In my experience Imrik's campaign is super rng based in terms of difficulty. Dealing with Eshin alone is hard by itself but totally doable, being sandwiched between Eshin and another belligerent faction makes it practically impossible. In my first attempt, Eshin declared war on like turn 9, 2 turns after Clan Rictus Nest declared war, and Grimgor decided to join the party a few turns later. Pretty much an impossibility to win at that stage even though I hadn't lost any field battles. In a later attempt at the same difficulty, Clan Rictus Nest declared war against Grimgor and Eshin only declared war at turn 15. Grimgor destroyed Rictus and basically made no attempt to fight me until I declared war on him many turns later, after I had eliminated Eshin, Hag Greif and Last Defenders. Much more doable run.
My first run with Imrik I wanted to get eshin out of the way quickly, declared war on them, went well until their 3 full stacks warped into view, I knew I was in for a hellhole.
I had to start campaign like 15 times before I got favorable RNG that didn't result me being at war with 5 factions before turn 10. And I went on to finish that campaign ( very hard diff ). So you are totally correct.
I've had some success by not completely killing Clan Helhein - leaving them with the Mount Greyhag settlement. It gives you a buffer, after you make peace, and you can't hold that single settlement anyway.
In my first Imrik playthrough I managed to destroy Eshin and everything went more or less well. Then the dwarfes declared war to me and the Empire and Bretonia joined. I got ordertided while playing as high elves.

A few things that worked for me for Golden Order on L/VH: - Raze Karak Hirn- it isn't a good settlement and will keep revolting. You can farm revolts at Pfeildorf. - Take Wissenland early on! Gives you access to Stirland early on and is a much better provice than Solland. - Found imperial authority easy to manage after this initial hit- just keep reconquering Stirland and Averland provinces and give them back. - Focus on confederating Reikland asap. Wissenlad plus Reikland provide you with a solid base to build from.
On Normal I found myself tresspassing into Wissenland so they would attack me faster. Can't lose IA from declaring war if they started it. Though on higher difficulties by the time you'd get Helstorms from Nuln Manny would probably own half the Empire.
Wanna play Supreme Patriarch? Start as Reikland and confederate him. This post provided for you by Supreme Office of Franz in Altdorf. Long live the emperor!
Skarsnik *was* the hardest prior to the last DLC cycle when the Greenskin update came, but he's nowhere near the top anymore. Greenskins in general are so much stronger now so it's not really an issue anymore. Imrik took that spot over as the early game nightmare campaign in the same patch too
Yeah i Play on very hard right now as Imrik. I have defeted Eshin, Moulder and Malus. But dunno what now. Grimgor Has anihilate Karaz A Karak and i Dont have any Chances with nim xD Hes fcing too strong.
@@bogdanleshenko7149 Yeah this is my plan. After last DlC Grimgor is annoying. They should nerf Orc confederations. Give it some penalty or timer. Im at ~70 turn and he is nr. 1 strenght and 31 set. Im trying to menage war with VC and Grim.
@@iNNoitora Once you consolidate 3-5 provinces as imrik you can declare war on grimgor successfully. By turn 80+ he is probably fighting all the way up to reikland so he is too far away to counter a surprise attack on black crag. If mors is alive (which it should) they are also at war with him and can be quite helpful. You can secure black crag, karak azul and karak azgal if mors is fighting there too, fast. From there your expansion slows down a bit but greenskins are dealt a serious blow. Beware of tunnel attacks from mt gunbad and you are set.
Always happy to see another top 5 vid -- honestly I like these more than most SYDBs. Really surprised to not see Cult of Sotek anywhere here. Looking forward to that imrik guide.

Legend, that was one of, if not the best-edited short videos of yours that I've ever seen. Been subscribed for about 2 years now. Did Mrs. Legend have a hand in it? Thanks for the laughs!
Good list. Imrik on Legendary truly deserves that spot. Was a real nightmare for me. Eshin declared war by turn 8, and then a few turns later Grimgor joined the war. And to make it worse, Grimgor wasn't even at war with the Dwarves, so I was pincered between two superpowers (Grimgor ranked #1), with no other major power fighting them. Luckily though I managed to get the Dwarves to join the war against Grimgor not too long after Grimgor joined the war against me, after sending an agent to discover them. That said, haven't tried either Arkhan or Gelt. Now I feel obligated to do so. Loved the ending by the way. Thanks Legend,
Shoutout to Malagor who is stuck in a fully vampire corrupted province. Him being a Beastmen LL combined with initial attrition makes for a difficult position as well
a really hard starting position has Tullaris Dreadbringer with the scourge of khaine, which is playable with the Mixu's Legendary Lords 2 mod. Being the only dark elve on the high elve island but with access to the sword of khaine is a challenge i'd love to see by legend!
