    Terrific! i've been experimenting with Inktense for some time now, and incredibly, I've never tried beginning with a wash the way you did here, though I often begin watercolors in that way. Thank you for the inspiration!

    I'm so glad to see someone who appreciates Inktense. So many people don't understand them. I started out with Prismacolors, Poly chromos, and Inktense. That's all I had. 3 incomplete sets of pencils, and I thought I was in heaven. I am subscribing to your channel.

    This is art! Whenever I want to do non photo realism, I ONLY use my sets of 12. I reserve the full 120/150 sets for my more realistic detailed work, and yes, it is daunting and tedious selecting just the right colors!

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much, Rich! I often use a limited color palette when I'm just playing in the sketchbook and experimenting! Like you, I tend to use a lot more colors with my realism, but when I am playing and exploring, it's fun to just have a set color scheme to work with!

    I have a serious question, hoping for some help: please can anyone tell me why I so dislike random splatter in a painting? Honestly, I'm serious - I'm not criticising anyone! It just seems like everyone else loves it, and just suddenly, I decided to ask.
    Shana, I hope you don't mind that I've asked it here? It just feels like a fairly safe place to ask it (there aren't many on ArtTube!).
    The video: This has been really good to watch! I've seen several on Inktense, but this is the first I've seen which has shown so much information in a completely relaxed and informal way, where the artist is completely, genuinely, just having fun, and consequently creating a very relatable and fun painting. Thank you!

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  Год назад

      Hmm. Maybe you just aren't a fan of the messy look? As with anything, it comes down to personal taste. I only favor it for certain artwork. Like, I don't tend to use the splatter technique in my realism work unless a certain texture specifically calls for it, but in work where I am being more playful and painterly like this one, I might add it in. And of course it's okay to ask here! We like to talk all things art here! It's also okay to not like a popular technique. We all have our own tastes. 😊
      I'm glad you liked the video! As always, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!

    For an Inktense palette, I like to use a piece of sanded paper. It pulls off more of the medium and you can activate with a wet brush getting as much (or as little) color concentration as needed. You can also mix colors (dry) right on the sanded paper before activating.

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  Год назад

      Great idea, Nick! And it's something that artists might already have lying around. I hope you have been well!! 💖

    • @barefacedquestions

      Does using sanded paper ruin the brush faster? I use a cheap brush anyway but just want to ask.

    • @nickedgar6706
      @nickedgar6706 8 месяцев назад +1

      I can’t imagine it would. The sanded surface makes it easy to “grate” the dry colors (and mix them in a dry form) so there’s little need for much brush agitation to activate the ink.

    Shana, your psychedelic shroom picture looks so cool! I need to get out my Inktense and use them, they're very neglected. I only have the 24 piece set, but I figured that I could save some money by getting the smaller set and mixing my own colors if needed. I would love to see you use Polychromos, Derwent Lightfast and/or Caran d'ache Luminance on the Clairefontaine Pastelmat, or another drawing on the Canson Artboards. I just bought both from Jerry's Artarama and would love to see a video on these items. I'm a bit intimidated to use the Pastelmat because of the expense of it, even after buying it "on sale"...Whew, lol!!!

      Thank you, Cheryl! I was just thinking about doing another Artboard video, I still have the others that I need to review! I must admit, I haven't worked on the Pastelmat much, for the same reason you have mentioned. Its price does make it feel more precious. In fact, I think I have only used pastels on it and haven't really played with colored pencils on it much yet, even though I bought it specifically for colored pencils, lol. I do have some on hand, so I will have to do that soon. Thanks for the suggestions! 💖

    *also a huge fan of these pencils and pigments for what they are capable of which is far above my current skill set...constantly experimenting/messing about with what i can do with them especially with mixed media and layering techniques both subtle or more pronounced...probably need to invest in the half pan/blocks since i use them so often...have a set of the graphitint half pans and they are so expressive even if there are lightfast and overall archival issues but not much of an issue for what i do...my finished work is scanned and posted to my deviantart gallery as soon as it's completed then stored away in a dark place away from all forms of light until needed...enjoyable review as always*
    *also might get some interesting textural/fluidity results by adding a bit of Qor watercolor medium to these colors before they dry...possible off camera dabbling/experimental swatches...maybe*

      They wash off pretty easily with water. There can be some faint staining of certain colors but not really anything that is too distracting. It doesn't affect the texture or anything, just a faint tint here and there.

      I have the Inktense pans of 24. I really love them. I don't have any blocks or pencils yet. I just wish the pans and blocks came in all the convenience colors the pencils do.
      I'd like to see glazing and layering Inktense. I don't mean layering by having color side-by-side in the same composition but actually adding one glaze over another in a build-up without it turning to mud. 🍃

    • @CautionArtistatPlay
      @CautionArtistatPlay  9 месяцев назад

      They offer a 72 set of blocks, I don't know if they have added colors to the blocks like they did the pencils to make a full 100 yet. But they do offer a lot of colors in their regular sized blocks. I believe they might have some XL blocks now, too, but I don't know how many colors they have in that. It would be nice if they expanded the amount of pans they offer, though. I just use my blocks as pans anyway.
      I love doing transparent layers in Inktense. That's how I do most of my pieces. I will see if I can do a video soon that demonstrates those techniques more closely. Thanks for the suggestion!! In the meantime, feel free to check out my Inktense playlist, there maybe something in there already that will help you! ruclips.net/p/PL2QyxD4oF_jXIaq1-4-XzFeALwDWxtIFN&si=cqMKm4PjoK8KEByI
