In my first year as a Ham, I'm surprised at how many of these activities I already did. The most ambitious was buying a new transceiver (Leixen VV-898E) and then after using it awhile, I wrote up a comprehensive review on Amazon, including pics of my base, mobile and go-box using the same rig.
Great video , I thought about this after watching , and why not do something like POTA or SOTA , NOTA , Neighborhoods on the air. Get out and walk your neighborhood and see how many contacts using simplex only on a hand held radio with whatever antenna you want to use . See how many you can get. Its a good way to spread the word about Ham radio , being prepared , getting to know others who live in the area and KNOWING what your radio will do in an emergency . Lets face it , you must know what your radio Will Do ,. Just a thought , I am going to do this myself very soon . Thanks for the video KG5RKX
Nice job! And good to show side by side with some of those nay-saying posts we see about our hobby. You are a light on construction and experimenting. Here are a few: Make an antenna, Make.a stealth antenna, Make a loop antenna and try it indoors,, Measurre all your antennas with an inexpensive device, Design your QSL card - paper and digital versions, Go for DXCC, Sign up for contact record keeping sites, Write up an article for a ham magazine or newsletter, ... The mind boggles! So any. Optioning, so little time!!.... Cllean your basement, Appease the XYL Is there time for these? George W9ZSJ (Age 80)
GREAT job!! I'm going to "borrow" your presentation and give it to my club members. Thanks again for getting us to think...and use our ham radios especially during this COVID crisis.
I thought U was the only one that would sit around thinking of what to load up as a antenna. I used to live in a apartment on the second floor and had no way to put up a antenna. I ran a wire to the rain gutter down pipe and ran thru my manual tuner. Worked great got a lot of surprised hams when reporting my antenna as rain gutter. Kj4ZIW
Fo roger D thar. That's CB lingo. Not appropriate for Ham radio. Where is Milton, GA? I used to live in Jonesboro, GA and before that in McDonough, GA. After looking at all the comments I see that you never answer any of them so I'm wasting my time. Not every new Ham has an APRS radio or even have a digital radio.
You can build a radio telescope with a cheap sdr receiver. H line which is at 1420 mhz can easily be detected using a high gain antenna like a parabolic dish and a LNA
Whent to Panama city beach fl a few weeks ago with my sanner unindin sport cat bear cat twin turbo but could pick up a little bit of stions the heracane mickel did a lot of famage 5 gs. Wifi and i might have a pic of a heracane with my cellphone in 20018
I am as of yet unsure if it will happen this year with COVID and all, and if it does, what it will look like, but I would submit to the list: Skywarn Recognition Day event during (usually) the first weekend in December. Another EMCOMM style special event held at National Weather Service offices across the country. The local office where I am has had the local HAMs come up and operate with the equipment at the office for periods over the duration of the event.
So, I'm watching this in October, 2020 and chuckling about some of the suggestions in a Pandemic World. However, many of these things which initially seem undoable (go to a hamfest, do Field Day) were done - that is the genius and flexibility of our hobby. Really a great list - thanks for the video!
Are there any ham radio operators in Moscow Idaho? I have the book to study. But I would like to get some tutor help. Two get my GM radio license. Please
I saw an older video from you about baofeng walkie talkie uv-5r dual band two way radio, I like to buy one but I am new in this hobby I found them at Banggood but all look different but the have the name baofeng walkie talkie uv-5r dual band two way radio ,I found one that looks similar to yours , but I think yours is older but better and can do more I think , what to look at ? Specific,I am from the Netherlands Amsterdam 👍
I passed the tech but only got 1/2 right on the general (didn’t study general at all). At least I know kind of what to expect when I go back for my general!
I just got an FT70D in anticipation of getting my ticket. I’ll be also looking into getting the new openspot 3. The FT70D is a great value for a Fusion HT and I love fiddling with it so far even though I cannot TX yet.

I have my eye on a big metal roof in a park. It’s still on my to do list.
@@HamRadioInAction I heard of ham loading up a steel bridge. I guess would have to find a bridge that is running North/South I guess.

Ver important question... Can it win me games in Rocket League?
It may help you, but I’m a lost cause at RL.
Check out AmRRON. Great people, lots of activity, exceptional tutorials on things ham radio related,
interesting, thanks for sharing.
Well done. I knew there was a ton of stuff, but never made a list. There's a little for everyone in ham radio. =)

is there anyone other than ARRL to test through?
Laurel VEC, a local ham radio club, at a hamfest...
‚be nice‘ - somehow a shame to habe that to mention that but, yes, definitely necessary.
Great list of ideas. I will definetly add this to our club site
I Just subscribe.... one done, 49 letf!!

All the 5r's are basically the same internals.
Help a newbie find and Elmer!
You forgot one that is start a Ham Radio RUclips channel.
Yes! Good add.
I have a ministry. Can I take my Rabbi's 30 min lecture and broadcast it over ham?
In the US broadcasting is not allowed on ham bands.
Brilliant
Great videos! Apparently, the computer platform for ham software is PC. Would a Inspiron Chromebook do the job?
Chromebooks don't use a full version of Windows, so NO that would not do the job.
Was that an IC-7300 in the back ?
Yes, good eye.

How can I get in touch with you
2020 will be the DMR year for me :D

Going for my test on Feb 22nd! Is it true you can test for Technician and General at the same time/same day?
yes, you can test all 3.
And only one 15$ fee if you take one or multiple exams in the same session
I passed the tech but only got 1/2 right on the general (didn’t study general at all). At least I know kind of what to expect when I go back for my general!

Do you live in Ohio?
Looking to try out a few different hotspots for digital use. Mainly DMR and Fusion.
I have an Openspot 1, I like it for DMR and Dstar. I don’t have a system fusion radio yet.
@@HamRadioInAction Looking at getting an Openspot. I have a few DMR's and one Fusion radio (FT3D). Looking forward to the next video. KN4YQP 73's.

Is there a age limit to get your license?
In the US, there is not, just have to pass the test.
when i got my tech the youngest ham in u.s.a. was 5 yo
