Yup. I tried the same when Acrophobia came out for Reach. I was simultaneously amused and disappointed. I wanted to see what a Scarab explosion in Reach looked like.
I heard somewhere that there was a cut part in reach development, in it we were going to be able to DRIVE a scarab, perhaps that is why this model has a "repaint"
From Halopedia: _While the Deutoros-pattern Scarab did ultimately make its way into the final game as a low-poly background entity on the levels Tip of the Spear and The Pillar of Autumn (with the latter level also featuring a more detailed, non-interactive setpiece Scarab at one point in the mission), early ideas for the game's campaign were to have the player character able to drive the Scarab. Early ideas for the level New Alexandria would have seen the player drive the Scarab in the remains of the post-glassing city. Prototypes for the Scarab were made and the physics involved was described by Chris Ophdal as "sweet", though the Scarab was ultimately considered unsustainable - especially with the high engine cost needed to run the level. Ultimately, the drivable Scarab was scrapped and New Alexandria was transformed into an aerial mission focusing on the Falcon instead._ Cut dialogue for the missions Tip of the Spear and Exodus shows that early plans for these levels were for both to feature Scarab encounters similar to those featured in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, though all were cut.
Fun fact, did you know we’re meant to get a scarab level in halo reach and we got to drive it. It was in between new Alexandria and the package i’m pretty sure
@@Spartan-11 While that is true, adding it to an enemy you never fight and in a place that is impossible to get to without huge effort by the player can hardly be considered worth the effort and development time. They probably copy pasted the whole thing directly from Halo 3.
It only blows up once in the game, when longswords bomb three of them on Tip Of The Spear. They literally don't have more than one damage region in reach. The halo 3 version has like 12 regions
iirc from an interview bungie said they wanted a scarab level but only could really do it if they ported the scarab from halo 3 to reach, somewhere along the way the scarab got broken and they didnt have the time to fix it so yes its the same model but bungie had to change the way it worked to cover up something which broke (i dont think they said what exactly broke)
My only gripe with the Scarabs here is that their lighting effects are turned off (I cross-referenced this with 360 gameplay) Which seems odd, because they are _definately_ present in Carter's cutscene. Whoch makes me wonder whether or not this was an oversight, or deliberate on account of some limitation. Not sure why it would be since H3 could render two scarabs (I repeat two scarabs) just fine, but maybe it has something to do with the extra scripting and enemies in the space. I don't know.
I could see a version where you could, it unlocks an ending where Six is tryimg not to cry as Carter leaves to replace Emile at the Mass Accelerator. His last words to her are "Make Reach the last planet they destroy

I wonder how the reach and halo 3 scarab assets differ. I'm curious how a reach scarab would play out in combat. Hopefully someone out there makes this area a boss fight in a workshop mod.

Carter figured that last part out.
Technically you did kill it but whatever

But no shiny blue-purple plasma boom boom :(
@@raghuvarv Yeah it's like they sucked all of the fun out the scarab's death.
you could get to there without acrophobia, just rocket jump

Wow that's cool sadly like every cool thing gets cut in halo

Scarab: nah who needs the orb anyways?
Interesting how it produces blood effects still.
I think they just took the halo 3 core and added it with different textures
The scarab worm collision material was not deprecated between the two games.
(most) scarabs are actually hunters.
Hunter blood
The reason why it produces Hunter Blood effects is that Hunter Worms pilot Scarabs in lore

Why didn’t you ever once throw a sticky? It was driving me crazy. 😂
Didn't think about it but should've
It seems like it’s just the same model from halo 3 but indestructible
Literally yes
Same model but they updated the textures to match the purple for most of the covenant stuff for reach, i still kinda like the way 3s scarab looks

Yeah they seriously don't express emotions much at all. Even expressions of happiness are mute and slight

I swear you could destroy it on the original game on 360 but who knows I might be tripping
try 4 player flighing there and shoot it until it gets out of reach, maybe will kill it
I don't understand why we couldn't destroy it like in the recent halos before reach
the short answer: no. I have tried this myself and it just doesn't work
