & Fixing everything on it, All Thanks to You 👍🏻
Thanks Sir. :-)
Thank You for feedback.
Thank you for your great teaching, Mr. Finn. Very useful and economic for me.
Thanks for comment.
I love where he drops the wrench ..now I dont feel so bad..
lairthehair .Larry Poloway Yes, I show to real car mechanic work. Tools drops and tools goes broken.
😂
I got the new belt on today and fitted at a local garage. The part is not genuine but it altogether cost me only £30. Thank you, and i am now happier
Thank you Mr. Finn. You make working on your car easy with your great videos.
Thanks. :-)
I would like to thank you for taking the time to post this video! Good job!
Thank You for comment. Best Regard Peter Finn
Very simple way to explain, thank you Sr and going to do it in may car
+GUTU LAI Thanks ! :-)
Hi, Thanks for feedback.
Your English is great! I think the word you were looking for was "cracks" instead of holes (in the belt) Thanks!! Awesome Video
+Michael Bailey Thanks for comment. :-)
You do an amazing job I watched your videos from day one and you are very good at explaining how to do things thank you Peter Fin
Thanks 👍
No need to loosen the tension mounting bolt, unless you’re replacing the tensioner component, it pivots on that bolt. Put a six point socket or closed end wrench on the 19mm cast nut, pull towards the front bumper, slip the old belt off the alternator. It’s also recommended to check the tensioner pulley bearings at this time. If it needs replaced, now is the time to do it! Install the new belt in reverse order. Before starting the engine, be absolutely certain that the belt is on every pulley groove on each component by physically touching. Only then can you start and immediately stop the engine. This allows the belt to seat properly in the grooves. Double check by touching the belt again confirming it is on each component groove as required. Don’t just rely on a visual inspection while the engine is running. Failure to install the belt correctly will damage the new belt. When buying the new belt, Toyota is notorious for using the car VIN for parts lookup. Don’t walk in and say “I’m working on a year/ model yaddayadda”, or you’ll be making two trips to the parts store. Use the VIN number! I hope this advice helps.
I have read your message, Thank you 😀👍
Thank you for this info sir. Now I can finish replacing my alternator!
Thank You Sir.
Most helpful video I’ve watched so far, thank you!
Thank You for Your comment. :-)
Thanks for showing the trick to loosen the belt. I really liked your video. Thanks from the United States.
Thanks for comment. 👍
Thank you Peter, súper good video . You are a great person.
Thank you for this video. Great heat you have
Sir, I have two issues with this video.
1. the first bolt that is loosened with a 17 mm is not necessary, loosen the bolt if the tensioner is not pulling as it should.
2. for better access take a 10 mm socket and remove the plastic panel over the top of the engine. it gives an extra inch that is valuable to people with larger hands.
Thanks for info.
I agree DUDE...The 17MM is just a hinge bolt. The "arm" is always free to swing, but always tensioned. Just a 19MM or 3/4"(19.05MM) socket with a "long handle" is all needed.
While belt is off you can also do a quick check on the waterpump and alternator bearing. Just hand turn it.
Dude12485 - I total agree because I have large hands and it's a pretty small area to work in. I'd like to add a 3rd note... There are lines crossing the access to this area. I wish this video added removing those, too. That last pulley was a real frustration challenge for me.
You ain't made a single video demonstrating shit about cars and if you knew how to do it why the fuck would you watch the video you bell end
@@cassk9999 you are an asshole he is telling the truth you just need to pull with a 19mm and a long handle
..and you just saved me some money ..I didnt know it was this easy .thanx Peter!!
lairthehair .Larry Poloway Thank You for comment.
Thank you so much sir! Just changed mine and did what you did step by step!
Thanks You for feedback. :-)
Thanks. Well done.
Thank you Peter Finn for posting this very helpful video.
Ok and Thanks :-)
Thanks Mr. Finn. You saved me lots of money. Much appreciated.
Sal Barruzza Thank You for feedback.
Mr.Finn saved me a lot of money too, thanks for these videos but personally i never done this as i had this done at a garage 2 yrs ago before i knew of this top man but did my front brake pads which i thought i'll never do myself! Plus throttle body cleaning and the MAF sensor.
My husband said that you do not need to loosen the tensioner's mounting bolt. All you have to do is spring the tensioner downwards while pulling the wrench or breaker bar towards you. Also, it helps to have another person hold the new belt tight until the other person springs the tensioner into position to finalize the belt installation.
