      I actually don't use jumping technique, just using body rotation and keep the face square. Usually carry 265-270 yd

    • @tmoney7643
      @tmoney7643 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@LeoBeebe I think the take away here is for folks like you that want to hit it farther. If you’re ok with your distance then nothing to see here. But you should know you’re leaving several yards on the table. Some value fairways more than distance, but many pros have started putting more value on distance over fairways. To each their own. 🤷‍♂️

    Im by no means a good golfer, but I have noticed when my grip is lighter and I am not trying to crush the ball from the top, I get more consistent contact, better flight path and my teammates say I don’t look like I am swinging the club fast but the ball is still getting bombed (for me 250 at nearly 60 years old). I like how you explained the ground aspect and I am going to start working on that. Thanks Tig

    • @mysticqx6281
      @mysticqx6281 11 месяцев назад +1

      If you try to hit the ball from the top your body tenses up and you just drag and flip the club through impact. The best sequence is to be fast at the ball not at the top of your swing.

    I played with a guy last weekend who was small (5’7”, 145-150 lbs), but he produced so much club head speed. He had a great golf swing that was short, compact, and efficient. I could imagine that his swing was very similar to yours. In comparison, I’m 6’3” and I have 100 pounds on him, but he was driving past me about 20 yards… from the black tees with me playing the blues. Honestly, I am not obsessed with distance, but I am obsessed with efficiency. My swing is not nearly as efficient as it should be. I will apply what I learn here.

    Micah Micah Micah, thank you Thank you!!!!!!!! Golfing since the 80’s but a week ago still hitting driver around 160 only!!! Then stumbled onto your “do these 4 things” vid. Better than any vid (or coach) ever. Had to write because you are the best teacher in the USA!
    Your vid, but more specifically, one word, BULLWHIP!!!! Changed my golf forever. I think I duck hooked a few drives way back in 1980, and I had been locked up, tighter than $&#&, in fear, for 45 years. Slicing and spinning garbage to avoid the duck, for 45 years.
    Until your word …….so descriptive, like snapping a whip, the best way to distance.
    Yesterday, hit among others, two drives of 198!! Seriously,
    Whip it!
    Thank you Micah!!!!

    Don't forget width. I'm the same build and surprise people with how far I hit it. I used to hit it far in baseball and softball too. Using the ground in conjunction with hitting up is huge. I like a slightly open left hip to promote clearing. And yes, tension kills. Once you have decent mechanics and can trust your swing, relax and let it fly.

    Watch this yesterday and I must say this is the best driver instruction video I have ever seen. I went to the range today an wanted to try out using the ground to generate more speed. I hit bombs! So I thought why not play a few holes. I played 3 holes, hit fairway on every one and on all 3 I hit the longest drives I have ever done. I was about 25-30 yards longer than my earlier best drives and about 50-60yards longer than my normal average. Thanks Tig!

    My last round I did Micah’s speed tip I learned from his videos earlier. My tee shots were further and more controlled which made golfing more fun. It feels so much more controlled and actually creates more speed than swinging from the top which seems counter intuitive.

    Good instructional video Micah. Sound advice all around. I played yesterday and shot a -1 par 71 at Ridgeview Ranch in Allen Texas. Hit every fairway down the middle and long, aiming left on my setup. I was sure not to get my right hand too far on top with my grip, to help square my shoulders. This helped me feel setup behind the ball better too. My left hand showed maybe 2 knuckles tops on the grip (not too strong). My grip pressure was light and comfortable (no death grip). My takeaway was low and straight back as far as possible. I concentrated on not breaking my wrists, especially because doing so would hurt since my right wrist is injured and I had it wrapped. Because my wrist was injured, I think this helped me concentrate on not taking the club back too fast, which gave me more time to get the club set at the top. My ball position was inside my left foot. I like this better than too far forward off the left toe because I watched a video of pro Justin Thomas hit his driver in slow motion and I could see that his club shaft was highly distorted on the downswing because of the torque generated just before release at impact, but once his clubhead traveled to his left foot, that bow in the shaft had already straightened out making me believe the clubhead was now slowing back down by then. Your idea of using the ground to push off of is awesome. I am a tennis player too and I see your point. On an open stance forehand swing I push off the ground with my legs to create power. I will concentrate on using the ground more for leverage with my golf swing.

      My Ventus driver shaft broke recently while just brushing the ground lightly with the clubhead to loosen my wrists. So I bought an Aldila NVS burnt orange shaft senior flex and it works great. Hit all 18 fairways yesterday (and missed only one green, but got up and down for par) to shoot -1 under par 71. Shout out to the folks at Clubfinders in Plano Texas for putting me on to this Aldila shaft which I am loving. Micah's content is very sound advice and is what I used yesterday to shoot 71.

    I’m 5’4, 145 and I can out drive most of the players I play with. I’m honestly not bragging or trying to sound cool. I play with some big guys who hit it far. I bought the new Stealth driver with the Ventus 5-S shaft and I know it added on average 20-25 yards to my drives. The pro at my course confirmed the same after he bought one. Now my average drives are 285-310 yards depending on fairway conditions and wind direction/speed. I can’t wait to hit the range tomorrow and focus on all 4 points. Thank you!

    Using the ground! That is a new one for me!
    I always used to think there were 3 power sources for gaining speed:
    - The wrists
    - The body rotation around the spine
    - The weight shift from right to left
    But I never thought about the 'jump effect' while moving form right to left as a power source.
    Very interesting! I am gonna try that to gain more meters at the course!

  • @bmceowen2
    @bmceowen2 11 месяцев назад

    Great explanation Micah, thank you! golf swing speed and accuracy was explained to me based on physics - you want all your speed generated when the club is travelling toward the target. So going fast from the top doesn't help because the club is initially travelling away from the target. But when hands hit hips, your club is now travelling toward the target and that is where you want your speed to come in. Also, just a silly thing I found interesting - once you start your swing, there are two times the club head speed is at zero 1. at the top 2. at the finish. By rushing the club to the top in your backswing, you could be causing inaccuracy. Rory will disagree, but for me that has been critical.
