    He's a great teacher. Using his concepts and drills I've taken my game to the next level. Was a scratch player and quit playing for about 5 years. Started back playing around 2 years ago and have been playing a lot. I'd shoot anywhere between 74 and 80 and couldn't get over the hump so to speak. My distance has drastically improved and contact is better and way more consistent. I can't imagine how much in person lessons would help

      Right on Thomas! A few years ago, a good player and Alabama Section PGA professional by the name of Jammie Lett came to see me and we did online lessons for about 4 sessions after he had watched pretty much all my videos and had already integrated my teachings into his lessons with great success and he is now regularly in the low 60’s, he is the first to do this with Wisdom in Golf, and he is now doing our videos on Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM. Many local tour pros are now going to him to see what he is doing differently because he is winning so many PGA events there! So if you are near Oxford AL, see Jammie Lett at the Cider Ridge Golf Club and get your game secured forever!

    I came to golf from fast pitch softball 35 years ago, playing with a strong grip and free moving legs. I was straight and long. No short game. Occasionally, I would hit a pull hook. " That's because your grip is too strong." 20 years of using the strong grip and playing to a 8-9 handicap, I took lessons. I wanted to get better. Same thing, "You're grip's too strong. You're moving too much." When I said the neutral grip was not comfortable, I got "You have to get worse before you can get better." I got worse and stayed worse: 18-20 handicap. I was in the golf business for 18 years. After I sold it, I quit golf. I discovered your channel today. I feel like my life has just changed. Thank you so much for your content, it is excellent. BTW, 1st time I saw Sav swing, I said "She swings just like I used to."

    You are a mind reader. I literally came on to the video to make a comment about how to release a hammer movement as obviously you can't reverse bend your wrist through the "hit" without causing massive amounts of pain. 2:20 in, you start talking about this point exactly! 🤣 Today as a comparison I tried my best to kill the ball with my wedge, literally everything into it. Next shot was the smoothest most relaxed Sunday morning swing just throwing the club in front of me to see how easy I could swing. The difference was 2 yards... 🤣

    I have been trying to use this method of golf swing for about 4 rounds. I do have to admit that this style of golf swing has improved some drives and distance but mostly inconsistent. Maybe it's because I'm not as flexible as your students but I find getting into the starting position feels awkward and starting the back swing feels harder to wind up. It doesn't work for irons and sometimes it works with woods. I will continue to use this style since it does give more better drives than any other video I've seen on RUclips. The one thing I notice is my drives do not take typical path upward and are mostly line drives about 60 to 90 high. I'm in my 50's so this may be affecting my results. I will keep trying because when I do get it right at times, I out drive others in my group.

    Hi Shawn, thanks for the teaching. Could you please comment on the rate of clubface closure? It seems the emphatic release you’re teaching results in less clubface stability through impact.
    For this reason, I have learned to maintain the “flying wedge” through the impact zone. Afterwards, with the ball long gone, I let the club release me.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  3 года назад +1

      It all depends on the shot you are hitting; low or high? Draw or fade? What is the lie? This is the info and environment your machine is reacting to in order to deliver the ball towards the target. To me, as long as you are feeling this, you are good!

    Just wanna say, I had been using the Shot Vision app driving into a net in my backyard, swinging like a maniac almost everyday and 290yds was my best and it was pretty inconsistent. I tried the setup where the club head has some distance in-between it, and the ball to promote hitting the ball on the upswing and boy did that help. So with your 7 iron swing. It said you were hitting 1 degree down, 11 degrees in to out path with launch angle of 19 degrees. Assuming your 7 iron is 34 degrees that means you're contacting the ball with a significantly closed club face and significantly in to out to get those launch conditions. Is there a benefit to this method vs hitting more down on the ball and having a more "normal" path that is roughly 3 degrees in to out without such a closed club face? It seems like the latter method will allow you to get more spin on the ball which is what you want with irons. I assume that is why the former method which is how you hit your 7 iron only gave you slightly more than 4000 spin which is low for a 7 iron. Not trying to be critical here but trying to understand the methodology and reasoning. If you could please help me understand that would be great. Love the channel, have learned a lot. Appreciate everything you guys do!