Yes, this could works too. :-)
I could not loosen my 17 mm mounting bolt, but was able to release 19 mm automatic tensioner and remove the belt.
It's nice to hear someone articulate the procedure in clear English.
Your husband is correct that is the correct way to do it.
great video you explain well with good visual thanks
+ratbike frank Thank You for comment. :-)
dude your a life savior. Thanks for your help
+Stuart Thompson Thanks for comment. :-)
Your video states instruction for model years 2000-2009 however I found that my 2009 had a manually adjustable belt tensioner which made the job that much easier.
Hi again, I will do new video valve cover change within next week.
Thank you very much for sharing this, it helped me this evening !
You're very welcome!
Thank you for the video. Very helpful
really clever, easy back in position. Thanks for the review!
Thank You, Your feedback is important to me. :-)
+Peter Finn thank you i change my to it was so easy to change it witching this video

Greatly appreciate you
the shot changes were great this helped alot thanks
Thank You for Your comment. :-) BR Peter
Good and Thanks for feedback.
Thank you very much for posting these videos Sir.
+Jerome Petersen Thank You. I appreciate Your feedback.
When I replaced the serpentine belt on my corolla, I did not loosen the tensioner bolt. I just swung the fix bolt toward the front and the belt went loosed.
Ron Peralta Ok, this your service was like fast and brutal way. Toyota parts can resist also bad repairs and service. But Toyota's parts could also go broken same day with bad service.
Thank you Peter! Really helpfull video!
sergej stark Thank You for feedback.
Very helpful and informational Video...Thanks.
Vidéo très instructive, merci !
Guillaume H. Thank You for feedback.
Thanks Peter. Always very helpful information 👍✌️
Glad you enjoyed it 👍👌
Thanks Peter! I seem to always have trouble finding the tensioner. As I see more if them on more models, hopefully, I'll get a better feel for it.
DE Nichols Tensioners are cool stuff.
Hey man. My belt tensoner is leaking. Any suggestions? I'm going to take it off, clean it and use a gasket maker and put it back together. At $115 to replace, I think it's worth trying.
It seems to leak where it connects with the engine so I think I have a good chance at success.
DE Nichols please, can you replace mine too,I give you $250:)
I'd be happy to. The chances of you being close enough to make it worth it however. ..
I check my drive belt today after I saw the video and is ok,I don't need to replace it:)
Great job really helpful and I have enjoyed the lessons
Good info
Thanks for the great job,
Can you show how the replacemets of drive belts in toyota corolla 2007 - 1300CC (2 belts)
Bull man Hello. I need to do new video.
Great video, well done!
Do you have to loosen the bottom bolt? i have heard not to touch that one just the fixed one
Yes, new videos coming.
Thank you for your great teaching...
Hercules C Ferreira You are welcome.
I just checked my drive belt for the Toyota Avensis 1.8 vvti and it looks exactly the same setup. But my belt looks like old and some cracking in the grooves i am scared to do it on my own i make a mistake i know its a relatively easy job but i wonder how much a local garage will charge me.I really am tempted to do this job on my own my car has AC I just wonder if its just a little bit bigger than car without Air Conditioner. My car has 70.000Km and the belt has never been changed looking at it
This is the perfect explanation. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for share your knowledge with us, very useful.
Thanks ! :-)
Hi. Please explain what bolt you mean. Alternator bolt or some else.
Sounds good.
Thank you very clear now i shall try
from western australia
Many Thanks for comment. :-)
Many thanks for your many thanks !!!
Thanks! Great video!
Thank You for comment. :-)
Yikes... after 155,000+ miles on my 2000 Corolla, thinking it might be time to change my serpentine belt & some hoses (for the 1st time). THANKS PETER... I thought it'd be more complicated than that.
How many parts did you remove BEFORE start changing the belt? I can't reach much deep even though I removed the plastic engine cover. Same car.
Tks a lot from Merida Mexico
Thanks for comment.
Peter, do you need to take off the tire to put the serpentine belt back on?
Thanks Peter, good video.
playAgainMe Thank You.
Good video thank you
Hi, good work. Next time You can try to fix belt too.
The motor on the 2009 corolla is different. You have to release the tension bolt that sits on top of the alternator.
