People said the Alabama rig was here to stay and everyone just needs to adapt, get on board, and get with the times or be left behind. It's now outlawed in 9 states and banned from BASS and FLW. Their reason for banning it = "They are illegal for a simple reason: they are so effective it’s almost like cheating. When fish are finicky and won’t bite, the umbrella rig can be highly effective at enticing a strike. Not only does it detract from the sport, it eventually will become, with more and more people using it, a fishery management issue. Sometimes what works the best is also the most destructive.
My take on watching guys since you asked. If you throw a spinnerbait shallow, froggin, buzzbaits, etc, we can watch you work the bait, the fish reacting/eating it, and the fight afterward. For fishing sooner is a great tool. However, it should not be used during actual tournament days. It’s not real bass fishing to sight fish for Bass. This applies to when they’re on the beds as well.
It is excellent tool. It absolutely sucks to watch on tv. Basic human nature We are mostly all visual. Because we are visual we require eye contact with who were watching. Try making your videos facing away from your camera and You will watch your support disappear. I 100 percent support your new found popularity and honesty. More power to anyone that wants ffs. I am out when an anglers total skills is less important than his ffs skills.
Wow, what a graph. Enjoy it. I am one of those weekend anglers. I don't fish tournaments but let me give you my feelings on this issue on live scope. I have been bass fishing over 50 years. I am retired and fish and release for the fun of it. When one is going to fish for a living meaning house payments, family needs, truck payments and so one, you need all the fishing tools out there. I mean if it takes 5 graphs on the boat go get them. You are making a LIVING at it. That is no brainer.
So with my limited tome to fish (3 or 4 days a month)I'm not too concerned with chasing suspended fish out in open water. What I would like to see is how it can help you line up on a way point, say a rock pile in 25 feet and know exactly where to cast.some video showing tht type of thing would be very helpful. Considering ffs or 360 for this season.
Happy Thanksgiving Jacob, I think live scope is a tool that is available for fisherman, and they can use it or not. I think this was a good idea to show what you use and be transparent about your thoughts on using it. Keep up the great work Jacob, and you seem to getting a good following. I am behind you all the way.
What is different is the delay between casts that bug people. The rhythm is what we are not used to. Thayer are spending that delay watching the screen.
Please do more scope videos, not a lot of pros will walk us through how to properly use this tool. Most just complain about it. I only tune into bass live for the LiveScope tips
Jacob, I will explain to you how it is different. First off I have FFS and use it and catch fish everytime im out fishing. "Except in the local club team trail I fish it's actually banned." I have taken the time the past two seasons to learn how to use FFS more efficiently because unfortunately this is our future. I personally think it's 110% boring to use and catch bass with it and like I said I've used nothing but it for two full years now. I don't see any wildlife I don't get to see nature I don't get to experience any of those great things. The worse part is you don't get that feeling of excitement when a fish bites your lure because you are watching it happen in real time. It takes away not just the excitement aspect of it but also my feeling of accomplishment when I catch bass. I don't feel that I've accomplished anything catching a suspended bass over 70ft or a bass in an offshore brush pile because I can see exactly what my bait is doing. I'm an angler that fishes because I love bass fishing and I loved being better than the other competitors I'm fishing against. Using FFS is not the better angler it is the best competitor at using technology. I don't play video games because I'm 34 years old now not 14, there's a point where it's time to grow up and become a man not a child. Now from the viewer concept. It's boring to watch a guy stare at his screen even when there's a screen showing what he's doing. Fans want to watch anglers that are talking and looking for the next signs of nature to clue them in on what the bass are feeding on. Before technology these anglers would talk about what they was doing and why they picked this bait up and why they made this decision. I personally quit watching any live coverage when SI came into the industry because I was sick of hearing guys talk about how they idled around for every day of practice and marked offshore structure and didn't even throw a cast. You spoke in one of your videos a few weeks ago about the lack of sponsorships and you need to understand that you are in full support of the sole reason why the sponsorships have declined since the early 2000s. The decline started in the late 2000s when SI was introduced and has regressed as technology has advanced. It's ran non affiliated sponsors out of the sport of bass fishing and caused this regression. Maybe you're too young to remember a 1 million dollar 1st place forrest wood cup winner or a 500k BASSMASTER CLASSIC 1st place winner. Here we are in 2023 yes 20 years later inflation up a very high percentage compared to the early 2000s. Entry fees, and expenses all up and payouts are 1/3rd of what they was 20 years ago. The reason of this decline is what you support the most and that technology. You choose an easier path and 9 times out of 10 once you get there there is a price to pay. In this case that price Is less sponsorships.
