Must be coincidence that Dokken just released a new album. I haven't heard much of it but from different sources I'm told it's classic Dokken including George Lynch. Though I'm told Don Dokken didn't hit to many high notes.
Well, my eyes just bugged out at the first glance of that case, and it wasn't the case itself. I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky in the 1970s and 80s- and I just saw a 98.1 WKQQ Stereo Album Rock radio station sticker using a logo they haven't used in decades. WOW. 👀
@@faustthehammer8706 They're still around, but some years back ClearChannel bought a bunch of stations and swapped some around. Double Q got moved to 100.1 so a local country station could take 98.1 with their more powerful transmitter. (Double Q had a beast of a signal back in the day.)
Rad to see an old Norlin piece on here again... this was the type of stuff that got me watching this channel many moons ago! Nice to see a lot more players showing that era of Gibson some love finally, too!
Tom Woodford of the @twoodfrd RUclips Channel just did a repair on a Les Paul where he re-radiused the bridge that had collapsed. He built a special jig for it and used it in his vise. Just something for you to be aware of. Instead of replacing the original, you can get it restored to it's original radius.
WOW that's an AWESOME Les Paul even with the natural aging. much better than any relic. it's really close to my favorite year of Norlan era LP which is 1976. I definitely like everything about that LP, it even sounds great. now that's a guitar right there. it's definitely one I would like to have if I weren't financially challenged at this time.
What an awesome find. That's real Mojo. Not the stuff the kids are paying for these days. I think the Murphy lab Is For Fools personally and although the pickups aren't exactly original, they sound fantastic! What a cool Norland era player!
You might actually be able to attached the latch! If you have an old soldering iron, you can weld the plastic back together. With such a thing part you can cut out a piece of plastic from something else and use it to bridge it. It's not easy to get perfect, but it is a practice common for rare cracked plastic car parts so if you search it you can get some more tips if you wanna try it out.
70s necks are so good. I had a routed out pancake mahogany neck. Cherry sunburst. I was told by Gibson in the 90s it was a 1970 but they also said its hard to know for sure. I had to sell it after a divorce and going back to school. I do regret that.
I have a 1976 Les Paul Custom and made several videos with it on my channel. It’s my all time favorite guitar. Your videos were super helpful for verification and getting info when I bought it. The T-tops are my all time favorite pickup. This tuxedo version is sweet.
That case lived in central Kentucky for a while. 98.1 WKQQ is a rock station in Lexington. I grew up listening to that station and immediately remember the bumper sticker on that case! 😁
OMG! Dokken is my all time favorite band and I’ve been watching your channel for ages, and somehow never saw this video! How awesome and love that you mentioned Don having one of these, not many people know about that let alone know that he shredded down some crazy guitar solos alongside George! 🤘🔥🤘🎸 Thanks for this awesome video, my jaw dropped when I saw it
Funny how if it was a “Murphy Labs” it would easily have a 5k price bump..But honestly I thought it sounded awesome 💯..You’re rocking Trogly..my two extra cents ..keep that and play it!🤙
I bought a white M3 via your video, very well done, the video!! I had a red M3 as kid I loved, the white one is legit. Its a lil different, inlays are blackish instead of greenish. But its the shredder George Lynch missed out on!!
When you paint a two tone color scheme you always spray the lightest color first and overall then the dark color is the accent. This avoids the darker color bleeding through.
I have a 74 thats all black, just a 74. This is cool, if I were gonna give mine a "Tux" ?? I might just strip the top to bare wood, go with a light coat of clear something. Idea being pulling as much tone out of a vintage top. Maybe relic the back of the neck a bit, lil thin nitro...Its something to ask a luthier??
Mick Ronson sanded his Black Beauty I think it was a 68 to a natural top for more gain sustain like taking pickup covers tricks of hot rodding then ....
Don’t know what you paid, but I may be interested in it. When you list it I’ll see what hand you’re holding. Maybe we can strike a deal. Best playing guitar I own is an all original 1968/69 black beauty. I’m confused about what year but does it have to do with the long or short neck tennon? SN is 5009** Tim Pierce sold his not long ago. It was only, let’s say under 25 digits than his. When the person sold it he said it was a 68/69. I need to know if it’s the tennon that determines? Thanks Trogley!!!!!!
That Shaw worth bucks coveted. Although not stock which you want I'd leave those pickups they sound kill dial & drive !!! The red cream 🎯 Zack early Ozzy is sick!! 💖
I’m confused, too. I heard people call the white custom (with black plastic and gold hardware) the tuxedo. But Musician’s Friend specs also say this guitar is called the tuxedo. Hopefully he can address it for us if he reads these comments.
I hope for your sake what's in that baggie is just rosen that has dried up and turned to powder. We wouldn't want to see you sell the guitar and get arrested for an illegal substance being in that case. I noticed the control cavity had the base plate but no ashtray cover or shield . My Studio Greenburst that you looked at and used as a tag for a guitar hunting episode has Seymour Duncans and just love the range of tones i can get from it.
@@papasmamas1You realize the les Paul model has been around since 1952, right? As for the question, the original run of Goldtops in 1952 had no neck binding, therefore, no nibs. Best sounding guitar Trogly has EVER played. Massive meaty sound especially on the dirty tones.