Thoughts on Arkhan's Start(I'm sure Legend knows all this but maybe someone else will benefit from it) Abandoning Arkhan's initial start and heading to Nagashizzar immediately makes his campaign much easier. Migrating over there on forced march is fairly safe. Once you get there you can settle Desolation of Nagash for free assuming you've lost all your settlements. Then bring up Nagashizzar to teir 3 with a necrotect rite that spawns on your faction leader(make sure to choose the necrotect as the reward from the dilema), manage public order with commandment + buildings, then go beat up the weakest faction nearby(it's the orcs to the west). Much later in the campaign(turn 60-70) Once you get teir 5 you can come down from the mountains with legions of hexwraiths and take on the world... But if you do stick around, you can offer to break your non aggression pact with the local beastmen to get a peace treaty with the dwarves and that seem to help. Early Casket is definitely the way to go :D
Yeah I really get the cult of pleasure. The high-elves are an absolute menace, especially the ambush-guy. I played her before the DE/HE update and it was really hard to deal with full stacks of Lothern Seaguard with shields ambushing you with what feels like 120% success-chance.
I'll have to try Gelt again some time soon then. I didn't realize the difficulty of his start position was buffed so much. Probably been a year since I've played as him. Looking forward to the Imrik 20 turn guide. Thanks!
It used to be Belegar for me as the hardest, but at some point a dude on reddit made a guide for Thorin Oakenshield rush, taking K8P in just 14 turns. It works to this day for about 80-90% of runs. The problem is more that once you take it The greenskins will come at you so hard that you will have to fight for every inch of progess and clan eshin/mors will start to get "interested" in your settlements.
I played Solland recently and aside some average challenges on the first 30 turns, I didn't found to be THAT difficult, once I confederated Reikland around turn 40 it was a breeze. I guess it also has to do with luck sometimes, on my campaign the vampires didn't roll over the electors like you said. I also fought Vlad very early so I could put a break on him, for example Averland wasn't destroyed on my playthrough. Legendary btw.
I played a Blessed Dread campaign recently. I did all right, able to conquer most of Lustria and finally met up with Morathi closer to Ulthuan. I wanted to confederate her rather than kill her, so I was throwing money at her so much I was basically the world's biggest simp.
Currently on Gelt's campaign and got through the initial challenge (currently on turn 250-ish, so I'm breezing through now). I've just watched this now, and didn't really realize just how difficult Gelt's position was if I'd not already had a handle on initial strategy. My turn-one solution was to immediately make non-aggression pacts. Just spamming non-aggression pacts with virtually any faction that would accept (except Black Venom). It made consolidating everything so much easier and I could basically relax as I sat around for 50 turns just playing tall in Solland until I could field the two full stacks of powerful units. Never got declared war on by any of the elector counts, kept my prestige high by continually beating down the Black Venom tribe whenever they'd come through, preventing all counts from civil war, and peacefully confederating everyone by turn 140 or so. The real challenge was dealing with Manfred around turn 35, but continually ambushing armies made it more pliable. ^If you play it like that, on legendary difficulty, I'd have to disagree with this being the number two spot.
Tehenhauin's ME start is a nightmare until you get past the first phase of the prophecy, *but* there is one saving grace which is simply to save up money and then use a Rite of Primeval Glory to bulldoze your way to getting 2 full provinces. It'll hurt your economy a lot but it'll give you the firepower you need to actually break through. Once you're past the first prophecy phase then you're good to go. But yeah if you only try to play with skinks all the way through then it's a pain in the ass, especially considering how many different factions that tend to hold a piece of your surrounding regions so you end up having to get into multiple wars to fully consolidate them
Tehenhauin has a legacy reputation of one of the hardest, but the addition of Kroxigor Ancients and it's easier to acquire sacrifices means you can literally snowball out of control by turn 20-30. We're talking 2, probably 3 armies and you're making a decent profit as Lizardmen.
@@toggle3927 Kroxigor Ancients and Sacred Kroxigors are fire. I used them in a Nakai campagin to kick everyone's ass until Stegadon spam. They will fuck up anyone if they are supported correctly.
