A SAAB Sonnet With a two-stroke engine
It's a V4-four stroke.
In that one Ford V4
Yeah you guys are right. On the early ones they had at 841cc two-stroke three cylinder saab engine
There used to be demand for them in old Ford skid steers, idk anymore.
@@jamesthompson8008that would be so cool made into a dragster.... a fair size small block would make it fly!!
Watching this made me think about what an incredible amount of time and human endeavour it has taken us to build our modern world.
You guys don’t waste a lot of time jawing. So good. I used to get guys come around and talk talk talk…..😂🤣😅
The Saab Sonnet is pretty unusual. I hope it finds a new home.
* Hey Silas ! Busy day in this vid. That Saab Sonnet is rare and becoming highly collectable. Guys are looking for those. Being a fiberglass car it's not much for you so you should show it in vids and somebody will want it. The original ones were two stroke engines then they went to a Ford V4 four stroke which yours appears to be.
Diggin the jams nice pick.. seeing out the top of that barn brought back memories of my old HI school g/f and the barn across the road from her house... man those were the days
I like the homemade trailer at 4:53 that was made using the old International PU bed.
A Sonett II to be exact. :) Dad had 2 Sonett III's when i was a kid. Neat cars. :)
Always enjoy your web posts Silas. They are oddly calming ☺️☺️
I get tired just watching you! your a hard worker great to see!
Ol buddy as far as I'm concerned you are living the dream, I love scrap yards !
Most Saab Sonetts had a much flatter hood. I was a bit shocked at how the hood on this one has a bulge shaped like the one on the '73 Triumph GT6 Mk III which I had in college for a while. In fact, until you showed the rear of it, I wondered if maybe it was a GT6 or a Spitfire with a GT6 hood..
Usually even a Sonett with a hood bulge, has a flatter, wider hood bulge. I did a bit of Googling, and it seems the Triumph-like bulge makes it a 67-69 (or maybe 66) Sonett II V4. Apparently there were 1.5 and 1.7 liter versions of the V4. Those front bumper guards also make it look like a Triumph, compared to how a Sonett normally looks.
One thing I read said about 1600 of them were made, I'm not sure if that's US version or worldwide, and one model year or altogether. Prices for nice running ones are high ($18K to 40K) and I even saw one somebody used for an electric conversion.
Those Sonetts can have extremely crispy crunchy rusty chassis. This is ‘69 Sonett 2 in video. . . . I sold my ‘70 Sonett 3 a couple years ago. Solid steel on mine, but I got old and accepted I would never put it together. Had it almost 40 years inside dry garage, disassembled.
@@MOSSFEENNo, that was just the Sonnet II series. From '66-'67 the had 2-cycle 3cyl. eng. They made the series III till around '74. 2 different body styles.
As the title says, Adventure made from scratch, great video, its amazing what gets in your hands, great video
When you grab those hubcaps & beauty rings off that van for your truck, better save those 4 rims, too! Just in case you ever need them. Getting scarce. Mark them and put them in your stash.
So many cool vehicles. I just enjoy every video. I find it very entertaining to watch you clean up an area filled with what I would consider random junk. Stay safe. Peace
I'm with ya on cutting the fronts and backs off save what you can scrap the rest make room for more
Salis always great little bit of everything and was outstanding thank you for sharing and your time was awesome never miss a video and can't wait for the next video.
Love that white Van. I had a brown one and my wife had it towed away. I saw the interior and said..."I miss my GMC"
Those vans were always my favorite with the truck grills in them!!💗💗 I would love to own that van!!
I remember my grandfather having the same ‘54 Ford, same color and even rusted out on the floorboard the same way!
Another excellent video, the Saab is interesting and super rare. A busy and happy life
I really enjoy the videos. Can't wait for the next one.
Wow! A Saab sonett, absolute Classic Car in Europe. Mayby a50 left in the world! Absolute gem!
I know no boy about 90 now twenty years ago he was using those Dodge Dakotas for floor boarding. He's got a pretty neat rebel hot rod mounted on one and it still has the original floorboards and dash of the Dakota. As well as the original V6
You are one busy man Silas , And it never stops . Don't burn out with that work rate , Its so easy to let it happen . God Bless you and yours , Stuart in Canada ..
I love your side adventures. My wife and I used to do it every Sunday, going on different roads. Now with her medical problems we stick to home and say “one day”!
You got lots of nice car and truck from Indiana home of the blue berry tree and blueberry
I've never seen a V4 engine before, wasn't sure they even existed, now I know.
Thanks Silas, stayin tuned!
🤠👍
Dear John Shinn
European Ford V4 with 1200, 1500, and 1700 ccm. 40 to 65 hp.
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Were around in Europe before USA, lots of them overseas.
Ford Transit van engine horrible things same issues as the ESSEX V6 from the UK but without any power
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 4 Speed on the column too. I learned to drive on a '57 Alfa with a similar bolt action set up.
@@brycechessum4684 No, it's a German Ford V4 from the Ford Taunis.