Yeah sponsorships haven’t declined because of technology. Sponsorships have declined because of social media. That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard.
@@jacobfoutzfishing you ask opinions. Social media is technology so technology has caused the regression. I'm just giving the facts it might be a coincidence that the regression started with the introduction of SI. Then when FFS was introduced that's when a massive increase of anglers came into the fishing industry. There simply isn't enough money and companies to support all these anglers. Look at it economically Jacob and think like a businessman. You had mentioned in your video that there was so many guys out there promoting companies for basically nothing. You are absolutely correct on this and that is all a cause not from social media but by all the new thousands of anglers it brought into the sport. You as a company why would you give one single angler $5-$20k when you can give 5k anglers a 10% discount. Technology is the root cause of the regression in cash sponsorships for professional anglers. I believe the reason why non affiliated sponsors have been lost id because of the division on both sides of the technology. Without non affiliated sponsors the industry/organizations will never grow and it will continue to be stagnant or regress until a solution is found.
Sounds like you think it is bad because you don’t enjoy it (and think you can’t win without it)…. One could say the same thing about spinning rods (or anything else)… I don’t enjoy fishing spinning rods, but finesse fishing wins on my lake so I do it (even though I’m miserable doing it) If you don’t like it don’t do it. Some people want the rules and winning strategy to fit their personal preference
@@levisnow88 what are you talking about? Live bait?? You can guess my opinion on that. You talk about the “future of the sport”, but you also say you “stopped watching live coverage when SI came into the industry” - you sir are therefor NOT the future of the sport. You opted out of the sport with SI (and that is ok… you do you)
There are two camps regarding FFS restrictions. One camp is focused on conservation. The other is focused on its influence on the practice of fishing. The first camp could be unknowingly scapegoating FFS because of its potential negative effects to the environment and fish populations, which currently lacks data to prove or disprove the argument. On the Practices and Priorities side, its short term influence has already proven evident on competitive practices and standards, but the statistics to evaluate any detriments towards angler proficiencies is still being collected. Both groups recognize the liabilities of FFS.
Just keep making videos. Talk about your experiences and show people how you like to fish. It will get easier and things will work out. If you keep at it!
my experience of 40+ years of Competitive fishing the pros do not like secrets being revealed and that is what, in my opinion, FFS does. it is definitely a tool that teaches fish behavior, and anyone who says anything different is not being honest, and that makes some Pro's mad. Why, because it cuts into their top number. Pros do not want young up coming fishermen to be that successful. Listen how they talk, "they have not paid there dues or the word MONEY always comes up. i have learn a lot with FFS, more than any pro has taught me and can catch fish with or without it more frequently than before, and that is just the facts about.
Nice to hear someone say it like it is. I get tired of hearing people say it doesn’t take skill. You still have to find the fish before it even plays lol
Agree, if you don't like it, don't use it, but respect those that do. 100% agree BASS can do things to improve viewership like overlays. It is not going away, so people need to adapt or go start watching pickleball or something.
I feel the reason it’s called boring is due to the change in television coverage, now days they are broadcasting live where as in the past television coverage was filmed and edited therefore there was more coverage of fish catches as opposed to now you have to wait the same as the angler does for the bites!
I couldnt agree more, there's zero difference between a guy staring at a screen or his bait on the water. Me personally I'd rather watch a guy using livescope and being able see his screen, can learn a lot more that way.
What are the things you’ve learnt from scoping that you would apply to blind casting??? Sounds like the rest of the video gamers claiming to be more knowledgeable after being spoon fed bass on a screen
I want to see the screen taken away and see how many anglers can truly compete without it. I honestly believe if they didn't have the green they would be lost because they've become so dependent on it
Garmin , Lowrance and Humminbird need to get on board with making their own screens. Right now they just want guys to buy 4 units. But their sales are gonna dip as these NBT screens get popular.