His name is Ted, not Tom.
@@davy755 Thank you, I keep getting Ted and Tom confused as I know a Tom Woodford personally. Tom isn't a luthier though.
Seems like far more work than it’s worth to just get an aged bridge replacement
I just bought the Epiphone reissue of this guitar. The ivory and black are such a gorgeous color combination.

I wish Don would reach out to you and say if he still had his. Or give some insight on the wear pattern on it if sold or given away the guitar.
Just a word of advice. I would dispose of that baggie you found, just in case there's residue of something illicit in it.
It’s worth getting rid of anyway. What’s likely in it is the remains of some celluloid guitar picks.
There is a vendor on Reverb that sells replacement latches for chainsaw cases. Repaired my Gen 2 that came with my ‘77.

Mine is a 2014 and best Epi around so far !
2022 Epi LP Custom Blackback owner here… and I can assure that is the best Epiphone I’ve played in my whole life
It sure passed the sound check! The clean tones are especially pleasing. 👍
Mick Ronson vibes

I used to work music festivals. One thing I learned early on is to THROW AWAY MYSTERY BAGS!
When is Trogly going to do a Halloween story about the evil Stan Rash? Last think I knew he was standing in the corner for being a bad boy.

The new Dokken Album is great, Spectacular writing and tone..Nice Custom 👍🎤🎸🎶💿
Sounds *so* much better than that new “Supreme” yesterday.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I have the epiphone version. Amazing guitar.
Wow, that guitar sounds incredible. It has a nice growl to it that isnt like razor blades coming at your ears. Just a really sweet tone to it
This guitar sound gave me chills! Great 80’s playing demo! This is a really cool players guitar. Thanks again for the education!
Great, great axe, Austin! Great demo! Gibson should do more black/black sides with different-colored tops.
Super cool guitar for sure!
Speaking of Dokken, I’d love to see an ESP Kamikaze or another George Lynch guitar on here.
My fave guitar i've seen here in a long time. Thought that one both looked cool and sounded great.
Damn that looks so yellow on my screen. Never expected to hear you try to take on bark at the moon . Very cool.
Damn that guitar is gorgeous! Just the right amount of relic too
Nice guitar, I have a regular 74 custom all white lefty, it plays and sounds awesome!
This color guitar is also used in the video for Firewoman by The Cult
I got the Epiphone reissue a couple of years ago. Great guitar. But the fret ends came to me a bit sharp. I had to file them. But it plays nice.
Maybe Don was trying to smuggle coke to Germany to record their live album!! 😂

Come to the conclusion the t tops are the best Gibson pickups ever. So articulate clean and it’s just pure 70s tone on the dirt 🙌🏻
really nice looking les paul for sure

It's possible to bend that bridge back into proper radius, saw twoodfrd do it on a video just recently.
My 92' Custom also have a block inlay that's waaay rather different than the others. Original from the factory.
I love it…this guitar has been thru the battle and come out the other side…ahh, the stories it could tell…beautiful 👍

Old ebony is such a beautiful fretboard wood
