    Let K'naan live. Somali people never had a more patriot person than K'naan. He never represent a qabiil while the majority of you are clan worshippers. Even if he is exploiting the Somali community, none Somalis do that all the time so why envy him to get that money instead of none Somalis. Even if K'naan quits this program HBO can bring a none Somali narrator and will still sell the story. And what that makes you is you are just envying a Somali being in there. "Somali Somali kale waxba uma ogolo"

    I really enjoyed watching this. Having an inside look into the persecutive of both sides was amazing. I totally support and appreciate what K'naan is doing and I look forward to watching the series. I also understand the fear that the 3 youth were expressing. I think if it were my community, I would be a bit weary too. I guess at the end of the day mainstream media will portray the narrative as they wish, the only thing we can do it take some control. We have to direct the narrative and I think that is what he is doing. Alhamdulilah.
    To the people of that city, don't be scared or worried because we have Allah, what more do we need? At the end of the day this life is a mere test. Seize the opportunity and transcend beyond what they (mainstream media) label us and remember it could always be worse so Alhamdulilah to anything and everything that comes our way!

      Iman maybe we aren't getting the whole story is this a drama or a fake news show I support it if no faux documentary is used in the "creative stylings". I hate most Somali I hear but I know it's because I keep trying to personally racist in their favor and I'm disappointed because I expected too much.

    In my mind Somalis are supreme. I come from Eritrea and since my childhood i have a profound love for Somali people. This land and its people represent true greatness and Knaan is a result of that, let him tell the story.

    • @ikra7749
      @ikra7749 7 лет назад

      GHERMAI SEMIRA Eritrean's don't have this stigma following them around that they are of a place full of radical Islamic terrorists and an unstable government full of famine and drought. For those who know Somali people they no that's not the case but some westerners still believe this. What we need is a positive representation of our rich culture to battle this toxic stereotype.

    I appreciating the editing style, highlights that one side is arguing from a place filled with assumptions (making claims with no evidence). I think the worst possible outcome out of this situation is if HBO were to strip an AMAZING (and a once-in-a-lifetime, HBO is the pinnacle of TV shows) opportunity away from someone in the community. I can help but view the opposing arguments as the all to common 'crabs-in-a-bucket' mentality in our community. Rather than believe that K'Naan has creative control (you know, arguing the somehow being the director and writer no longer means creative control), we argue he's a pawn. We as community need to support each other when chartering into new territory, rather than formulating assumptions to cause strain. This opportunity will be a data point for all future Somali written/directed TV shows and movies. You can't make assumptions about an outcome without any data points (and Kathleen Bigelow's history are not RELEVANT data points. In both movies mentioned she was the writer and director, a position she does not hold in this case).

    To be quite fair Knaan is wadani and he loves he's country! He wouldn't do anything that would bring shame or negative attention to Somalia 🇸🇴 even thou the youngsters have a valid point, I hope both sides come to a mutual understanding and agreement Insha Allah khair!

    There was one African American movie actor who said, "we made too many drug dealers movies in America why don't we make different movie now?" I don't remember his name. Anyway I totally agree with these three young activists because Knaan can't change the direction HBO wants to take this film.

    • @burhanisrafaelbel6
      @burhanisrafaelbel6 7 лет назад +7

      Karma Farrah the white man is already telling that story from a white racialized Frame. You can't deny that Hollywood exploits sensationalized stories like this. It says a lot that the first thing you think of is that someone is in denial...your self hatred is noted.

    • @zaynab99
      @zaynab99 7 лет назад +5

      "Your self hatred". Criticizing oneself and your people for things they should improve should not be seen as self hatred rather a movement of improvement. If a nation just believes that nothing is wrong, looking at society through one stroke of grey, then nothing will change. You have to admit something is wrong, it's the first step. And yes men like you that attack when someone who has different opinion aren't part of the solution but the problem. You're entitled to your opinion as i am to mine. Salam

    • @burhanisrafaelbel6
      @burhanisrafaelbel6 7 лет назад +2

      Karma Farrah what solutions are you bringing but same old "it's our fault" logic that you Developed through living in this white supremacist world? it's obvious from what's happening in Somalia that we believe it's our fault and look where that self blame has taken us..no where..and it's ironic that you think I'm a yes man when you've failed to challenge the world and how it defines you as a black man...and I'm sorry to say but this opinion that you claim to be yours Isn't really yours..stop regurgitating self hating arguments.

    • @zaynab99
      @zaynab99 7 лет назад +6

      One thing you fail to understand is that regardless of you pushing this 'brainwashed' narrative on me, it's false. Yes, societal imaging and the media are a dominant force, it however is NOT a determining one. As a prideful somali female, i believe that we have to acknowledge there is a problem first, why is our country so radicalized when other muslim countries are not. Part of the solution is accepting that there is a problem rather than denying it exists at all or faulting others for an opinion. In what way has Somalia taken responsibility or blame as you put it? I haven't failed to 'challenge the world', believe me i face challenges everyday living in the west. Idiots who think i'm a nurse rather than a qualified ER doctor just based on my SKIN and gender. Don't you dare think i'm not aware. It's not regurgitating hateful arguments, i'm doing more in finding a solution than you denying there is one, or thinking that ACKNOWLEDGING that there is a problem is justified as self hate speech. Salam

    any drama needs to sensationalise it's script to attract a bigger audience other than the somali community or it won't make money. the protests is neccessary to give light to the communities concern. I think the community should create a gofund me account to create a documentary debunking the HBO narrative. Stopping keynaan is not the solution. everyone is justified..and all the best from uk.