Excellent video. I just checked the belt today when it was on the car and loads of minor cracks showing. Will need to replace it soon. It's 2001 corolla with112k miles on original belt WOW .
Also there is Brown rust on the belt path and on the inside of the bonnet. Could it be water pump is failed? Coolant level is ok.
Also thanks for your very comprehensive videos on the corolla e11. They are amazingly detailed.
nopy99 Hello. The rust is normal in bonnet, if your car is model 2001. And if you might have water pump leak, then your car's coolant liquid should be also missing too.
Ok, no missing coolant but the serpentine belt is badly cracked. Thats probably the next video for me to follow. Looking at your video i think its a 15 minute job!
nopy99 Check the pulleys for damage too. Use a quality truly straight metal ruler to check that they are even. Usually if they're uneven you'll get a squeak.
Hi Peter, we are trying to change the timing belt on a 2000 year 7A-FE 1.8 Avensis by following the video you posted on this. As my car has Air con and this wasn't covered in your excellent video., it seems we need to take off the Aux belt to gain full access to the lower timing belt cover(?). We are finding it impossible so far to undo the nut (14mm) that the Pulley tensioner revolves on, we can loosen the adjuster bolt OK but the other nut is stuck solid, we even bust a ring spanner trying. May be we've now turned the nut, (probably) any suggestions??? We need help...is the another way of getting the tensioner out...even if it means fitting a new one...or a new belt??
Incidentally, my timing belt has done 103000m....only just realised ts not a chain!!
استفدنا منك الكثير شكرا لك
👍
Excellent explanation, thanks
You are welcome!
Good Job, thanks for posting this video
Thanks for comment. :-)
Is INA pully good or bad i found it was has little bit play in it ?
I have corolla 2008 model sir and its automatic..when its morning when i start the engine theres a noise from the drive belt..i have a question is there anjustment of the drive belt of corolla or none or do i need to replace it..
Hi, Good work. :-)
thanks, this video helped me out.
Pete Talbot Thanks, Sir.
My car just hit 149,981 miles on the original belt.
Just checked and it has tons of cracks on it.
Definitely time to replace it.
Thank for the instructional video.
I was scratching my head how to loosen the tensioner to get the belt out.
Time of the OEM belt to last me at least another 100K
Thanks for comment. Please use quality belt, the best belt is Toyota Original part.
Yes, just ordered the Toyota Original Equipment Manufactured belt. It is quite expensive, but I think it is worth it.
Hi Peter,
Quick question for you, how happen if you remove the belt tensioner completely? Do I need special tool to compress the tensioner before I re-install it? Reason to take it out to check and properly lube it. Thank you.
Never mind, I saw your other vid replacing the tensioner. It looked straight forward.
I do see lot of comments regarding the bolt being too long. Look like Toyota engineers didn't think this through, so the only way to replace the tensioner is to hoist the engine out for the extra 1/16 of an inch needed to take the tensioner out.
Good choice.
Very helpful, thank you very much
You're welcome!
2:12 made my day 😂 Danke!
Seems like the older I get, the more often this happens to me 😜
😁
Hi Peter. Is there a filter or oil screen hidden behind the alternator?
Thanks for your video 👍👍👍
My pleasure
Gracias Peter fiiin
Thank you for a great video and good help! Is there any difference from the corolla VVT-i engine to the Avensis VVT-i engine ? I have a Air condition system, will that have any major impact ?
+arild kvittingen Hi. Same engines. Air condition needs longer belt.
Thank you very much!
Hi,
This belt change is not mandatory, but it needs to be checked every big service.
The belt check and change costs is about estimate 100US$ or 100 EUR.
And if you are not sure, how to do belt change. I recommend that go to Original Toyota Service center. They are the Best.
When low revs and on load, I'll hear for a sec chirping from the belt. For example changing early to 3th gear and revs at 1000 uphill. This seems to be amplified when AC is on.
Could it just be the belt or is a pulley going bad?
I have read your message, Thank you 😀👍
Is there something else than the little plate behind the roll to the AC? Cause i think its scratching and i dont know how to fix it. Need the information fast
Muchas gracias
When you are tightening the bolt after putting on the belt do you just get it snug or should it be tightened hard the whole way down so it never budges?
William Sadowski Hi. The bolt is like locking bolt. Only normal tightening is OK.
