I watch you every Friday but rarely comment. I just want you to know how much I love your channel. You talk on lots of things that I look forward to seeing you’ve posted. Not a big home remedy girl but I do try to follow some things. Green tea, cinnamon in my coffee for inflammation, same with turmeric ( I add just a titch). I had your cold but with it the WORST sore throat ever. Nothing helped either big pharm or natural- worst 4 days ever! I’m not sick a lot so I’m always surprised when I am! I’m going to look for your favorite tshirt top. I’m 5’10” -and I don’t see a lot of tall sewists to follow-so many things you make I’d love to do but wow-I have to alter all patterns to fit my height and now-late 60’s my bust and belly. So home remedies sounds like a plan! Thanks for all you do! I could never do the editing you you tubers have to do!
Thank you so much!! That cold. Everyone has been complaining. Just awful. As for being tall, I’m 5’6” and that tshirt was pretty long on me, might not take a whole lot of adjusting for you. 🤷🏼♀️ Good luck! ❤❤❤
I’m 65 now, American living in Canada, but in my 30s I used to work at JoAnn’s in Annapolis MD 😁 We used to get a great discount so we’d never leave with a full paycheck!! 😂
I recently purchased that pattern too because I remembered a sewist here on RUclips saying it was her favorite T-shirt pattern. We all need perfectly fitting basics like t-shirts in our wardrobe. Anyway, I am against toxic, expensive allopathic medicine (with greed as its motive to operate) and a huge supporter of natural, herbal and homeopathic remedies. For headaches I often use homeopathic Belladonna 30c. It is cheap, safe and effective. Another way to get rid of headaches is to soak your feet in hot water to dilate the blood vessels of the lower body and redirect the blood flow to your feet from the upper body. At any rate, I think there is a huge change happening in US healthcare, because I see more and more people turning away from this profit-driven, unethical modern medicine system because they are disgusted/ poisoned/harmed by it and/or they can't afford. Elderberry syrup is great for colds/flu/coughs. Perhaps you could show us how to make your sister's recipe. And yes, I would love to hear you talking about traditional, herbal medicine.
Oh my gosh! We need to hang out so I can learn from you. I just never gave home remedies much thought and now I want to know it all! I do not trust the drug companies the way I used to. 🤷🏼♀️ Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
OMG Tang!!! I'm right there with you Stephanie - can't wait to hear about some remedies that work. I've also hopped on board making size 14 shoulder/collar/neckline and grading out to 20/22 as well and it really works for me as well. So many good tips here - I just love your upbeat channel!
I’m so glad I watched your video! Of course, I always am lol 😆! I love the tshirt you are wearing…I really need to make some new tshirts. I’m excited to hear you talk about home remedies. Being a DIYer at heart, I’ve always done home remedies. (I’m 59 yrs old.) One of my main interests is medicinal herbs…foraging, growing, preserving, and using. I’ve collected many books on this subject, as well. I’m excited to see you do a video on home remedies you’ve come across! ❤️
I love Palmer/Pletsch those are the patterns that have helped me with my fitting. All of their patterns have the adjustment lines. They used to be McCalls patterns, but now they’ve moved over to Butterick I always have to do a full bust adjustment on a patterns. I do a few home remedies for different things. I’m not really quick to take medication for anything. I drink elderberry tea on a regular.
Love the t-shirt!! And how cool that you want to explore a more holistic approach to your daily health! There are so many things that truly work and are better for our bodies!
Now I want a Joann pattern sale for Butterick. I want to try this pattern. I’m alway looking for a good t shirt pattern. The home remedy sharing sounds like fun. I so forward to your Friday sews videos. Thank you
I have a home remedy story for you. My husband and I are snowbirds (we like to travel to warmer weather during the winter). A few years ago I caught a terrible cold during our trip. My brother -in-law told me that I should drink a hot toddy. Neither my hubby or I drink alcohol. So my brother -in-law brought over the ingredients and made me one. It definitely helped my cold. When they left our place he offered to leave the whiskey so I could have another dose later. We found a small bottle that had previously held our one dosage nutritional drink and it was the perfect size for one more hot toddy's worth of whiskey. We put it in a special place in the frig so we wouldn't mistake it for our brain nutrients. Two weeks later we unpacked and headed home. Later my husband decided to grab his brain nutrients and slammed it (on an empty stomach), only it wasn't his brain nutrients that he slammed. His eyes watered, his face turned red. He hooted and hollared and jumped around a little bit. I really shouldn't have laughed, but honestly it was the best laugh of our summer!