    I have so many Somali friends in US from VA, DC, Ohio, Minnesota and they may have tribal issues and other negatives but as people what group don't have issues. One thing I can say is that Somali when you get to know them are the sweetest friendliest Africans from the continent. They are so full of character and I love Somali people extremely smart and talented group. I love Kanaan but like the young man sitting the middle at the end if the day, those with the money have the final say. So I would hate for HBO use Kanaan to exploit his people. However, good could come out it but I would hate for them to be exploited and Somali people story twisted. So I just want to support these youth protesting but sometimes young people know best.

  • @prettyz133

    K’naan has the best of interest of his people and a lot of these ppl who are mad at this are nothing but clan worshippers. Somalis are never honest about the issues that are facing in their community but instead put fingers at each other. How can we possibly move forward if we can’t be honest with each other? Our community is completely radicalized and the groupthinking is out of control. Whenever a fellow Somali is doing something good for the community, even when it benefits the people y’all hated on them. Y’all hate to see progress amongst your own. What ever happened to unity and having pride?
    Y’all lack that in every aspect. K’naan won’t dare to exploit his people since he’s a wadani. This man isn’t even a tribalist like a lot of you Somalis are. While being a homogenous country y’all can’t seem to united amongst your own people.

We don't need the Turks and Arabs, westerners to rebuild our lacking ans very abysnal society, Knaan speaks the truth and he is a true Wadani, all you Takfiri Saudi lovers ans Erdogan worshipers should take note. One day Somalia will be at peace and stable and very, very productive.

    K'naan is known for carrying the Somali Flag, not the flags of xyzLand or abcLand, his actions in the past speak louder than the assumptions that that three young somalis from cedar made, We always worry about how the outside world sees us Somalis but not how we actually treat each other, Knaan is Young, Black, Somali, immigrant and Muslim man trying to break an industry that is hard for anyone with the categories he belongs to. let him break into the industry, let him tell his story, We Somalis always fail to give each other a chance, Generally people are sick and tired of Stereotypes, Maybe HBO saw in Knaan a chance to have a fresh lens, different story line, and we Somalis may not trust any media but Knaan the most Wadani I know undisputedly.
    * I smell a lot of Qabyaalad involvement.

Maybe it has to be the vehicle because as some have said they won't make a tv series or film without it because we have to admit add a bit of excitement and intrigue to a story . Anyway we'll see what he does if it's any good cool if not then we'll have something more to talk about

    knaan is wadani or patriot so we expect nothing but good from him, these Somalis only know how to protest against another somali patriot. how many non somali wrote and narrate about somali community and islam but no somali protested about it but when somali come and wants to right things up ... they go around protest and act all like they care about somali community and islam. smh as they say familiarity breeds contempt.

    Hmm, tough subject, and I fully understand and respect everyone's point of view. I absolutely adore Knaan and I believe it's amazing that he has this fantastic opportunity to create something about Somali people. Regarding the story line... i think perhaps some people are being too critical. This is what people want to see... drama, conspiracy, betrayal, romance among a few other things - it's what sells like the brother said. No one would tune in if the show was about everyday Somali life with dads at the marfish or masajid and Hooyos doing school runs, shopping and cooking and their friends and family coming over for some shah and neighbourhood gossip. That's something that would appeal to us Somalis who know and grew up with this life, but to appeal to a broader audience you have to add a bit more seasoning and spice - you need good old controversy to make people curious so they'll tune in. Muslims being recruited by ISIS and black men hanging around street corners hustling is a reality that still happens today. It's not smth Knaan has invented or something he endorses, but just a story he is telling.
    Knaan has never forgotten where he came from, he is someone that loves Somalis and Africans as whole. Someone who continuously gives to his people. Did you know that he requested that every department involved in the making of this series has to hire at least one Somali? He is not a Faraax, but a very smart guy, so he deserves our support. Let him get his 60mil, soon enough he won't need Hollywood.

  • @simrsm5908

    I believe the Somali Americans are overreacting about what's all based about fiction and is nothing but a just tv entertainment. Standing against and underestimating a young Somalian man who's trying to step forward and doing something that's new to the community in the name of the community instead of incentive advocation is extremely nonsense. Quote "he's from Canada, he doesn't know much about Somalian American's lives" well, all these Hollywood stereotypical successful movies based on foreign (non-American's) history phenomenon aren't made by its very own people. K'NAAN had been familiar with Hollywood for a while now and stayed in America for a period of time, unlike these protesters he went to Africa and witnessed the real life in home. He's prusiting his stunning work I believe though he's probably having demanding time to alter his people's notions. Let the young man renovate the emphasized Somali's reputation. Sustain the great work brother! May Allah be with you.