Not a fan of live scope at all. I don't think it's fishing in my opinion. It is boring as hell to watch on TV.... Sorry we will never agree on this point however I plan on learning it because I am a tournament fisherman and want to stay competitive. Unless we start seeing love scope free division I will have to learn it to stay competitive.
Im getting one pretty soon because i think itll help me find submerged cover for crappie so i feel the same way. Use it if you want to, dont get one if youre against it.
The reason it’s boring to watch livescope is: When someone is fishing the bank, the background is changing and the angler is casting at cover which is visible to the viewer. When someone is livescoping, only the angler (until coverage “improves”) can see the screen, and the boat therefore is usually facing what looks like a random direction in wide open featureless water - we can’t see the brush pile or drop off. It’s one thing to watch guys fish, which can be boring, but it’s a whole other level of boring to watch on TV another guy watching TV who occasionally hooks a fish with a noodle of a spinning rod then run laps around his boat anger-whispering “he’s barely hooked please stay on” a dozen times. Also, good luck man, you have my support.
I don’t think we need a season on bass. There are other options available for managing bass populations. Slot limits create a year class that can’t be harvested or put in a live well. I’ve also fished a few lakes that had a few small pockets that was closed to fishing and boating. So the fish in that cove could spawn without being bothered.
I’m not for or against, it’s a tool. I can understand the traditionalist argument against it when guys become 100% reliant on it no matter where they go. It’s powerful enough to allow some (not all) guys to be successful without knowing a lot of what would normally be considered basic fundamentals of the sport. That said, it’s taught us more about how bass react, and more importantly what such a large population of the bass have done forever that we didn’t know about. And it’s certainly not automatic.
I feel like I'm on the outside looking in and at first when I was made aware of this hot debate when I got bit by the bug badly back in 2019, I was sort of shocked and offended by livescope.....that was until I got my first 150$ Garmin 2D sonar unit. It's literally the same thing. People complaining that live scope is cheating but use downscan or side imaging and think it's fine are living in a fantasy world. FFS is just sonar that points forward. It's only a matter of time before all imaging is real time and not a scan. I am just waiting for them to make it cheap to try it out for myself! I like learning about the fish on my lake!
Your comment is wrong. FFS isn’t the same as down or side 2d or 3d imaging. The major difference is that it’s live feed and that is where the debate comes into play. With down or side scan, sure u can see cover and occasionally fish suspended around it but that is a still shot of what the sonar read as passes by said cover. With scope, it is live and the angler sees the fish swimming and how it reacts to a bait in real time. So, just to be clear, it is different and definitely a quantum leap in fishing technology. It’s anyones opinion on rather or not it should be banned, but we need to be clear on exactly what it is and what it does.
@@789Derek I respect your view. I just don't think it is any different after actually seeing both on the water in a boat. We can agree to disagree. Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm not necessarily 100% against Livescope, but I have been vocal on it as you and I have had our discussion on it. For me the difference in starring at a scope and watching a guy go down the bank is the guy going down the bank is on TV we can watch the angle of lure presentation and execution. Tournaments: I've been an advocate of having a closed season on tournaments and for the recreational angler have a catch and release only until after the spawn.
@@muthafukajones1513Way to oversimplify. It’s not like anglers eliminate unproductive water and concentrate on high percentage areas and have to execute pinpoint casts. Nah, none of that happens.
@@no_regerts5176 Yup, same as anyone who fishes offshore. And yes, it is simple. Stare at a target, and throw at it. It’s only tv shows that make you think you have more to do with the fish biting. Pinpoint casts? A log, a dock, grass mat? What’s the pinpoint? This is just an example of anglers thinking they have more to do with the fish biting than they actually have.
I have a lot of the views you have about FFS. You did give a good point about watching fishermen using it but I can't explain it is boring to watch. But once again you made a good point the y need to make it more interactive I've been saying this since people started complaining about it.
Finally an angler who has the guts to call out the FFS tournament coverage argument. Go for it brother because I do not know any serious anglers in my universe that have used the technology and then said "Nope not for me!" You are now the new Anti-Randy only you will be weighing in limits instead of making excuses!!!
Your asked my opinion... Bass fishing is on hot rails to hell. And it ain't because of sponsorships and tournament payouts. It's because of some fishermen trying to justify any legal means possible to catch fish, regardless on the impact to the sport overall.
