no they didn't. both sides thought that they would end the war with their next offensive. every time a major offensive was launched they thought they would end the war. and the generals continued to believe that the next big push would end the war all the way to 1918. the next one will do it for sure. they were arrogant and reckless, and millions died because of this.

In theory, there may have been an encounter between pilots from both sides, but Manfred von Richthofen was not yet the infamous Red Baron. In fact, he was in the cavalry at the time of the Christmas Truce.
The war was over and the Baron dead by December 1918. In theory the Baron could have spared another pilots life and even have forced him to land on his side of the lines in December 1917. BTW, it wouldn’t have surprised me if there had been an Allied airman with a nickname of “Snoopy” back in the day. We could retcon that Snoopy may even have been a reincarnation of that airman.

The voice of the Red Baron (saying "merry Christmas. my friend") was performed by Charles Fuller, a voice over talent in the Chicago area. He has several gold records on his office wall from his work on the Snoopy songs with the Royal Guardsmen. He was a real gentleman to work with.

I first ever heard of it when i was either 5 or 6. I remember the school teacher finding it and hearing them say the name, and i also remembered hearing the lyrics 'those christmas bells', but then i long forgot about this song. But now after hearing it much more i'm remembering easily
My school float at the New Plymouth Christmas parade played thus songs and we won the best looking float in New Plymouth and won the whole thing
