  • Discussing Protestant retrieval.
** I might have falsely attributed Discourses on Livy to Rousseau instead of Machiavelli. It dawned on me while in the shower this morning.

Regarding the military corruption, neocons, universalist instinct: David Hackworth’s autobiography About Face is an excellent picture of this. He got in the army right after WW2 and slowly realized in the Korea and Vietnam era that there was no clear, achievable goal for the wars the US was fighting. In fact, the higher ups were basically saboteurs and opposed measures that could have been effective (e.g., fighting the VC using guerrilla tactics). It’s all a big game for them, the blood spilled doesn’t matter at all. Toward the end of his book, he mentions buddies of his who were studs, made it to general, and tried to reform things from the inside, but were pushed out bc of things like opposing women being within artillery range on the battlefield, etc. It was a huge eye-opener for me, to see that the trajectory our government has been on has been evil way before the endless wars in the Middle East. Highly recommend the book.

Great topics! I find it refreshing to see someone younger (I'm Gen X) being so bold with right-wing views, and especially from the Christian perspective. I liked debunking the idea that America was multi-cultural from the beginning, and I really enjoyed the topic of how being a Nazi is the worst thing you can be in the post war era, and contrasting Nazi with Stalinist or communist. I thought the Millennial generation was completely and hopelessly lost, so I am always surprised to see actual right-wingers, bold and articulate in this age group. It's very encouraging.

Millennial here. Stephen’s work, along with guys like AD Robles, King’s Hall bros, CJay Engel & Andrew Isker, and Jon Harris are definitely influencing guys out there.
I was a very pietistic Christian, but always had this feeling in my gut like, “How is this appealing to masculine, truly right wing guys?” Something always felt effeminate and defeatist about it - not the gospel, but the posture of Christians.
So there are far right guys out there, but some of us keep our heads down for now, trying to keep our jobs as we find people we can trust. My children will be homeschooled and far right, 100%.

I guess I want to know way more about the post war consensus. Are we talking about the UK one? When I look up the term it's all UK politics.

PWC is an umbrella term that refers to, but is not limited to, the following ideologies: internationalism, proceduralism, egalitarianism, multiculturalism, mass migration, corporatism, etc.

1:12:21 your comments here, particularly your example about the British, are true. The first peoples vilified culturally in this country were southerners, post civil war, then Germans, during WWI. It has been taboo for over a century to be proud of ones Southern or German herritage without being labled a racist or Natzi.

Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) is about as right-wing as a Presbyterian denomination can possibly be. Even among covenanters.

The description of protestant retrieval around 0:17:20 very accurately encapsulates my thinking on the reformers and puritans. They are better logicians. Their arguments are better and their argumentation is better. This was a major factor that caused me to be persuaded of reformed covenant theology and infant baptism.
Having grown up in an SBC evangelical context, there were several major hurdles that had to be overcome, at least three of which you happened to address. The false notions that 1. Logic and reason are contrary to, or independent of, the scriptures. 2. Arguing any kind of authority from history amounts to Roman Catholicism. 3. The best theological system is one that is built completely from scratch by the individual Christian (or maybe your pastor).
Baptist theology contains good impulses on these above points, but ultimately cannot withstand arguments from reason, experience, and scripture, all of which are in perfect agreement as God's ministers of truth.