@@Frido9090 Hire a Kroxigor Ancient turn 1, Strong>Weapon Master>Disciplined. Personal strength is preferred over army buffs, it's going to be your best or second best unit behind the hunting pack. Keep the vortex up, and probably the armor up 100 percent of the time, they are very useful for the first 20, 30 turns. Between two lords and the vortex you should have little problems with skaven and the rebel coast, remember you can bait bloated corpses to blow up zombies with single entity units. Take sacrifices at every opportunity, you're trying to aim for 2-3k when you unlock the second tier and begin gambling for followers. Javelins are your main unit, you cannot afford to wait for Red Crested Skinks to come online, you need to be fighting and moving before you can recruit them. After the rebellion you just basically beeline towards the vampire coast, the Awakening should be open especially this patch, the AI I've noticed has been doing weird force march pathing around Pox Marsh wasting a ton of movement and time. That's your second province and one that rebels frequently to fuel your follower acquisition, at this point you can easily have buildings cost half and this is where you just start to massively snowball as a faction. I don't remember exact turns but Luthor was 100 percent dead by turn 25. I know Markus wanted to be a pita and was near Xahutec in my playthrough, I think i neutralized him with a nap in return for joining a war of his, Xahutec has to have walls 100 percent though, don't trust him for sure.
20 turn guide would be great! However, besides all those factors, the most difficult part in Imrik's start is the RNG. As said if Clan Rictus declares war on you (either before or after Eshin get involved), then Grimgor likely declares war on you just cause you got 2 other factions on you and Hag Grief can do the same likely. So essential is stay out of line of sight of other factions long as you can. As if Hag Grief doesn't know you, it declares war on tomb kings faction near them. Also, later point dwarves can be a pain to deal with (and more so when order tide starts to build up) but presently with greenskin updates, there is a 50% chance orcs defeat them early, and then when you start to go mountains, orc stacks are lot easier to defeat (albeit they got many stacks) than dwarf stacks and plus side diplomatically get improved with high elves, empire, and bretonnia (and any dwarf factions left). So easier to establish trade. Either way, another difficult part is ofc denial of trade thanks to the absence of a good trade route. The closest one is the dwarf fort at end of the river or Trade Princes settlement taking (or orcish settlement another side). Do not research the ocean empire research until you got captured settlement with docks. Plus side, if RNG screws you over in start, it happens in the first 20 turns. After the start you got lots more options (albeit fewer gold thanks no trade). Best take dark elves and then expand mountains while trade to tomb kings and deal either orcs or dwarves next.

So wrong yet so right!
@@mrs.legend way to go on the editing! Just keeps getting better and better
we must sub to her
Pfeildorf ("Arrow village") is spoken Pf-eye-ldorf.
Yes, german is weird for english speakers.
Alternatively, "Filedorf".
@@HiddenEvilStudios Just with a P in front, yes, that would work as well.
Phiel-dorf sounds better tho.
But how do I pronounce "pf"? :(
@@TheMightofDab Like an F really
A few things that worked for me for Golden Order on L/VH:
- Raze Karak Hirn- it isn't a good settlement and will keep revolting.
@@Saphels You also get Athel Loren as yellow rather than red territory.
Karak him is not that bad because its mostly hidden from vampire corruption. That was the only settelement without fucking vampire rebels
Hand down this is the best "top5" viceo you've done so far, Legend!
These videos just keep getting better and better
Belegar and Imrik: we will survive.
Skavens and Greenskins: good (like) luck then.
Imrik and the Goblin moon guy are the hardest imo
@@thedeviousgreek1540 i've conquered Lahmia and make peace treaty with Lizardmen. I want push Grim from south and Karak Azul.
Great video. All the fun edits and dunking on Throgg. I give it a 10/10
The edition was on point on this video, very funny too!
Great work with this one @LegendofTotalWar that last wink to your Imrik campaign. Gold!
You guys make a great team. These videos have just gotten better with time. Great work. Both you and Mrs Legend
Legend, i hereby demand that you continue this series.
Love your top 5 videos. Hopefully you can do more of these in future.
entertaining and informative. Ty Legend! keep up the great work!
Nice cinematic editing at the end there. I love some roasted skaven decorated with arrows.
Always happy to see another top 5 vid -- honestly I like these more than most SYDBs. Really surprised to not see Cult of Sotek anywhere here. Looking forward to that imrik guide.
Great to see you still active mate
Excellent video. Mrs. Legend appears to be having fun with the editing. I like it.
7:58 scared the shit out of me.
Loved this whole tube especially the gratutis throgg dis and imrik plug.
Top lols during a zoomed out day.
You totally had me with Throgg. Having watched you for a little while now, always enjoying these and your battle videos, I thought stopping with that comment matched your fun personality. I’m glad you showed your true #1, but I did get a good laugh when you started to quit. I don’t know why you don’t like that character (or maybe it’s the faction), but I have heard you speak of it previously. Thanks for the insightful videos.
