    I'm just starting out with the Inktense pencils and watching your video taught me so much and gave me the confidence I needed. Being in my mid 70's I believe you are never too old to learn something new - particularly when it is craft related and so much fun!!! Thank you so much and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Have a great day.☺

    I loved this doodle, the way you transferred it to the canvas bag and the colours you chose.
    Just quickly I would say that, if you don’t want the colour to bleed you are better off using a textile medium as the colour activation liquid rather than water. The other thing to say is the all Inktense on fabric should be heat set. This is usually done with an iron with a light piece of fabric set over the area to be set. Once that is done it is safe to wash.

    Oh my goodness what FUN this was to watch - and so many helpful hints and tips as you worked. This is SO pretty!!! I had no idea you could use Inktense on canvas, but I have never owned a set. I’ve seen them used, but not this way! I adore functional art - especially mixed media functional art. ❤ Thank you for such a sweet lesson Stephanie!!!! More more more please!!!! This was amazeballs!!!

      Thank you Mary! One of the things I really liked about the finished piece is how soft it is - unlike acrylic paint that is stiff and can crack depending on how thick the paint was put on.
      I need to wash my bag and give an update on how it did.

      Awe thank you! I always try to remember that things can be turned around and will usually work out when I stay calm and relaxed with my art. It’s just a couple dollars of materials and my time- if it isn’t working out and I’m getting super frustrated I will just set it aside for a while - get a drink of water and maybe step outside for a bit. When I come back with fresh eyes I can usually see a way to make it work.
      I’m always going to add more plants 🌱 if I can. 😊 thank you for your lovely comments! I appreciate you taking the time to write!

      If you are asking about technical aspects, I don't want to put you to a lot of trouble and/or expense, but I think it would be interesting to see a comparison (maybe on one piece of fabric?) with six identical subjects (maybe a rose?) done in Inktense pencils, v. Inktense blocks, v. Inktense paints (if you have them). Also, can you explain if it would make a difference between using them with water v. fabric medium?

    Hi Stephanie! I stumbled on to your video because I would love to know how to doodle....and learn to be brave enough to actually try (seriously, I can't even draw stick figures!) BUT...I can paint once I get a design traced onto a surface. I wanted to say that I thought this piece turned out fabulous! I'm maybe mistaken, but it seems that perhaps you're new to fabric coloring? If you've never tried using fabric medium instead of water, I really encourage you to pick up a bottle and give it a try--you can buy it at just about any craft store--Joann's, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc., and it's really inexpensive. It looks like a milky whitish fluid, but it does not impart any color at all. The big plus in using it is that it isn't water so when you moisten your brush with it and use it on the pencil, the colors won't bleed into the surrounding areas like water does. In this particular piece you did, bleeding was just fine, but if you ever want to do something more detailed and controlled, the fabric medium will definitely make your life so much easier. You'd use it just like you did your water--you can even "clean" your brush in it by moistening the bristles in it and then wiping it on a paper towel/towel/etc. I also find that its slickery texture gives me more time to blend colors together so they flow one into another rather than leaving behind stop and start "lines" where I put multiple different colors together, like leaf tips one color, leaf middles another color and then leaf bases yet another color. Should you ever want to use acrylic paint to paint doodled totes (to gift or to sell), may I recommend DecoArt So-Soft paints--they actually do leave the finished piece soft, pliable and incredibly long lasting. I have sweatshirts I painted more than 20 years ago that still look and feel wonderful no matter how many times I've washed them in the washing machine and tossed them in the dryer (inside out). I hope this information is helpful to you and I thank you so much for the wonderful video you recorded. You do inspire "bravery"!

    • @DeliberatelyCreative
      @DeliberatelyCreative  Год назад +1

      Thank you for your wonderful information- yes I have used fabric medium before and it is makes for lovely blending etc. I mostly shared this using water because many folks have the Inktense and they just eat to get a quick taste of how they will work on fabric.

    • @DeliberatelyCreative

      Yes, just do a heat set from the inside - would certainly be fine in the rain 🌧️ the colors may fade a bit - just cold water wash then dry - I’m not sure if the bag would shrink- mine is 100% recycled cotton.

    Wish I could draw like you but I cannot….I have coloring books as I color. Please tell me how I could transfer a coloring page to a canvas bag. I have the canvas and the Inktense pencils. Thank you! I really love your drawing!

    • @DeliberatelyCreative
      @DeliberatelyCreative  10 месяцев назад +1

      There’s lots of ways to transfer your coloring pages to the canvas- get a photo copy/scan of the page and blow it up to the size you need at a copy store. Then you can put the bag over a bright window or a light pad and trace the design, or you can get some transfer paper at the craft store and trace on top of the copy to transfer to the canvas- or if you have an app like DaVinci Eye you can use it to transfer.
      Hope that helps!!

    I’m wondering if you had a problem with bleeding? It doesn’t look like it, so I’m wondering if maybe it’s the fabric. So many tutorials on using inktense pencils on fabric warns against using water because of the bleeding.

    • @DeliberatelyCreative
      @DeliberatelyCreative  Год назад

      Thank you for watching and your question! I don’t have any problem with the colors bleeding in the canvas bags. It could be the thickness of the fabric. I was saturating the areas with enough water that the pigments were blending and smoothing out.
      I haven’t ever used a fabric medium but I have heard from others that it works for blending out the colors. I may need to get some to test on both the canvas bags and also on thinner cotton fabrics.