Hi Stephanie, I stumbled on your channel, you seem like someone I would hang out with. I don't typically watch sew-a-longs, mainly because I've been sewing since I was 11 and I've pretty much stopped buying and using commercial patterns. I discovered how SIMPLE pattern drafting is so now that's my go to. But back to your wanting to get back to home remedies. About 10 years ago I started with essential oils and other old timey remedies, I think at first my family and friends thought I was you know "the wacky one" but now I'm the one they ask for a advice when they're just not feeling well. Who knew? Anyway, you're on the right path of learning what people did before big pharma. Think Apothecary, what items would they stock? Oh and I'm fairly positive that the "Boomers" go thorough 1964 , so there you go, you're not on the cusp. Have a great day and thanks for your video.
Love your t-shirt. Great idea on Grandmas home remedies. I think they say I was the silent generation, born 1942. ????? No fast food until we started having kids. Then we thought it was awesome because we worked all the time and it was easy to take fast food home and no cooking. I don't know for sure when the meds came in. I'm thinking sometime in my generation. I don't remember my mom having any home remedies but then she was a city girl and a girly girl. She loved it.
I loved your last sew along video! I have this t-shirt pattern too and will definitely sew along with you! You explain so well, and simply. I need simple!!😂
I don't know how I missed this video 3 weeks ago🙂🙃but I love home remedies and would love to find some good ones that work, especially for sinus pain/headache.... I have this pattern and I had read the fitting instructions but this was before I had 'learned' about fitting to your actual size, and didn't realize I needed that FBA. For the neckband issue, I always measure the neckline and multiply by about 85-90% depending on the fabric, and cut the neckline down to that number. I'm not sure if it does work on Vnecks, I haven't done one in a while, but it works for crew and scoop necklines fantastically!! I would love a sew along so I can re-visit this pattern!! 🥰-Mary
I'm reading an older copy of a Palmer Pletsch fitting book now. Thank you for sharing a peek at one of the pattern pieces. My big goal for this year it to get comfortable fitting a simple bodice, but frankly decided to dial it back to dolman sleeves in woven and knit. Both of the patterns I picked have full bust options, so mainly I'll be working on shortening the patterns in the right places and likely changing the slope of the shoulders. I'm a remedy/herbal/oil fan, but I recommend that any discussion of them in a public forum be prefaced with a disclaimer and recommendation for individuals to do their own research and consult a health practitioner. Thanks again!
I also am a size 14 at the neck and shoulders, a 16 with fba at the bust and an 18 to 20 at the waist and hips. I also have to shorten the bodice by at least 1”. It won’t fit otherwise.
A few years ago I had a stye in my eye . A friend suggested I try putting a warm tea bag over it instead of a the hot compresses I’d been using. It really worked. Teabags are now my go to for insect bites and pimples, too.
I have had this pattern for a while - It was McCall's 6964 from about 8-9 years ago. I actually have not made it yet; I really don't know why! Now that you have recommended it, I'll for sure have to make it soon.
I also have the McCall's 6964. I will have to revisit it now. I must have made it at some point years ago because I made notes on it....one being to shorten collar interfacing as well.
Love your nail polish color - so fun! I get headaches often - I've tried lots of home remedies - I haven't found one that works. But would be interested to hear what you find!
I think there are some simple things that can be treated at home, but I think if we went back 100 years and offered those people modern medicine, they would think they were in heaven. Medicines were created because home remedies were not good enough. I do like home remedies that are put out by medical professionals though, like simple things you can do to help yourself with ailments. For headaches, one of the most common causes is dehydration, so drinking a bunch of water and eating a healthy meal can sometimes make it go away. But sometimes that water needs to be used to take some Advil 😄
I agree with what you said. I’ve also heard to try the glass of water first…then the Advil. I think it’s a little of all of it. And, man, no one would want to give up modern dentistry! Or so many other things. But I’m happy I found a natural cough syrup…it’s made from elderberries. It worked wonders. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 my sister in law is going to show me how to make it this fall. 😊
I don’t have separate clothes for all the seasons. Everything hangs in the closet, n if it’s hot I wear sleeveless, n if it’s cold I wear long sleeves. Cant trust SoCal weather 😮
This is a great pattern designed by Palmer Pletch. Their method of adjusting patterns is amazing and always fit so well if you follow their direction. I have their fitting book and it is excellent.Look forward to seeing your Harper cardi. Hope to try that soon! Do you have any issues with your needle staying in your Pfaff? I have been having major issues. Brought it to different repair services and one said there was nothing wrong and got the needle to stay in and then I could not get it out to change it and now it won’t stay in . The other person said I sew too much! What a comment! I tried the medicine bomb tea mixture from Starbucks and it was so yummy. Looked on line to buy the teabags and they were way outside of my budget. Teavana Jade Citrus and a Peach. Will try to find a substitute. I am really into natural remedies. I love Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger tea with blackberry brandy. Not sure how natural that is but it sure makes me feel better! Enjoy your chats, so much fun. Happy Sewing!
I have a couple of natural remedies that I use. Manuka Honey or natural unprocessed honey on large open wounds also don't know if you have Pawpaw ointment in the US but hubby and I used it for all kinds of small wounds and bites.💜🪻
