One of the themes of this anime is that time can be a powerful thing and it really showcases it here! What's especially great about this scene is that Qual, (The demon) was, in his time, considered one of the most dangerous demons next to the demon king himself. He is the original creator of Zoltraak (offensive magic) yet a simple shield spell of the modern era is enough to block him. After so many years and hundreds of mages obsessively studying his magic, a natural counter was developed to defend against his magic. It was perfected in a natural arms race as both offensive and defensive magic evolved through the years. Qual, despite his legacy, never stood a chance using outdated Zoltraak!
thats interesting take on so to say magical arms race Frieren explained that human mages took considerable effort to make shield that would defeat precisely his spell its like someone summoned up WW2 tank ace in his Tiger only to set him against modern Leopard 2
@@ewok40k its more like knights from 15 century met 18-19 musket division. Tanks still relatively the same, except new additional grid armor and improved electronics.
Time is a powerful thing indeed! With so little time we have as humans, whomever uses it the most efficiently stands to reap the best rewards in life. What was deemed as an impossible task several hundred years ago, maybe something completely trivial in the present. Like the power to harness electricity to benefit mankind or working out large complex numbers without doing it manually but with a calculator.
It's true that Qual could not stand up to Frieren and Fern's modern knowledge. But given half a chance, he could've become a real threat again. He was able to replicate the shield magic after just seeing it once (although he obviously didn't have time to incorporate it into his fighting style) and upon seeing that the shield could break, he instantly switched to a tactic of trying to overpower Fern's shield, and was on the verge of breaking through the last one. If he had some time to get back up to speed with modern magic, he would've become a problem again real quick.
that mage created the staple spell for magic combat. and then was frozen for enough time that everyone copied his spell and learned how to defend. he should die proud knowing he forever changed the fabric of magical warfare. but he won't, inventors of weapons of war rarely do, especially when they make war more brutal.
For those looking for the music used here, it's not Zoltraak although it borrows many of its motives. The actual OST is called "Evolution of Magic" you can find it on youtube.
It’s quite amazing as to what 80 years can do for a mage who spent most of her immortal life studying, inventing, mastering, augmenting, and perfecting mysticism and magic for most of her own lifespan, and then passing on all of that knowledge onto a promising nursling mage in the process. Frieren is awesome!
Even in another universe, Lady Nagant is still a world-class sniper

Awesome Animation
Oh so long ago already 😅 noow if you look back at the frieren clone in the Dungeon, what she can do. Frieren is super lazy but at the same time, a good teacher, she let Fern experience all the things, she let her take a hit of her peak gravity magic 😂 fu cked up, but still good for experience 😅
great anime
Bro left a hole in the ground using a basic spell
LETS GO 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯🥶🥶🥶
ZOLTRAAK
But the important part of why this is happening happened just before this clip
Frieren was part of the party that sealed that demon away 80 years ago. In that time, humanity was able to study his killing magic (zoltraak), and use it to develop powerful defensive magic, like what Fern used. Frieren knew the sealing magic on him was weakening, which is why they came to defeat him for good using modern magical technique.
Qual lost because human progress made his genius work basic.
Hello there.! :D