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  3 года назад

      Low spin is because of the range ball we were using; and the numbers have evolved to 4 degrees down and more streamlined with path. That is what is fun about this game with us and our method (human machine on planet earth) is the constant evolution.

      Some golf shots require it! Some require fades with out to in by 4 degrees too; just depends what the flight plan is and as you can see, it is easily possible to hole out with any of them to a certain extent. Enjoy your videos and intrigued by your method. I'm a 51 year old 4 hc. Hit it very straight with a weak left hand grip that gets a little bowed at the top. I've never had much speed (90 mph) for a 6'2", 200 pound guy. In watching you, it appears that you use a slightly strong grip but you allow the club face to open some in the backswing so that the face is a little more open at the top than what you typically see with a stronger grip. When I try to use a 2.5 Knuckle grip I tend to keep my left wrist flat which gets the club pretty closed at the top. Then I can't release it hard without hooking it of course. Should I try to keep more cup in the left wrist and let the club open more going back like you do to make the stronger grip work? Thanks

    I have this issue where my wrist is very cupped at the top of the swing and the clubface is wide open through impact. No matter what i try it feels uncomfortable to do anything but cup my lead wrist, is this a grip issue? I have a fairly neutral grip but have tried a stronger grip with no luck.

    Shawn: if a player has a straight line with their arms and the shaft at the top of the finished swing, it seems the club face stays square longer, so one would get a straighter ball flight. But does that also mean there wasn't a full release? If so, how would you get the proper release (if doing the sword drill doesn't change anything)

    I posted this on another golf instructor site, Shawn. I owe it all to you.
    "NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! You guys make the golf swing way TOO COMPLICATED!!! I am 70 years old. I have been taking golf lessons and watching golf videos for 30 years. I tried every type of movement, set-up, back swing, down-swing, turn, follow-through, wrist set, etc., etc., imaginable and NONE OF THEM WORKED!!! The reason why none of it worked is because I was concentrating on my GOLF SWING and the BALL, and not the TARGET!!! I would constantly think to myself...."is my set-up right??...do I have enough forward bend???....do I have enough side bend??...am I getting enough width in my back swing??.....do I have a flat wrist??...am I getting enough back swing turn??...am I swaying??...am I keeping my head down??...am I clearing my hips enough??....do I have enough shaft lean to create lag??...on...and on...and on.... Sound familiar??? Once I started changing my perception of the golf swing via a certain instructor on You Tube (did not cost me a dime) did my swing improve exponentially!!! I started to literally do the OPPOSITE of what 99% of golf instructors teach on RUclips. I started to use analogies like swinging an axe, a sledge hammer, a hammer, tennis racquet, base ball batter and pitcher, skipping a stone, etc., etc., to change that perception. At setup, I am in constant movement. I have a super strong grip; I have an extremely closed club face; I create an incredible amount of lag just in my setup; I use my body to swing the club up in the back swing; I come up in the back swing and lose my forward bend, and then, using my LEGS...LEGS...LEGS...(remember that idea of the 'SQUAT"?) I am able to do it every time!! No more early extension and standing up at impact and flipping!!! I then come crashing down to the ball, with a divot every time, and swing through to a complete finish without ever seeing the club hit the ball!!! I just look at the target and watch as my ball shoots towards it!! I have NEVER hit the ball better!!! NEVER had more consistent strikes!! Solid contact 90% of the time. I take a pitching wedge and turn it into a 7 iron. THAT IS WHAT THE PROS DO!!! I focus on the TARGET and NOT the BALL or my GOLF SWING!! As I said earlier, I don't even see the ball when I hit it!! And I don't lose balls anymore!!! If you want to know more, let me know!!!"
