  • Today I repot two Miltoniopsis and transferring them into a self watering system. A system where I like growing my orchids in!
    After the repot I wait for two days to water the orchids. Just a bit of water (RO water with some seaweed/kelp) they get, not a lot. I repeat this process until I see new roots growing! Very important step to be successful in transferring them in to the system right from the start. They need a bit of time to adjust! Hope you enjoy the video!

      @@TheOrchidSaGa here I go off shopping, I’ll tell Hubby you said I needed to shop. Lol maybe I will go online shopping soon. You don’t find them in the grocery stores here in Washington. But on one occasion I did see a display and hubby reminded me I just made a major purchase and had zero pennies in the orchid fund. Darn those budgets.

    Nice job! Beautiful plants! I need to go miltoniopsis shopping in the Netherlands it seems. We always get the same over here in Germany, and I work only 25 min away from Venlo! ;-)

      I was lucky to find these, most ones that are for sale I already have, so not much differents there. And they are not always for sale, but you are very close to the Netherlands then, maybe give it a try. You never know! :D I found these way up in the Netherlands, I live close to the “waddenzee’ so Venlo is more then 2 hours away for me. I would love to go to some sellers in Germany, Schwerter or lucke etc. But also a very long drive, so maybe one day! :D

      The Orchid SaGa oh I see! Well yeah, I work 14 min from lucke , they are really nice and prices are fair. Schwerters is about 40 min away From where I live, and Wichmann and Karge are about 30 min from where my partners family lives.
      I’ve only seen one like yours at lucke once, but couldn’t save the plant.

I know your channel from the days that I did a lot of research on the Miltoniopsis! :D You have a beautiful collection of them as well!

    Hello there I don't have this type of orchids in my collection are these orchids water loving type orchid or constant moisture around their roots? Thank you for sharing your care tips it's a great video. Have a great day stay safe and happy growing. : )

      @TheOrchidSaGa  3 года назад +1

      Yes, Miltoniopsis likes to be moist all the time. And a bit cooler temps. They can be a bit harder to grow at first for many people including me, but if you don't give up on them, you should find a way to keep them happy! :D

    Hello, enjoying all your videos. Have you done a care video for your vanda if so may I have a link to it. Thank you in advance

      First of all I do apologize for my VERY late response to your comment. YT didn't give me a notification so I missed it.. I will do a care video on my vandas soon I hope. I did change the setup again. I do grow them in glass vases again as I did before I did put them in clay pots. I did try out a different setup but I didn't work. Glass vases always work for me but the algae.... So that is why I tried something different. But it wasn't working. So as soon as they are growing/blooming again I definitely will do a care video on them! Thanks for your great question and your patience!

    I just got an xxl miltoniopsis from an orchid shop and I’m not sure where to start with it. The roots are exposed and the 4” pot is about half too small. Should I split it in half or put in an 8” pot? It has one stalk with one bloom. Some of its leaves are a bit yellow. 😞

      Depends, but I like to grow my plants as big as I can, so I do not split them if I don't have too. Do you grow in self watering? If you don't, you might want to use a fairly small pot. So the roots do not stay to wet to long, but don't let them dry out!

    Cool! What do the pebbles do?

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  3 года назад +1

      They are there to avoid a dry top layer. With the pebbles on top I keep the humidity higher in the pots. It really helps in my climate and with strong airflow.