Great video Jacob. If you ain't scoping your hoping. Livescope is not for everyone. If your a tournament fisherman you better learn how to use it. It's a great tool.
Have to disagree. Watching hours of an anglers backside peering down at FFS is a whole lot less entertaining than the days of watching guys named Brauer, Biffle and Van Dan tactically disect shallow water cover with precision casts. No comparison.
@@kurtrindgen4708 it’s still watching somebody doing what you aren’t. Watching a jig is not exciting. Watching water, different story, everything is no different.
You’re all about transparency do this in the 2024 season . Show everybody how many views bassmaster live coverage gets after each event. We know the anglers have access to that info show it good or bad.
I think people find it boring not because of ffs, but because guys are offshore fishing more and not beating the banks at visible targets. Most guys beat the banks or grew up watching old bassmaster with guys flipping, spinnerbaits, and top water. Just my opinion
Because a guy going down s bank throwing at a target is more appealing than watching someone’s ass all day. You as a viewer can envision where the strikes should be vs watching a guy throw a drop shot 10 ft out in front of him
I think the reason people thing it is boring is because when the camera is on the fisherman. They aren't talking but looking at the screen. Where it used to be the guys were talking and casting at the bank so you could see more action from the fisherman.
The biggest thing I have against the “Scope is Boring” narrative is how is it any different than watching the guys stare at 2D like they would now heck B-Lat has a Bass U video on Lanier using 2D as FFS before FFS was a thing, just baffles me FFS has become a scapegoat for previous issues
$4000? I dont understand how its so expensive if you need the regular unit as well. its just a bigger screen right? You can get high def tvs for under $100. Money is out of control on this stuff.
Practice makes perfect. Keep doing public speaking and making videos and u will get better at it. Positive themes, positive. Regarding FFS, it does turn bass fishing upside down to “hunting” where folks like Walters doesn’t even cast unless he sees them. Brad Hallman was a great flipper but he became neutralized by FFS beating him and making his skills not that useful today.
Spotlighting is complete garbage! IMO it makes, in most cases, a non relevant tournament angler relevant! To me it crosses the line! The only way the top tourney organizations will ban it is if viewership dramatically drops for spotlighting dominated events! Lord knows I surely don’t watch those events! I like the BPT because I can rewatch their days full live broadcast and at least fast forward through the scoping anglers. That being said, keep on keeping on! Sponsorships come with hard work! There’s one phrase I do agree with though…… IF YOU’RE NOT SCOPING YOU’RE HOPING…… Sadly, in so many tournaments in recent years this phrase is undoubtedly true! 👎🏻

Crazy thought- go out and use it, experiment, and figure it out.

Poor broken bastard has a 21" screen
😢
this is how he makes bread. i see broke ass tradesman with millwaukee not ryobi. same thing
Jacob,
I will explain to you how it is different.
First off I have FFS and use it and catch fish everytime im out fishing. "Except in the local club team trail I fish it's actually banned."
I have taken the time the past two seasons to learn how to use FFS more efficiently because unfortunately this is our future.
One could say the same thing about spinning rods (or anything else)… I don’t enjoy fishing spinning rods, but finesse fishing wins on my lake so I do it (even though I’m miserable doing it)
If you don’t like it don’t do it. Some people want the rules and winning strategy to fit their personal preference
@@davidgoodspeed362 what I care about is the future of the sport.
Do you agree with live bait not allowed? It's just another tool.
@@levisnow88 what are you talking about? Live bait?? You can guess my opinion on that.
You talk about the “future of the sport”, but you also say you “stopped watching live coverage when SI came into the industry” - you sir are therefor NOT the future of the sport. You opted out of the sport with SI (and that is ok… you do you)
excited to see your on the water video
Scope is awesome I think pressure is the downside but you learn to evolve with the bass
What lake are you on? Looks deep and clear. Agree with your forward facing sonar opinions. Randy B will be disappointed, 😀
You are making me jealous being on that lake. It has been too long since i got up that way 😎👍
Good stuff I love that screen I seen someone put the 16 on a hobie kayak haha I’m like lord that’s sweet but I would hit it with a something haha
I’d rather watch bowling than someone staring at a screen. Terrible Live
I’d be willing to bet you’d watch regardless…
I got it, I love it and I don’t ridicule anyone that don’t.
