As an American, I always wondered what mince was. I see that it's what we call ground beef. The last dish, mince & tatties, is what we call hamburger gravy, usually served over mashed potatoes with a side of corn or green beans. It just shows how similar our meals can be.
I am in Canada, the home of poutine, which is fries, gravy and squeaky cheese curds. I’m the last one that gets to say anything about serving pasta with fries and baked beans. Though North American baked beans have a lot more molasses in them. Oh and the amount of gravy was spot on!! But I am one of those people that likes a little bit of food with my gravy. And parents …. earmuffs… Kids? If it’s a vegetable, you really really really hate and you cover it and gravy it taste a lot better. 😁
I'm a little late to the party this week. I am going to search at my Aldi (U.S.) to see if they have those Chicken Kiev! Such a delicious quick dinner, but yknow the U.S. Aldi mostly doesn't have the same products. I am, however, roasting some "balls of doom" tonight to go with my char-grilled steak (it's finally grilling-weather in Arizona 👍👍👍). Thanks for another great week, Cheryl!
Your mashed tatties always look so amazingly smooth and creamy Cheryl. It always makes me want some myself. Some lovely tasty, sensible dishes again this week, and never mind what it is you are choosing to eat. We should be able to eat what we want to eat without judgement, and lots of pasta or not, your meals always include vegetables and protein, so enjoy is all I can say!

Monday i had Waitrose haddock fish fingers in batter with some chips and some baby beetroot in sweet pickle, Tuesday and Wedensday i had home made steak and sausage pie, with creamed mash potatoes and a couple of roast potatoes and some brussel sprouts, thursday i had 3 lamb chops with some chips and more pickled baby beetroot, friday i had a sausage and bacon omelette with some chips and baby beetroot again, saturday i had a chicken leg and a thigh, with creamed mash potatoes, bread sauce and a few brussel sprouts, today i had some slow cooked belly pork (the last half hour i put it in the oven at high heat), with mashed cream potatoes, roast potatoes, bread sauce and sautéed baby carrots in butter and a half of teaspoon of caster sugar
@@WhatsForTea Waitrose fish fingers are the best, beautiful fresh haddock frozen, with a thin layer of crispy batter i cook mine in the oven , and my chips in my Ninja airfryer/grill/oven and i buy baxters baby beetroot in sweet vinegar .... i love beetroot, waitrose does home deliveries to Ayrshire now, 2 or 3 fish fingers are more than enough, they are long and narrow fish fingers, they come in a pack of six

When ranchers drove their cattle to market, they sent along a chuck wagon + cook. Beans were a staple food. COWBOY beans includes anything the cook had to hand, usually leftovers. I read that leftover coffee also went in the bean pot. Try em! 💜💜💜

1st dish: a horrified hispanic has entered the chat! Lol I made beef enchiladas yesterday, Saturday! If you come to Texas, "Mexican" food (we call it Tex-Mex) will NEVER be served with broccoli. It's always with pinto beans and Mexican rice ❤ BUT, if you'd ever find a Scottish restaurant here, you'd probably giggle at our attempts! Lol

I finally got around to making your cauliflower cheese and it was delicious. I have made it twice in the last month much to my husbands horror since he doesn't really care for cauliflower much but I just love it. I'm going to try the sauce with broccoli this week as well for a change.

I like the new format, you’re right, it flows better. My gran used to have clear pyrex dishes, not for lasagne but for macaroni cheese. Hot mac n cheese, the grate some more cheese on top and under the grill until it bubbled, that cheese was the best bit of course! Lunch when I was still at primary school. Macaroni, chips and cheese was always the best day at school dinners when i was at the high school. Probably followed by pink custard, what was that all about? Lol
Do you ever "fry" the corn--melt butter in a frying pan [skillet] toss in drained, canned corn, add pepper and sort of fry it--sort of. It tastes a lot like popped corn!

We're getting ready for Thanksgiving on Thursday...took the turkey out of the freezer this morning and put it in the fridge to start thawing...
