To get rid of the stiffness from acrylic paint on canvass (without using fabric medium) please mix one half water and one half acrylic paint. Please don't mix glycerin to acrylic paint (that turns it into a oil like paint that never dries),also please don't mix fabric softener into acrylic paint either because that makes the acrylic paint totally wash out even after it's been drying for 24 hours.Fabric softener may actually be one of the few things that could get acrylic paint stains out of fabric.
adrienne gellman: Hey, Adrienne ...will this work for making my own designs on tshirts...? Was due to buy a Thinning liquid (which is utterly overpriced) tomorrow ...yet if simply using water works, that would be amazing, while also keeping my costs down.
You have a knack for teaching your talent. They are all beautiful. I'm filled with admiration for you and hope you do well your items. They are all beautiful. I wish I could do this. Absolutely excellent painting and great tutorial. 👍👍👌👏👏👏💖
You had explained very well and in details. Had always wondered whether I could use acrylic paint on fabric painting. Now you cleared my doubts. Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos!! You have such a relaxing voice, and your explanations are so detailed, it's incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for making these : )
April Numamoto your vids are just amazing..I have been watching alot of your videos because I'm working on my school's art mural.its jungle themed and my teacher wants leaves, flowers, and animals so watching your vids help me mix colors and do flowers 💖💖💖👌👌💐💐💐💐
Wow. What an excellently-demonstrated video!! Fantastic teaching style, so relaxing, so clear and perfectly-paced. You use accessible verbiage for anyone to understand and make everything look absolutely effortless!! 11/10. From one art instructor to another. ✨👌🏽👍🏽❤️
Her soothing voice and technique made it seem so simple and maybe it was for her but regardless of simplicity I think this was just so beautiful and educational
it was just awsome... i love to paint on fabric.. i already have done many things with paint.. but this rose leason is new to me.. and i am going to try very soon.. but i have request please show us other painting technique like u have shown that peacock painting or other flowers painting too.. u just made them like real one.. thank u in advance.. hoping u will teach us
Thank you so much for watching. You can also go to Curious.com for more lessons. I share with you how to paint on many other surfaces. hanks again for watching.
Hello! I'm working on creating a custom backpack for my last year. The fabric is the tougher kind from Jansport. Will the acrylic paint be flaky/last without the paint thinner? I know it doesn't come off fabric easily, but will it look flaky? Thank you!
Without the fabric medium, the acrylic paint may crack a little after a while. Not chip and flake off but may show some fine lines sinc most acrylic paints tend to dry stiff. With the medium it will dry flexible. Hope that helps.
Gorgeous! You're wonderfully talented. You have inspired me to learn to paint on fabric. Thanks so much for making this video, April... I'm going to watch many more of them! Take care. :)
I have fabric painted before but never saw the recommendation to put the medium directly on the fabric first. I like that idea! It seems much more efficient and you don't have to worry about leftover paint that has been mixed with the medium. Would you use this technique on t-shirt painting and other items as well?
You can pick up the paint and then dip into the medium if you don't want to premix. You can apply the medium to the fabric and appy the paint. You can use this technique on t shirts and other items as long as the paint is still mixing with the medium. If you do a lot of painting on fabric, try using So Soft Paints, another technique for fabric painting. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it will. Make sure you put freezer paper or something to block the paint from seeping through since cotton is a lot thinner fabric than the canvas. Thank you for watching.
Great work!! Thank you so much for letting us know the fabric procedures.. Can you do the same for T-Shirts? and how would the washing of the shirt go if I do so?
My bad.. Hey April i already got the answer for my question. It was in the comment section all along. Everybody is also asking this question. Thanks for this tutorial by the way.
should i mix in some fabric medium every time I take some colour from the palette? and could you give some idea of how long the paint lasts and how you are supposed to wash the clothes? thank you for the great video and lovely tutorial
Before picking up more paint, just dip the brush into the medium. You don't need a lot. You can use water also to help spead the paint easier. Make sure to heat set it with an iron or put it in the dryer on high for about 15 minutes. I recommend hand washing it or put it in the washing machinge on the hand washing cycle. Hang dry and iron if it needs it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Give it a try. It really is easy. Make sure you wet the fabric before applying the paint. It will make the paint spread easier. Thank you for watching.
Can we just appreciate the camera man too because he have holding the camera for 22 minutes such a pain btw thank you for making this wonderful tutorial 💜
A fantastic video!! When you initially apply the fabric medium directly onto the fabric, does it need to stay wet, or is it ok if it dries? I have a large background to paint, and the medium will dry in some sections before I get to them.
For some reason she reminds me of comedian Melissa McCarthy. This is a compliment. I keep thinking of the office skit but here’s a different one: ruclips.net/video/6gPnaWhcEbo/видео.html
I see you're using Americana brand paint. I've never used them but I have used Apple Barrel, Folkart, Dahler Rowney and Master's Touch. Apple Barrel and Folkart are pretty thin...is this preferable for this technique or could you use a thicker bodied paint? Dahler Rowney is fairly heavy but the label doesn't indicate that I don't think...Master's Touch that I use is heavy bodied. Nicely done demo, thanks!
Hello, for this technique, thick paint is not what you want to use. They will tend to chip off after awhile. What's important is using paint that has more pigment and glides easily. I prefer using Americana or FolkArt if you are using acrylic paints. There are also fabric paints that you can use found at any craft store. If you want dimension in your painting, I suggest using the dimensional fabric paint that will not chip off. Thank you for watching.
I love your work and calm voice.. so nice to listen to you! My question is this: if I wanted to incorporate embroidery with a painted design; would embroidering thru the paint( once dry of course) possible? Or should I plan the design avoiding the painted areas? Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work and talent! Kathleen
Yes, it is possible. I would try to keep the paint thin, so use the fabric medium or just use fabric paint.. I would heat set it after your painting has dried before embroidering. Use a hot iron on the back side of the painting or put in the dryer for 15-20 minutes. Thanks for watching.
Your painting skills are amazing...I love watching you paint madam...Shall be painting this flower soon on my pillow cover...Hope it comes well...I have no clue about painting..Thanks fr the lesson..
iShrimpEater you can always make a stencil, if you can't draw you can always print out what design you want to do and make a stencil and apply it to your fabric.
Has anyone called you the lady version of Bob Ross? Because you're a very encouraging teacher and you have such a soothing voice 😊💖

What if for the life of you you can't draw but you want to put designs onto fabric that would take a decent amount of skill to draw it?
iShrimpEater you can always make a stencil, if you can't draw you can always print out what design you want to do and make a stencil and apply it to your fabric.