Good Stuff
I honestly believe if they didn't have the green they would be lost because they've become so dependent on it
Livescope is game changer for sure.
I want to see a review video on that power pole trolling motor
All you need to see is the price, over 5 grand for a trolling motor is a joke...I can easily buy one, but I don't like getting screwed on pricing.
Garmin , Lowrance and Humminbird need to get on board with making their own screens. Right now they just want guys to buy 4 units. But their sales are gonna dip as these NBT screens get popular.
man long time no see! Havent seen you since highschool.Hope all is well jacob!
I am relatively new to this topic... from 1st view it doesnt seem right for tourney fishing but I am just a jon boat with a leak fisherman.
Love my active target
Not a fan of live scope at all. I don't think it's fishing in my opinion. It is boring as hell to watch on TV.... Sorry we will never agree on this point however I plan on learning it because I am a tournament fisherman and want to stay competitive. Unless we start seeing love scope free division I will have to learn it to stay competitive.
We really hope you smoke the other guys , we would love to see you shine bro
Im getting one pretty soon because i think itll help me find submerged cover for crappie so i feel the same way. Use it if you want to, dont get one if youre against it.
It's great for bass fishing, it's unbelievable for perch and crappie fishing, you will not be disappointed!
It's not the same!! Angler can't anticipate the bite or a cast. FFS has hurt more than helped
Will that screen fit on my kayak?
Makes a 16 as well
The reason it’s boring to watch livescope is: When someone is fishing the bank, the background is changing and the angler is casting at cover which is visible to the viewer.
Dang, you were so close to getting a couple of bags of jerky from Randy Blaukat
Chucking and winding all day while hoping for a bite takes no skill or presentation. Blind luck.
That 21" graph explains why you broke 😂
Finally an angler who has the guts to call out the FFS tournament coverage argument. Go for it brother because I do not know any serious anglers in my universe that have used the technology and then said "Nope not for me!" You are now the new Anti-Randy only you will be weighing in limits instead of making excuses!!!
Your asked my opinion... Bass fishing is on hot rails to hell. And it ain't because of sponsorships and tournament payouts. It's because of some fishermen trying to justify any legal means possible to catch fish, regardless on the impact to the sport overall.
Great video. 100percent agree with you. Don't like it don't use it
It doesn’t bother me but I do prefer watching flipping and top water fishing better.
Great video Jacob. If you ain't scoping your hoping. Livescope is not for everyone. If your a tournament fisherman you better learn how to use it. It's a great tool.
Good video Jacob. You are 100% correct, there is no difference in watching someone stare at a screen or staring at their bait.
Lol miss that free boat I'm sure
Jacob is the Anti- Blaukat
Thank goodness. RB is obnoxious with the ffs
Me to 😂
Me too. RB is nauseating.
I want to watch people catching fish if I'm watching a tournament.
You as a viewer can envision where the strikes should be vs watching a guy throw a drop shot 10 ft out in front of him
Your still looking at the back of a guy throwing a spinner bait or crankbait. So what’s the difference?
If you don’t know I can’t show you.
I think the reason people thing it is boring is because when the camera is on the fisherman. They aren't talking but looking at the screen. Where it used to be the guys were talking and casting at the bank so you could see more action from the fisherman.
Maybe you will have garmin sponsor you soon... Let's go scoping
I have it...i hate it...but i still have it 😂😂😂
The biggest thing I have against the “Scope is Boring” narrative is how is it any different than watching the guys stare at 2D like they would now heck B-Lat has a Bass U video on Lanier using 2D as FFS before FFS was a thing, just baffles me FFS has become a scapegoat for previous issues
Hey Jacob, go fishing do some teaching! Think you could do at it.
$4000? I dont understand how its so expensive if you need the regular unit as well. its just a bigger screen right? You can get high def tvs for under $100. Money is out of control on this stuff.
I guess it is only bc it is a touchscreen.
Shoot I ran on a 73cv Echomap lol
If livescope was detrimental to the fish your conservation department would get involved.
Randy fanboy 😂
If you’re not coping start scoping 😂 That’s why they scope