I -LOVE- your "top X" videos! I really hope you make more!
Legend, that was one of, if not the best-edited short videos of yours that I've ever seen. Been subscribed for about 2 years now. Did Mrs. Legend have a hand in it? Thanks for the laughs!
Great vid. Love the edits and jokes. Plug at the end is great too 👍
Thanks Legend,
Loving the IT Crowd fire 🔥 cameo. How do you put out the fire, on the fire extinguisher.
You REALLY stepped up your editing dude. Keep this up.
Shoutout to Malagor who is stuck in a fully vampire corrupted province. Him being a Beastmen LL combined with initial attrition makes for a difficult position as well
Nice work again Legend and Co, looking forward to tomorrows episode!
a really hard starting position has Tullaris Dreadbringer with the scourge of khaine, which is playable with the Mixu's Legendary Lords 2 mod. Being the only dark elve on the high elve island but with access to the sword of khaine is a challenge i'd love to see by legend!
Thoughts on Arkhan's Start(I'm sure Legend knows all this but maybe someone else will benefit from it)
Abandoning Arkhan's initial start and heading to Nagashizzar immediately makes his campaign much easier.
Good edits on this one, Legend team! The odd meme here n there is really appreciated and gets a good chuckle/laugh every time!
Yeah I really get the cult of pleasure. The high-elves are an absolute menace, especially the ambush-guy. I played her before the DE/HE update and it was really hard to deal with full stacks of Lothern Seaguard with shields ambushing you with what feels like 120% success-chance.
Awesome. Cracked up between 1 and 2, thanks.
Loving the little bits of editing.
Good video Legend, surprised no honorable mention for Skarsnik
I approve of the slight change in video style and by that I mean how its less dry with use of say Manfred the Tank engine for example
The idea of imrik just saying fuck it and going back home is extremely funny to me
I managed to “pack up and leave” with angrund in his early release time. Wasn’t on legendary difficulty but also one of my proudest moments
I'll have to try Gelt again some time soon then. I didn't realize the difficulty of his start position was buffed so much. Probably been a year since I've played as him. Looking forward to the Imrik 20 turn guide. Thanks!

The gags were absolutely on point this video.
Imrik is my most played faction. I did find it difficult but because that's all I played for so long I don't think it's too hard any more.
The turn guide of the decade coming at ya
Nice change of pace. TY LOTW.
that was awsome! love that bit at the end!
12:05 - had a mini heart attack seeing this army
Love these top 5 vids! Thanks again and can't wait for tommorow...
You summed up my Balthasar Gelt campaign perfectly! I don't feel so bad for almost losing the empire lol.
Thanks for this video and the editing, very good and so funny. Great jobs
I think archons black mummified hearts got a shock when the entrant group came from Lyonesse w .Repanse de Lyonesse -tnx for the up coming guide.
It used to be Belegar for me as the hardest, but at some point a dude on reddit made a guide for Thorin Oakenshield rush, taking K8P in just 14 turns. It works to this day for about 80-90% of runs. The problem is more that once you take it The greenskins will come at you so hard that you will have to fight for every inch of progess and clan eshin/mors will start to get "interested" in your settlements.
love the top Total War: Warhammer series, keep it up :)
Legend himself is just a master at making an enjoyable video without fail.
Hell yes I love the top 5’s! Do another lord ranking next!
I played a Blessed Dread campaign recently. I did all right, able to conquer most of Lustria and finally met up with Morathi closer to Ulthuan. I wanted to confederate her rather than kill her, so I was throwing money at her so much I was basically the world's biggest simp.
I know i'm late, but, It's never wrong to simp for Momrathy.
@@hisokamorow6709 I remember I basically ended up funding her entire campaign of Ulthuan.
Rakarth would totally make into this list, especially on Vortex.
I completely agree with the list
But they are fun campaigns
Gelt, morathi and imrik are really fun to challenge
Dude excellent vid!! Really enjoyed this one
great production value legend
Damn i missed these.
Keep them coming!
MORTALS! 7:57
i like how legend stops talk, when manfred von carstein says mortals! :D
Skarsnik and Tehe- Tinehinw- Taijain- Lizard Moses. Also Throgg is a legit hard start.
I always thought that Tehenhauin had a really rough start in ME, but I’m not sure it’s harder than any of the ones you mentioned here.
@@toggle3927 Teach me how to snowball with Lizard Jesus, please. I always get stomped by either VC or random markus bullshitery
I just finished a campaign and couldn't decide who to play as next when this video came out. Arkhan it is then.