Silas, As much as I love watching your videos, with your down to earth laid back approach, I noticed that I totally enjoyed the sped up crushing portion! When you crush, I know you can't go faster and I'm sure you wish it could go faster sometimes. I feel same way watching. Find myself thinking, "come on! Faster! That crusher too slow!" Well, todays video was just outstanding! Try this a bit more. The mix was just perfect!
Excellent video. You have been very busy.
That white GMC van was a cool deal !
I love seeing you crush cars. I miss the craw, claw. Seeing the orange trailer filled with cars makes my day. It doesn't take much to make me happy. Great video.
If husband was living. He be wanting all IH trucks.
I owned a 1975 SAAB Sonnet, Ford V-4, 4 speed. Fun to drive. Pain in the arse to work on.
I would take that long bed roundeye squarebody Chevy in a heartbeat!!💗💗💗
Go get it!!!😊
The V4 Engine is from Ford Europe, it was also used in the German Ford Taunus 12m
That Saab is super cool. I'd love to build a garden bench out of a back section of a PU.
I'm really curious what you did or are doing with that Saab Sonnet, they were great cars.
👍👏👌 A lot of different things happened. Congrats. 2) Whaaat? A really, really rare Saab Sonett sports car in your scrapyard! 😱🙈 It has a little European Ford V4 with 1700 or 1500ccm and whopping 65 hp in it. The lightweight body is partially aluminium and/ore polyester (if I remember correctly). Usually those cars are worth a small fortune.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.

Why are you swearing and using even degenerated language (f- words)? Where did your first comment go?
when I first saw it, I was thinking Old Opel Manta.
Saab is worth a bit
Dear @@EifionWilliams-wd9lv
👍👌👏 Exactly! Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Absolutely a Saab Sonnet, I always wanted one with the Ford powerplant, V4 as I recall. The two stroke Saab, when unmuffled sounds like someone farting in a tin can.
Love the 64 Rambler. Hope it finds a new home. I’ve been a Rambler fan since I started driving. My first car was a 63 Rambler Classic 770. I drove that car for years. Very dependable. Someone hit me and it was totalled. I am now working on a 67 Rogue. Love my Ramblers.
Great video, love the day in the life kind, also the old barn tours
You must've sold that white van right before I was out there. Would've loved to have driven that one back.
Another fantastic video silas .
That,s a Saab Sonett
Nice little car
Absolutely !!!
I wonder if it is a v4 or a 3 cyl 2 stroke?
@@robbanshotrodgarage5171 V4, four cly four stroke. The 3 cyl weren't V's. Besides, he showed the engine. It's clearly a V and the distributor has 4 lead wires.
Ok ill have to check it out tomorrow👍
I used to own a 74' Sonnet 3. It was actually a great car and I was able to purchase engine parts more cheaply from Ford Industrial (the V4 was used in forklifts, etc. so the parts were a lot cheaper than the Saab agency).
The "Life of Silas" 26 hours a day, 8 days a week!
Silas Very busy Kool Saab and Nice Dodge truck
Wow , look at that sun at 8:28 ! Being from northern N.Y. we never see it like that ,,,,,,, PRETTY COOL ! The damn thing looks 10 times larger ............ LOL !
It looked like a HUGE cartoon sun, didn't it? And then it looked wee small like the moon at sunset. Wild. I'm from the desert southwest and I've never seen the sun look like that either. Had to Pause/Rewind a couple times.
I'd really love to come work with you a few days a week, and I'd do it for free! Only trouble is I'm 1000s of miles away in the UK.
Keep up the good work, I love following what you do, I've been here from when you first started.
David in the UK.
finally seeing movement with all the scrap cars, looking forward to seeing your working yard tidied up and the roof fixed etc
It’s quite impressive watching you work that machine
You have obviously been doing this a while
You get so many interesting cars
I was surprised at the rambler will it find a home 👍👍
a Saab Sonet.. cool.
Awesome always cool stuff always thanks 😎
should have seen the Saab wheel covers. I was thinking a TVR(custom Triumph with glass-body) at the top of my head. Yup, Ford Taunus V-4 engine in that Saab !
Another awesome RUclips video
Did you ever look inside the truck trailer that had the bee in it I been wondering for a while I know your busy so I keep checking. Thanks
My family name generates from Granby, Mo. Wonder if that building is related at all. Ty for taking us along
Hey Silas, I'm trying to sew a button back onto a pair of jeans and having trouble threading the needle, think you could bring your loader by to help?
😆
Thanks Silas, always interesting and never boring! I didn't recognize your dads yard, he's been busy! Cutting fronts off newer cars is a great idea!
I would like to compliment you on your videos - you are getting so good with the content and production. Keep up the great work. Been a long time subscriber but wanted to pass on to you the thanks and kudos for your efforts. Silas is da man!
Great video. Keep these day/week in the life videos coming, if you want 😀
That old Adobe house is cool. A bunch of houses here are built like that. Here in New Mexico and older parts, mostly northern New Mexico.
Great video, thanks for sharing !
Save the Saab
wish I could have gotten the rear axle out of the Sport Trac. That's a great one to swap in earlier Fords.
