    First thing I did after getting my first call sign was to apply for my vanity call sign. Great video!

      Generally the best way to go. That way that’s what everyone remembers you as and someone doesn’t make you a gift with your callsign on it only to find out that it changed lmao

    Thanks Offline, Wisconsin new ham here. (Milw) That site is awesome, I got my new ham tech call sign. Applied for a vanity on day one, before I even knew what I was doing. I only listed one requested call sign and got it. I thought there would be more to it. I'm no wizard, but I'm no muggle. Thanks man.

      That's pretty good! The 1x2 and 2x1 calls go fast and have lots of contention, if you get a 1x3 or 2x2 they aren't as bad. Welcome to the hobby!

    Thanks Steve, just applied for a 2x2, and I expect to get it, since it's a NM5xx call, and not currently assigned.

    Boy, are you a brave soul! This is a splendid tutorial and you hit all the points exceedingly well. I am applying for a vanity call sign *change* on a club call for which I am the trustee. There is now a fee REQUIRED for call sign applications and, if I read carefully, if you submit an app you must pay a $35 fee but are NOT issued a refund if you fail to get any of your [up to 24] requests. So you're SOL and will have to pony up the fee each time...
    ...sort of like Vegas.

      This gets tricky now that there are fees involved. I'm not sure if they hold your fee for the next round. I'd love to see this fee go towards something amateur radio related, then it wouldn't sting so much.

      @@temporarilyoffline I am informed by the message forum on the AE7Q site that if the call signs you request are not available, your $35 is not refunded.

    I got the first call I applied for. de WX0MIK. Now that I'm on HF, I'm finding that it's a really long call and shopping around a bit for a shorter AE call.

    I applied for my vanity call yesterday. On the #13 question I was told to leave it blank unless that question is applicable to you. Hope that helps!

    It's been over three weeks since I applied and paid for my vanity call sign. How much longer before I hear something back from the FCC? My requested call sign showed as available since 2012 and the back-up was available as well.

      I believe it's 18 days from date of application. It takes forever.

    Can you tell me how to get to the FCC "License Manager" page. I can't find it once I log in.

    so I have to pick from a list? I cant just make up a 2x1 I like and submit it?

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  5 месяцев назад

      You can, but I'm pretty sure that every combination has been taken already and you just need to fight for whatever comes up the day you get picked out if the hat. I tried a few times to get a "special" one and essentially gave up.

    Scenario: I have an existing vanity sign. I'm moving to another state soon, will need to update my mailing address accordingly, and also want to change from my existing Vanity call to a NEW Vanity call. Can I do both in one swoop -- apply for the new vanity call *and* just put the new address in the Licensee Address field? Or do I need to do an admin update for the new address first, then later do the new Vanity application once the address is up-to-date?

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  3 года назад +1

      The vanity and the address change are different things. Do the address change before, during or after, shouldn't matter. Address changes are almost immediate.

    Very informative video, but you need to move you microphone closer to you or apply an acoustic treatment to a few places on your walls - preferably both - because your audio sounds like it was recorded in a public restroom - it echos, which makes it distant and decidedly unpleasant to listen to.

    Your voice line level audio is low and your fun intro graphical music audio is too high. Not unusual for a lot of RUclips startups and even experienced that purposefully think this is appealing to the audiences. It is not and usually results in my unsubscription, if that's a word... guess I just made it one, like everyone does now. :P