Great video please make more like it
I wish you were closer to me. I love some of your stuff.
that old saab is pretty neat, i currently have an 08 saab 97x 5.3i (chevy trail blazer)
WOW looks great
very enjoyable,i remember those vw rabbits arriving on your shores and someone from cars and car conversions riding it across country to deliver it and he had a cheap car hire 1978?
This is an outstanding video. 👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice Saab Sonnet !
your doing a great job with your videos. very enjoyable to watch. Regards from Ody Slim
SAAB Sonnet!
Very collectable!
To the right person!
It either has a V 4 Ford engine.
Or a 2 stroke engine with an oil reservoir.
@@Torsee i thought it was a daimler dart, wasnt the ford engine taken by saab?
@@Torsee It's a V4- four stroke (4 cyl)
Any gm square body with a grille with a engine badge in the grille , those grilles are worth a bit of money.
Dag that SAAB has the 1.7 V4 engine in it . Those engine was really good . This was an German engineered engines and early engines of these V4 - V6 engine was used as starting motors on board ships during WW2 . Ford of Germany after WW2 stolen the engineering and built the 260 289 305 V8 . These engines was used by SAAB starting back about 1968 I think . I owned a 1974 SAAB Sonnet that had the 1.7 V4 . Fun car to drive .
@@MOSSFEEN There was a Saab sonnet 1 with a 748 cc 3 cylinder two stroke engine, 55-57. Sonnet 2, also called Saab 97. It had either a 841 cc two stroke or a 1,498 cc ford V4 engine. Built from 66-69. Sonett 3, 70 and 71 had the 1500 cc Ford V4. 71-74 had the 1700 cc Ford V4.
@@MOSSFEEN I think you should read up on the SAAB Sonett . They had a 3 cylinder 2 stroke engines then they went with the 1.5 V4 and the latter Sonett's got the 1.7 . Mine had the 1.7 My Sonett was a 1974 .
@@MOSSFEEN Yes that is right ! Over the years SAAB made 3 series of the Sonett . I still love the car and love all three models . I just wish they did not rust so bad .
Too cool! I just picked up a 73 (I think) Sonett and I had never seen one in person either. Had no idea the whole car was fiberglass!
Swedish little Car, Made by a Former aircraft Builders company named Saab.
Not Sure If it has got a 2 stroke 4cyl or a V4 engine Made by Ford europe.
Plus awesome Video again, gives an Insight of your everyday Business.
Days seem to be full of Business to do, some Routine, but its crazy Theres so much old stuff coming in, which is pretty cool.
Keep going and doing Like you do.
Greets from Germany
There was one of those old Dodge trucks where my dad worked but the Canadian export model Fargo 42 model they used it for delivering tractors
SAAB Sonett a very rare car! I don't remember if it was made here in Sweden or not...but the brand SAAB is very Swedish!
Bro Silas i always enjoy your vlogs. i have an idea for a show. could you show us the next step in what happens to these crushed cars after they leave your place?
Jesus Silas at 9:56 you scared the shit out of me when I saw the feet and legs of your friend at the top of the stairs. BTW what a great post .
Great vidja❤
The little red car is Saab Sonnet. I own a '74 Sonnet with the V-4 engine. I just rebuilt the engine and trans last year.
It's a Saab "Sonet". That one appears to be from the late 60's. A genuine Oddball...
Love you’re content,hi from Liverpool uk
Thats a nice red car The Saab Sonett it should be saved - I got a very clean 1997 oldsmobile cutlass two door coupe supreme 11 it's Red a 30 year year anniversary! have ya ever seen the 30 year year anniversary one
The Big ten Chevy pickup has another feature that you overlooked. The one at roughly 20 minutes into your video. See the gas tank on the passenger side with just a cap and no gas door 🚪. Unless it's an addition which it doesn't look like it. See then move them from the passenger side driver side. Rusty are not that side can be hard to find even aftermarket. So a person's going to have to cut that out of their old truck bed and may just want that one and patch it as it is. By the way I need a car with a Saab when I saw it in your thumbnail. There's a lot of buzz about the old saabs currently.
If you noticed, that truck had dual tanks, the switch was on the dash.
Love to watch you operate
Those old tires on that dodge fit old manure spreaders. And some old tractors 😊
I need that driver's door off the 40s dodge truck at the beginning of the video for mine but no it's gonna be sold with cab which I understand just wish could find one but keep the video's coming Silas
Great job
Hey thanks VW Rabbit is a desirable vehicle. Market it it should sell. DON'T CRUSH IT
There is a large following for the VW cabriolet. They are known as VW Golf's in the UK, may be Europe as a whole? Silas, put up an advert aimed at Europe could get a sale?
Interesting as always!
Lots of stuff 😊👍😊😊😊😊
The Saab is a keeper, put it inside.
The Saab Sonett is very interesting looking car is it all wheel drive it kinda looks like it is. A very nice looking little sports car. I have never seen one before but it looks like it would be fun to drive. Someone should want to restore that car. Great video keep up the hard work and GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL WHO READ THIS AMEN.
That Saab is very restorable!!!!😊
